Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) would prefer for Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) to remain her reelection opponent.
"Elections are sacred, there was an election, so I think the voters of Missouri should be respected [and] not have some big wig fancy people from Washington come in here and threaten him that he's got to drop out," McCaskill said, according to St. Louis television station KTVS.
Akin was the Republican primary contender that McCaskill and the Democrats were hoping for, prior to his controversial statements on rape that have prompted GOP calls for him to quit. That his remarks might have injured his candidacy makes him all the more attractive to the Democrats. McCaskill, however, did not emphasize the political calculations in her remarks to the TV station.
She said it would be a "radical" event for Akin to drop out and the state GOP to pick another candidate.

Her PAC supported Akin with ads during the primary...so I am shocked shocked I tell you that she wants him to stay in.....
Playing him like a fiddle. The very definition of a useful idiot.
Sad that this moron cost us a seat and quite possibly the Senate.
She will rue the day she wished for this.
And Akin says he is staying in. Wow. A Republican holding himself above his country and his party. Why don’t Republicans have the discipline that Democrats have? McCaskill will certainly win that previously winnable seat. Hope we can still repeal Obamacare. THANKS SO MUCH, Todd Akin, narcissist.
McCaskill is this guy’s biggest defender..if that isn’t the ultimate RED FLAG I don’t know what is
This Just In.....The Texas Rangers want to play the Houston Astros in the World Series.
Wonder what the all-time largest margin of victory is in a Missouri Senate race?
McCaskill is about to smash it.
Todd Akin says he will remain in the race. I am shocked. Clearly he suffers from elephantitus of the ego. According to The Politico, Paul Ryan called Akin and tried to get him to drop out. Maybe Akin thinks that Claire McCaskill is so unpopular that voters will support him anyway. Perhaps he so dislikes primary opponent John Brunner that he’ll risk reelecting McCaskill to keep Brunner out. Admittedly, Brunner is not a great candidate, but he wouldn’t commit a blunder on this scale.
There is hope. Akin has the option of dropping out by September 25, provided that a state judge allows it and he pays to have his name removed from the ballot. You can bet that if it happens, McCaskill and the ‘Rat Party will fight like mad to keep him on the ballot. For the time being, we’re shafted.
When your Democrat opponent is your biggest supporter and financier.....hate to break it to you but your campaign ain’t doing too well.
This doesn’t affect me. I don’t live in Missouri.
“Sad that this moron cost us a seat and quite possibly the Senate.”
not to mention the state moving from tossup to probable Obama
John Roberts will be pleased to know he has been replaced as the top spot on my list of most hated Republicans.
do you live in America?
If Harry Reid is still Majority Leader of the Senate in 2013 because of Todd Akin, you may have a different point of view.
Jack the Ripper was not available to run against McCaskill so she picked the next best thing running in the Republican primary to support with 1.5 million in ad buys pushing his candidacy.
“She will rue the day she wished for this.”
Yes..... when she grows weary of being a US Senator years down the road.
