Palin Suggests Third Party Candidate To Stop Akin In Missouri
Real Clear Politics ^ | August 21, 2012 | Ian Schwartz

"Bless his heart, I don't want to pile on Todd Akin, because in some respects I understand what he's trying to say here, and standing on principle, that he doesn't want to be perceived as a quitter. But you got to know when to hold them and know when to fold them," fmr. Gov. Sarah Palin said on FOX News today.

If Steelman can’t run as third party, find someone else and run them. We cannot allow Akin, or anyone else, to run after they have proven themselves not worthy. I don’t care if
Akin is a Republican and I do not care that he is pro-life. Time we stop paying lip service to our civic responsibilities for selfish reasons.

Palin wasn’t prepared for the television appearance. She looked stupid. I know the MO election law better than she did.

We need to start a petition to yank Huckabee from speaking next week at the RNC. It is ridiculous that he is being offered a prime time slot on Monday night. This cannot stand.

Akin is the living example of a “damned fool”. When I was in high school there was this one kid everyone thought a fool because of his idiotic boisterous personality. A fool because he could never see himself the way everyone else did, and he couldn’t tone his personality down... Akin is this same kind of fool, he cannot see himself, only his beliefs and that he is the only one that can advance them. I’m conservative, but when I look at that guy, I see that kid in high school, and it makes me want to gag... but if he stays in, I’ll vote for him over McCaskill.

If Akin had stepped down prior to 5PM deadline yesterday, anyone could have been appointed to run. But Primary candidates cannot be written in nor run third Party.

Dr. Willke has been a solid leader of the Pro Life movement for many years. His contributions have been invaluable.

That being said, he has a disturbing tendency to say things which make it very difficult for us to try and convince people on the fence over to our side. When hundreds of thousands of babies are being murdered every year, we cannot get hung-up in the minutia of every far out “what if” scenario.

S. Palin should have known this. Greta should have asked or stated this. Letting it ride misled thousands...

She sure should have but stoking the flames is what this appearance was all about.

“If Akin had stepped down prior to 5PM deadline yesterday, anyone could have been appointed to run.”

Ok, then I’m back to being pissed off. Why were Brunner and Steelman not included in the GOP’s list of possible appointees? Not that it matters now.

Stupid question, but why didn’t the MO republican party just boot him out of the party prior to 5 PM yesterday?

Thanks for reality check. His one comment aside, Akin doesn't seem like an idiot (engineer, IBM manager). He needs to turn his handicap into a plus by aggressively showing who he is.

He should also stay positive towards the Party, even those who have urged him to step aside or are withdrawing funding. The burden is on him.

Brunner and Steelman probably were included in the list of possible appointees. But Akin would have had to step down before one would have been announced. No idea who it would have been had he done so.

Little matters now. Akin is the candidate. I do not look for him to pull the pin before the Sept. 25 deadline either. He ain't goin'...So we Missouri voters must make the best of it and vote for him. The alternative is 6 more years of Mother McCaskill. Tax hikes. Gun bans. Obi-care. List of depravities we face will be endless...

No idea if RNC will restore the $5 million they had allotted his campaign. But he ended the Primary (Aug.7) with less than $500K. Not much in terms of running for US Senate seat...

I didn't watch the video, but I did read the transcript, and it seems like you are being a tad harsh. If you look at what Sarah said, she did not say they should run Steelman specifically, she said, "The way we do that is to have someone like Sarah Steelman be able to run, even if it's as a third-party candidate, to be able to run and take this back."

So she may understand MO election law better than you think, and just wants to get someone with similar qualities to the person she endorsed, not just another GOP-e hack...

Akin was the elected candidate. Little matters whether state party boots him or not. RNC did pull funding. And that really, really matters...

She should have been much clearer. Greta as well. But it little matters now. Akin is the candidate. Write-ins do not fair well in Missouri. Time for all to suck it up. The alternative is Ma McCaskill getting 6 more years. And no sane person wants THAT!

Just heard comment on local radio..."Sarah Palin still pushing her girl Sarah Steelman."

This election and subsequent Akin disaster has been one giant cluster f.

Why were Brunner and Steelman not included in the GOP’s list of possible appointees? Not that it matters now.

Good question.

None of the three candidates running were acceptable to the left side or Danforth wing of the party because of their independence: Steelman because she is not a team player, Brunner because he had his own money and didn't need outside funding, and Akin because he is too conservative.

Early on the Danforth wing of the party tried to get the three to step aside in favor of Tom Schweich. They still haven't given up as they want a Senator beholden to them rather than the people of Missouri, and Schweich is their man.
