John Yurkovic summed up the sentence in one word: "Ridiculous."
The former New Jersey cop was stunned when he learned a former banker who stole his identity, rented a mailbox in his name in Dunmore and had $50,000 in gold coins fraudulently paid for through his checking account was sentenced to three years probation.
"If a kid snatches a purse from a little old lady on the corner, the judge is going to put him in jail," said Yurkovic, when contacted by phone after Carlos Suarez was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Edwin M. Kosik in federal court in Scranton on Wednesday.
"I'm still having problems with my credit," said Yurkovic, 59, of Albrightsville.
Suarez, formerly of East Stroudsburg, was an employee at the former Wachovia branch in Mount Pocono when he stole Yurkovic's personal information.
...
U.S. Attorney Robert O'Hara did not object to probation, characterizing the crime as "stupidity" driven by "financial desperation."
Suarez pleaded guilty in February to one count of mail fraud.
While his personal opinion of Suarez is that of a man with a "potential for being a con artist," Kosik said he had to look at the case objectively and consider sentencing guidelines.
Kosik also sentenced Suarez to serve eight months home confinement.
His victim was not satisfied.
"With all the problems we have with identity theft, what kind of message are we sending?" Yurkovic said.

Welcome to the Anarchic States of America!
Looks like Yurkovic will need to handle this himself.
What goes around, comes around.
It was handled.
The banker did nothing wrong here he was just using a ‘initovative investment technique’ which is the way the free market works, beside bankers have immunity and are not subject to jail time. Someone will be along shortly to explain how it works.
Too many don’t understand just how damaging identity theft really is for victims. They can spend thousands of dollars over a period of years trying to clean up credit, criminal and traffic records. Even then they never know if they’ve caught everything. These type criminals do a lot of immediate damage. To me it’s a lot more serious than drug posession and should be treated accordingly.
The judge needs to be impeached.
The Prosecuting attorney needs to be fired.
As far as identity theft goes, I consider it as egregious as taking another’s life. They should go to prison for life, or if the effect of the theft was especially grievous, forfeit their life.
PA Ping!

Satisfactorily?
Banker, Judge, federal prosecutor, lawyer —> probation, no jail —> professional courtesy as they are members of related crooked professions.
Oh wait. I meant to reply to post #6.
He stole less money yet he got a stiffer sentence than Corizine. The victim should be happy./s
Yeah, but bankers (banksters) are not subject to the same rule of law as we common people are. This will be overturned.
it’s just like the nypd cop who was paying child support for a child who wasn’t his. A DNA test was performed, it was determined that he wasn’t the father, and the judge still ordered him to pay child support. And the mother knew that the child wasn’t his. Liberals in the criminal justice system are ruining America, crime does pay.
