Huckabee digs in behind Akin
Politico ^ | // | Alexander Burns

Todd Akin hasn't had many high-profile supporters with him in the trenches this week, but Mike Huckabee became an important and emphatic exception Thursday afternoon, sending a message to his own supporters accusing Republican elites of trying to drum a good man out of a winnable Senate race. Here's what Huckabee said in an email to his list this afternoon:

Party’s leaders have for reasons that aren't rational, left [Akin] behind on the political battlefield, wounded and bleeding, a casualty of his self-inflicted, but not intentional wound.

In the end run, if the Republican Party elite would keep their mouth shut, those who would have supported AKin anyway, will end up at the polls voting for him. He could still win.

should have kept their mouth shut until it was determined if Akin was positively in or out. And that should have been worked out privately with him

If you really believe that, why don't you become a Democrat ? If you want a party to be silent and cower in fear at the left, you can get that with the Democrats. You can believe that the right thing to do is shut up and not defend conservative values, but don't bash people who will stand up for what is right.Akin can enjoy his $2 million dollar blood money at home.

Men are endowed by their creator with life. They are not given that right and privilege by their human fathers, but by their Heavenly Father. God is the Creator, not man. Children are conceived by the grace of God. They are formed in the womb by the hand of God. The children conceived in rape are still God's creation. It will always be a sin to abort them. They are not trash. They had no hand in their own creation and no hand should be allowed to destroy them.

Moses wrote down that God created male and female. Together they would be as one. We are told that the flesh body of the Adam was not living until the breath of life which means soul was breathed into his nostrils. And then the first recorded surgery took place wherein a curve was removed to form the woman.

We can know when God places the soul/spirit in the womb is at the conception, by what Luke describes took place with Mary. The soul/spirit is what is alive before conception and continues to live after these flesh bodies return to dust.

You are right, Huckabee is a low-life. He was lionized by the left, because he was going to destroy conservative radio. Then he used faked callers to attack the right. I can’t wait until that second-rate Clinton backstabber is forgotten.

So has your position on this thread evolved, or are you still firmly in the Anti-Akin camp?

Do you or do you not subscribe to the doctrine that ALL THINGS work together for good, including political faux paus by sinners saved by Grace?

My political position has evolved somewhat as a result of this controversy. I am more firmly in the "no exceptions" camp of the pro-life movement than I ever was before. I praise God for that.

Have you ever heard the song by Red Rider with the lyric: “I have wandered... through the desert... found the ocean... not the rain” ? That lyric would seem to have multiple applications. FWIW, your anaylsis of MO politics is spot on, so far as I can see. Who the heck do some of our Freepers think elected names like Carnahan, Gephardt, and Jay Nixon? Slightly OT: We are still solidly in D4. You too?

I had not heard of Red Rider or this song. I did however, go search it out and listened. I am curious to hear your take on the song. Given all the far away places mentioned... The 'rain' part is quite relevant for me personally, I live tooo far from the ocean, but, my lawn is not that far away from being desert like...

I do not like confusion and the last place I ever expected confusion to arise is out of 'pro-lifers' and yet here I am trying to understand what took place this week. I have about decided there is a language barrier. Reality does not seem to be the strong suit. I am not even ticked off at the GOP-e because I have come to expect nothing more from them than demanding my vote so they can compromise with liberalism. WE did not get this far in debt from liberals alone.

Do not forget one of those Carnahans was dead when this state elected him.

What is it with these assumed accusations. I have NEVER been 'anti-Akin'. I want Claire defeated. Akin is anti-Akin. He did not need to create this firestorm, he was sailing on to victory and all this week could have been spent on crazy commie Claire. NOT apologizing for a loose tongue.

What part of reality escapes people. Claire has spent the past year hunting tall grass to hide herself from Obama, and along comes Akin and hands her a mink coat. That is the reality.

Of course if he is on the ballot I will vote for him. But could somebody get his ear and tell him to focus on winning first and stop needlessly inflaming the liberals. Liberals in this state had nothing to vote for until Akin started talking.

So you want Akin to run from his Conservative views and pretend to be a moderate to appease the ignorant masses in Missouri. Don’t tell anyone that you want to end Abortion or reform social security. Don’t tell anyone that you oppose the minimum wage. Don’t tell anyone that you want to deport illegal aliens. Just pretend to be a moderate. Lie about who you are and what you believe and maybe then you can save America.

Good idea.

We have a communication problem. Why did Akin apologize?

I live in the center of this confused mess. Claire was on her way to defeat. Stupid words gave her the opportunity to get free advertising time to call Akin ignorant... Then Akin goes on an apologizing tour... They are still playing his apologizing ads today. While Claire is out with ads beating him over the head over social security, just like liberals always do every election. Where is Akin, analogizing.

And reality escapes of what is literally happening is lost out in the ether waves. And you have the nerve to accuse me of wanting him to pretend to be anything.... He can't talk about anything because he started this mess.

One more petty accusation, totally void of reality.

Well, if the Kos / some libs can’t think on more than one level, that’s not my fault. More likely they are pretty weakly attempting to cover the tracks. (You take them at their word?) Having seen McCaskill in action for many years now, I think it is quite clear she is a skilled politician / tactician.

The ads (against all three Pub candidates) WERE aimed at moderates, to sow the seeds for the upcoming general. But moderates were not the portion of the electorate that would or would not likely put Akin, Brunner, or Steelman over the top. The “anti-Akin” ads had a second effect / purpose, directed at conservatives. My wife and I experienced it, to at least a small degree, and I doubt we are all that different from at least SOME other conservatives who watched those ads. Maybe it “goes by” some people. But I’m sure that’s ok from McCaskill’s standpoint. As you say, the race was close. So, only a small effect was needed. Anyway, to me it’s no conspiracy, it’s a simple form of multiple targets and reverse psychology on the 2nd. No one told me this, it was my own conclusion prior to the election.

Alternately, if you wish, here’s another way to look at it: Given the circumstances, McCaskill’s campaign would be foolish if they did not try to drive votes to what they saw as the candidate they could best run against. How could they accomplish that, without easily being tagged as interfering in the Republican primary?

Of COURSE the statement “Todd Akin is a true conservative, too conservative for Missouri” is not considered a compliment by liberals! But, while being far having a majority “Bible Belt” voting population, perhaps 20% of the MO populace is quite conservative, and a lot of them vote in primaries. That statement about Akin would be considered a positive by them, especially coming from McCaskill. At the same time, I can pretty well guarantee you that at least half of that 20% group would not analyze it further.

Claire McCaskill could tell the “truth” (as she sees it)about Akin and work toward setting up her opponent to be the one she wants to run against in the general, all at the same time. One goal does not preclude the other.

Fast forward to the present: We have the spectacle of Akin running his apology ad, while McCaskill’s ads are dumping on him for opposing student loans. (Her ads are a clear follow up to her earlier ads.) Now, I’m sure as heck not GOP-e, but I’d prefer to see Akin step aside and as part of his price for stepping aside, behind the scenes have some say in the selection of his replacement. That would have the positive effect of blowing up McCaskill’s ad campaign for at least a short while, and derail the MSM somewhat, too. The media at present is having orgasms over the thought of having a hot social topic on the burner instead of the economy. Even our local news stations are making me ill. Jobs numbers? What jobs numbers?

If Akin stays in, he’d better start swinging back, effectively, or he’s toast.

Anyway, thanks for a civil discussion. After tonight I may not be able to post much for a few days. (Work!!!) But I’ll try to check back at some point.

The song “White Hot” is very loosely about a depraved French poet, Arthur Rimbaud, who ended up as a gun runner in Ethiopia, among other things. The “picture” it draws is quite dramatic, and I’ve always liked music that does that. At the time I came across it, I did a lot of work at clubs (bars) and such where sex was easy to find had that been all I wanted. But it wasn’t, and I was viewed by most as “different” (which I was), probably as quite the geek - you get the picture. So it got pretty lonely, even though all this “stuff” was going on around me every night. Before that was an even “dryer” time (long story I won’t go in to here). Anyway, it was quite a few years and describing my life as wandering through the desert and then finding the ocean, not the rain, sort of fit.

These days, I have a wonderful wife & family and all that is past. :-) But one never forgets it.

As for a present interpretation, your talking about not being able to understand some of your fellow pro-lifers hit a chord. Here you are trying to explain the reality of the political situation in MO, and a good number of your fellow FReepers are off in fantasy land, huffing and puffing about courage, and so on. That latter is pretty easy to do on a board where almost everyone is anonymous. It’s a little harder to come up with arguments that will win over some moderates. Without those, and some realistic strategies, we won’t get far. :-(

I wake up each day thinking this is the day that Aiken does the right thing for Missouri and America and drops out.

but NO...this selfish, female orifice(even though he doesn't know how one works), just digs in like the typical politician he is.

I figure Willard loses in November and even if he doesn’t, I suspect that in the end Obamacare will not be repealed. That’s really the bottomline for most conservatives in this election cycle. When Obamacare ends up not getting repealed, it will just be a matter of time before repealing it is removed from the Republican platform, just like getting rid of SS was removed from the platform in the 50s. In the 30s, many Republicans called FDR’s new deal, which included SS as “creeping socialism”. Today, you couldn’t find a single Republican that would even hint of it. I bet even Ron Paul won’t say it in public, although he probably thinks it privately. I’m convinced the ballot box has become a worthless lost cause.

"I am amazed that our fellow FReepers are encouraging people to vote against Akin (and therefore *for* McCaskill). Dumb, dumb, dumb. If Akin loses, it’s because FReepers and others are damning him for being too pro-life and for speaking clumsily about it."

Nobody seems to see the bigger picture in this matter. They've all jumped in like a bunch of frenzied sharks and done nothing but attack.

Whenever you see someone on the gop side with both their feet in their mouth, just remember: they won their primary. Which in my view is about the absolute worst way to select a candidate imaginable. But the gop, like the dems, wants to have the taxpayers subsidize their internal operations. So we have a bunch of people whose attachment to the political party in question amounts to being able to write the name of the party on a form when they register to vote selecting the candidates. Not the people who will actually have some blood sweat and tears invested in getting the candidate elected.

Its changing, though. I was shocked to learn that our Va gop decided against having a primary for next year’s governors race. Its expensive but it results in the selection of better candidates and limits the damage to the candidate that emerges from the selection process.
