Detained Marine veteran now released, per judge’s order

A Hopewell circuit court judge has ordered that a Marine veteran detained over anti-government Facebook posts be released from a psychiatric hospital. CBS 6 News’ Catie Beck said the Judge Allan Sharrett dismissed the case Thursday against Brandon Raub. The judge said the original petition for Raub’s detention contained no facts. In other words, there was no information on why Raub was being held — and the judge deemed this violated his civil liberties. As a result, the judge ruled the government had no grounds to hold Raub. Beck said the judge is in the process of writing an order for Raub’s release. He is has been released from the hospital in Salem, Virginia Thursday afternoon and is headed home to Chesterfield. The decorated U.S. Marine veteran was questioned by FBI agents about his Facebook postings and then hauled away from his Chesterfield County home in handcuffs last Thursday.

Nothing. That’s the point. Obastard and crew want us to know they can lock us up for posting anti-obama posts without evidence. Sure, a judge will spring us, but not after some days, damage to career and rep (many uninformed people will only have read that he was locked up, not that he was released), etc. And that will silence some obastard critics, as intended.

Clearly, I and most Freepers won’t be silenced, but we’re a small community (who probably will be left alone due to the number of aftorney Freepers).

Others imagine there's a carburetor that will give you 100 mpg. Are they nuts, or are they members of Congress?

lol, I think that's POTUS that believes that.

I'm still trying to figure out why he was arrested. I don't see anything "teroristic" about what was presented here.

Did you read some of the stuff this guy was posting?

He was a 9-11 truther who believed there is a secret castle in Colorado where world leaders (including George Bush) get together to rape and murder children.

It didn’t sound like he was joking....

Eminem & D12 recorded a rap song together called 'Get my gun' ~ and as Sean Bell, a local NYC thug just recently out of jail and his buddies, also local thugs were going up the stairs from the lower level of a nasty juke club where they'd been celebrating Bell's coming wedding, they encountered some other folks going to the same club and they had some words.

An undercover cop there heard what he thought was a threat by Bell or his buds to 'cross the street and get my gun' and perceived that this was associated with the altercation.

He followed and called in help.

Within minutes Bell was dead, his buds wounded, 50 rounds had been fired by NYC police, and none of the victims was armed.

"Get my gun" was fairly popular at the time and was probably being played on some sort of electronic device by more than one person in that club ~ in the course of the evening.

So, what really brought the cops into contact with Brandon Raub? Was it his manifesto ~ or something else he may have composed and written, or maybe it was the RAP LYRICS he also posted on his site?

The cop who got the ball rolling in NYC was a recent college graduate who'd been a serious law enforcement student.

These FBI agents are also college graduates ~ probably with graduate degrees ~ and probably quite serious about law enforcement.

By now you'd think the higher ups in every law enforcement body in America would have devised a brief that covered the RAP MUSIC LYRICS problem.

Looks like 6 years later the 'Fibbies' don't have a clue. Wonder about NYC?

One mention of 'rap lyrics' being posted on his site reminded me of Sean Bell's killing in NYC. That started with someone playing an Eminem piece on the radio or a juke box, or singing the song himself, or whatever.

That's just 6 years ago so any one of the more popular music playing devices could have handled the job in a shirt pocket!

You ever take a good look at rap lyrics? Many of them are very violent. Your more serious minded cops probably aren't into that stuff and wouldn't recognize it if was pasted to the inside of their doughnut boxes!

We've been through this in this family with a younger cousin posting EMO song lyrics on a website. Ever read that EMO stuff? Some family members got very excited about them imagining they were original compositions and there was an immediate danger of suicide!!!!!

I try to stay up on this CR*P so I"ll know what it is when I see it. Sean Bell was probably killed by little understood pop culture. This young man was hauled off for 30 days observation most likely for the same reason. There are others who've suffered the same for the same reasons.

Found this comment about his postings, here

.........."many of the "questionable" posts have been lyrics from Limp Bizkit songs and else where."................

Never heard of them...and have no idea if the commenter is correct.

http://www.youtube.com/artist/limp_bizkit ~ right side top right note ~ open it up and read on. Yeah, humorless cop meets Limp Bisket lyrics and somebody’s gonna’ get locked up or shot ~ eventually. This young man is quite lucky he didn’t get hurt by these people.
