Today’s big New York Times/CBS/Quinnipiac poll found some good news for Barack Obama: In Ohio, Wisconsin, and Florida, voters think Obama would do a better job than Mitt Romney handling Medicare by margins of eight to 10 points. Blowback against Paul Ryan?
Well, I’ve got the breakdown of these numbers among seniors, and they are far less encouraging for Obama: In two out of the three states, voters over 65 prefer Romney on Medicare, and in the third, Obama leads, but by a smaller margin. The breakdown sent over by CBS:
* In Florida, 48 percent of seniors say Romney would do a better job on Medicare, versus 44 percent who say that about Obama (the Ryan pick was supposed to be particularly problematic in this state).
* In Ohio, 49 percent of seniors say Romney would do a better job on Medicare, versus 43 percent who say that about Obama.

But the race is still too close to call.You would think there are enough people with common sense to run the polls up against Obama with a good margin. Hope senat and house races are doing better.
You have to look at the entitlement element and the you realize where the Obama votes are coming from.
I would guess that Florida has HUGE numbers of seniors who are 75 or over. The Obamacare DEATH PANEL age.
I think todays senior pays more attention to the “facts” vs the rhetoric tossed at them by charlatans.
Obamas votes will come from blacks cause he be black(period) and those looking for a hand out and those that don’t know how to survive with out one.
Of course, They have promised to keep them on the SS medicare gravy train even if it adds another $5T to the deficit, and even if the later generations get nothing for their payroll taxes that partially fund it. They need those votes.

Any port in a storm but I still find it distasteful that we are reduced to a UK-style debate over who will prop up the welfare state.
I do not think this siutation will change until this current generation of school kids are supporting the twenty-somethings who have pasted 25 and both demographics are smaller - - as long as seniors and those over 40 years old are looking at SS and they are the major population numbers this ain't gonna change....
Those over 55, especially those retired now vote way more frequently + reliably then those under 30, not that those under 30 have a clue.
Those OVER 55 are clearly Republicans most cherished voters and citizens, that is why the GOP honesty train says that they will fight to the death to hand out todays 55++ those current unaffordable benefits, while claiming honesty in telling those younger that they are out of luck. (Of course Romney-Ryan message has been re-written now to tell voters that Medicare is fine even for future generations, the standard POTUS Santa act)
Republicans make me feel like I shouldn't want them in office until I am 55 so I count too.
i just love the disconnect that is evident in SS recipient not wanting to lose their *investment* while knowing that my input is never going to be recovered...all i ask is that i can opt out and not *contribute* to the ponzi... if they recycled the worthless paper in the lockbox trust fund, SS/mediscare would be solvent until 1972...
Well they tell themselves that it should come out of all that *spending* they don't like.
If they are Rs then they tell themselves it should come out of that 1/2 of the sequester cuts, medicaid etc (I bet most medicaid goes to nursing homes.) they say they dislike that they (Rs) never actually cut.
If they are Ds then they tell themselves it should come out of that 1/2 of the sequester cuts, Defense and tax increases on 'the rich'..
You know sequester???, Ryan , Pelosi and Obama and Boehner and McConnell all voted for and praised, now Ryan is out making believe he had nothing to do with it. This really irks me.
So both retired voters R+D just say hell with it, give me that f.. money or else. I don't care where you get it.

An intellectually honest plan would call for sacrifice from all, whether over or under 55.
But the reality is that would be a no-sale.
That has been my point since the idea first came up last year, and when that plan got shot down in those town hall meetings in WI where Ryan got yelled at. Protecting some at the expense of others is a typical Dem trick.
From a political point of view it doesn't look much better. Trying to pass a plan claiming that one group is protected at the expense of the other, but the other is really being saved in the process will never fly, it didn't and it wont.
Voters may be stupid but they are not that stupid.
The modified Wyden & Ryan plan is improved over his original but still has that flaw. Medicare is running huge deficits NOW and both parties are lying about it.
