Why Todd Akin Could Still Win Missouri (Seriously) (Leftist Atlantic Wants Akin to Stay)
The Atlantic ^ | August 24, 2012 | Molly Ball

Posted on 08/24/2012 9:39:09 AM PDT by C19fan

When Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin went on television last weekend and uttered the words "legitimate rape," veterans of the Sharron Angle campaign had a collective flashback, PTSD-style.

Angle, the Republican Senate candidate who ran against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in 2010, is best remembered for out-there statements like suggesting that "Second Amendment remedies" might be necessary to restore liberty. Her loss to Reid helped ensure that the GOP would fall short of the Senate majority in the midterm elections.

Angle's candidacy is a case study in the ability of a deeply flawed candidate to squander an otherwise winnable election. Republicans' current panic over Akin's candidacy reflects a fear that history will repeat itself in Missouri. But to veterans of the Reid-Angle race, Angle's candidacy also suggests that Akin could still win.

If the conservatives would work to get him elected, he will. Once again we are throwing the candidate out the door. He is able to recover but conservatives are the ones that won’t shut up about it.

If Akin is still on the ballot come November 6th (Not Ms. OBozo's November 2), the turnout to get rid of the OBozo will get Akin elected.

There's no way in hell will a someone who votes for Romney is going to vote for McCaskill the RAT. I don't believe they won't for the Senate seat just to punish Akin.

Now, what I do expect is an effort by the RATs to find an independent for the Senate seat to siphon off Akin's possible votes.

Personally, I would like to see David Limbaugh run for the seat. His running would make RAT heads explode!!

The leftists want the Conservative/GOP to stay distracted and divided by their obsession with Akin in the hope it fractures the GOP base and hands the election to Obama.

What is pathetic is how desperately eager the GOP/Conservative movement is to fall for every trap set by the Democrat propaganda machine.

Better check the internals on the current MO Rasmussen poll. All the GOP/Conservative movement is accomplishing here is fracturing their base in MO.

You are acting as a useful idiot of the Democrat PR machine with your unhealthy fixation on Akin.

Looks like the Atlantic “Akin can win” story took precedence over the pigs can fly story they pulled to make room for it.

This to you and every one else that keeps telling the world what an idoit Akin is, and how he needs to go.

As of right now, he’s not getting out, like it or not. In fact, the more people howl for him to get out, the more he digs his heels in. As it stands right now, the GOPe, national organizations like the NRSC and Crossroads, and such have abandoned the state of Missouri; leaving Missouri Conservatives with a damaged candidate, and no help what so ever. In fact, what people outside the state keep doing is dragging Akin through the mud, giving McCaskill even more help.

McCaskill is deflatable, even by an oh so damaged Akin. Yes, she is that bad and disliked in the state. It’s an up hill battle, and it looks like Missouri voters are going to have do with Akin and by ourselves. So I ask this of everyone on FR, who is not from Missouri.

Shut up and quit carping about it, making it worse for us. No amount of your punditry is going to change things. Things are taking place behind the scenes to get him to leave the race; I am sure. We have until Sept. 25th for him to legally drop out; although I think Sept. 11th is a more likely date they are shooting for. That’s when discounted TV spots expire, and the price for TV time goes up dramatically, if what the news says is true. All the complaining does is give the Libs fodder, keeps the issue fresh on people’s minds, and works on our nerves.

You want to help us, remind anyone you meet that has an opinion about it that Akin may have said something incredibly dumb; he’s still head and shoulders better than McCaskill is on her best day, though.

Full disclosure, I voted for John Brunner, and am not an Akin fan; even before his little gaffe. Since he is the candidate, for now, I am going to support him and work my hardest to help him defeat McCaskill. It’s that important.

Is anyone familiar with Akin’s conservative views or votes? Doesn’t sound like it, does it.

I don’t understand why Congressional candidates don’t get better coaching on answering stuff.

There must be only about a dozen questions that the gotcha media will come at you with over and over.

These candidates should have a canned answer so practiced that they could repeat the answer in their sleep.

Q: Blah blah blah abortion blah blah blah?

A: Currently abortion is legal in the US and I don’t see that changing. A woman with an unwanted pregnancy should consider all their options.

Q: But what about, blah blah blah abortion.

A: I alrady answered that. Next question over here to the right.

You are right. A huge group of Republican so called conservatives are dumb as the proverbial box of rocks. Let one Republican make a gaff and out he goes. What a sick joke some of these idiots are.

Having not read the article I will only say that I think the guy will win.

Like many non-Missourians I had never heard of the guy.

Last night I read his bio on his web site.

He has been elected to Congress in Missouri 2 (surrounds St. Louis) six times.

He has a degree in engineering and a Masters degree in Divinity.

He has run as a God Fearing, Pro-Life Conservative.

Mo. knows who he is and his awkward way of putting it in that interview will fade.

He went from 1 ahead to 10 behind in 2 days. If he begins to close that gap to any extend the RNC will begin to put the money they originally intended to spend there back into play.

I was personally angry with him for his clumsy way of putting himself at risk. Now I see him as a man of principle who I have contributed to and will continue to support.

Oh, by the way, We Need That Seat!

Yeah, that’s right. It’s the Republicans who keep this “macaca” thing alive. Just wait a day or two and Joe “Gaffer” Biden will make another outlandish statement that the irresponsible media will ignore, or something else will knock the “story” off the front page.
Conservatives seem to be good at shooting themselves in the foot; but I guess they just stay so keyed up about the media’s ever-watchful spying eye trained on them just waiting to pounce of them for a “macaca-like” moment.

Yep. One thing you've got to give to the dems - they know how to circle the wagons. Remember after Clinton was impeached? They rallied for him on the capitol steps.

Akin gives one bad interview and he's tossed out on his ear.

Stop the circular firing squads...

1. Molly ball

A molly ball (or mollyball, one word) is the pure form of the chemical MDMA (commonly referred to as ecstasy) which has been rolled into the center of a ball of some type of food and then eaten. This may include, but is certainly not limited to:

-Brownies

-Cake

-Rice

-Bread Dough

- Dinner Rolls

-Spinach

-Macaroni and Cheese

-Spherical Empanadas

-etc.

In addition, ‘Mollyball’ may be modified to become the verb “mollyballing” or “playing mollyball”.

The word itself may also be shortened to either “MolBall” (pronounced ‘mall-ball’) or “MB”s.
“-Hey, did you bring the molly balls for tonight?

-Yup. Macaroni and cheese MBs, my nigga.”
