Robert Reich: Romney Will Beat 'Wooden' Obama in Presidential Debates
Newsmax ^ | August 25, 2012 | Newsmax Wires

Mitt Romney has turned into such a skilled debater that he could trounce President Barack Obama in their three head-to-head encounters in the run-up to the election, former Democratic Labor Secretary Robert Reich believes.

Romney “is going to be debating somebody who is not nearly as good a debater as his reputation,” Reich tells Atlantic Magazine in its September issue. He says that under live questioning, Obama “can seem kind of wooden” and “at a loss for words.”

“Even if Romney is scripted and not spontaneous, he will come across as ‘on his game,’ ” Reich tells the Atlantic. “The danger for Obama is that Romney can still look better than Obama, if Obama does not have the same degree of discipline about the debates.”

Reich, now Chancellor’s Professor of Public Policy at the University of California at Berkeley, was quoted in an extensive article in the Atlantic by its longtime national correspondent, James Fallows. The magazine’s report was based on an examination of tapes of Romney’s debates throughout his political career.

I thought the Wizard gave the brain to the scarecrow, not the munchkin!

Seriously though, this article screams “lowering expectations” for Zero’s debate performance. He’s comin’ undone.

Rick Perry reworked Reagan's classic line and gave Mittens the only line that he really needs.

Are you 5 trillion dollars in debt better off than you were four years ago?

All the moderators are closet 0bama loyalists. The deck is stacked against him!

Moderators mean a lot in the primaries where you have multi candidates and the moderator can favor some and ignore others.

In a one on one debate, the moderator does not mean as much.

There is no deck. McCain v. Obama...didn’t raelly matter. Romney v. Obama...doesn’t really matter. They’ve got us right where they wanted us so as to extract their greatest wealth.

McCain v Obama did matter - McCain came across old and grumpy ... I am really warming up to this year’s GOP ticket though ... especially Ryan ...

I hear Obama will be using a micro teleprompter on a contact lens. Obama will receive his thoughts in large print.

How much you wanna bet Bambi has the questions handed to him in advance? The media is going to do their utmost to guide the voters to the proper conclusion.

Actually, I’ll bet Reich was asked to present this opinion. Lest we forget, Obama was heralded as the brightest, most brilliant debater ever just four years ago.

Now that he’s going up against a guy that might have an even chance, he’s got to lower expectations.

We ought to dig up all those old glowing descriptions of what a marvel Obama was. Then we can force his media blitz to eat them.

They are already starting to set the bar so low that all he as to do is show up and the media will fawn over him.

Same thing with Joe "Mouth Breather" Biden.

It's the first shot of the narrative.

Even if Obamao is handed questions secretly ahead of time, he still has to memorize the answers. Not an easy task without teleprompter. Note Obamao’s grades in school were mediocre which is why he has them locked up.

Obama is the most over-rated extemporaneous speaker in the history of American politics.

He sucks off the cuff, in interviews, in debate, and off the teleprompter.

The liberal media is what turned him into a supposed speaking genius.

Mitt has been through the wringer for so long, he is battle hardened.

Those primaries were not exactly easy.

As I recall, Obama actually did quite well in the 2008 debates for both the primary and general elections.

Reasons - He speaks like a snake oil salesman, makes facts up on the spot and the media protects him and covers for him.

It is only the day after the debate that his bogus “facts” are challenged but that is too late. People who watched the debate are left with the impression that Obama had a grasp of the facts during the debate.

And anyone trying to correct the record after the debate is treated with disdain by the media, who always do their best to ridicule them and make their corrections seem like sour grapes.

Yep...raise expectations. Romney should get Sununu and his other effective surrogates out there spouting off on how hard Romney is working to face the Greatest Orator in Modern Times and remind everyone about all the (bubble headed easily impressed shallow as a wading pool) audience members who fainted all those times when The One was reading his tele...uh, speaking from the heart.
