GOP Rules Committee Rapidly Moving to Shut Out Grassroots at 2:00 p.m. Today (It's not over)
RedState ^ | Tuesday August 28, 2012 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 08/28/2012 7:31:55 AM PDT by Bigtigermike

At 2:00 p.m. today in Tampa, the Republican National Committee, led by Team Romney, is moving to shut down conservative grassroots activists. I’ve been on the phone with several individuals involved in the fight who tell me that the fight is not over, it is only just starting.

Specifically, the media is reporting that the rules fight is over because Team Romney is abandoning Ben Ginsberg’s effort to allow candidates to control delegates. Under an initial proposal, delegates would, in effect, be chosen by the presumed nominee’s campaign and not based on votes in the states and delegate selection processes in the states.

That issue appears resolved, but several people I’ve spoken to this morning make clear that Team Romney and the RNC establishment are using that compromise as a red herring to distract from two major rules change proposals that would decimate Republican grassroots and prevent upstart political campaigns.

Reports that the floor fight threat is over might be designed to calm the grassroots and get them to ignore what is coming at 2 o’clock.

The first rule to be proposed is one that would give the Republican National Committee the power to change rules between conventions with a three-quarters vote of the RNC. One source tells me, “With a Republican President, of course this is doable. Everybody will roll over if a President Romney asks them too. They’ll be able to get Ben Ginsberg’s proposal next year.”

In other words, if Team Romney prevails in this rules change, they don’t have to worry about Ben Ginsberg not getting his way today on the delegate changes. They’ll be able to do it later when the press and grassroots are not watching.

The second rules change would front load winner takes all primaries.

>> I will NEVER vote for Romney or any other establishment republican.

Enter the “I’d much rather have Obama” comment.

Personally, I’ve given up on the Republican establishment.

I’d be voting 3rd party if we had a 3rd party candidate who had even a small chance to win. As it is, I’ll be holding my nose and voting for Romney. Unfortunately the RINO establishment knows that, and takes people like me for granted.

I’ll be voting AGAINST Obama, not FOR Romney. I don’t think we can survive 4 more years of Obama. At least with Romney we have a chance to buy some time. We need to use that time, if we get it, to build a viable alternative to the Republican establishment.

If Obama wins I suggest a crash course in alternative investments. Things like food and lead (if it’s not too late already). Of course, Obama’s domestic army (aka: “Homeland Security”) will try to take these things away.

I emailed the NM delegates on the convention committee on rules and order of business. It's getting late, but here is the list of state delegates:

p.s. Rush covering this now.

The Ron Paul maneuvers are the GOP-E Trojan Horse to banish all opposition. This is so much bigger than the hassle of dealing with 186 Paul delegates in a sea of Romney convention delegates.

What a ruse, that this hatchet to kill a fly approach is being swallowed whole.

The Establishment has been itching to use something to retail to the galactically naieve in order to silence the entire conservative wing of the party. This has fallen in their lap.

I hope his son, Sen. Rand Paul learns an important lesson from this incident.

I will be voting 3rd party at the top of the ticket and conservative down ticket. I am a firm believer that the GOP has lost it's way and is no longer the party that supports my views.

Some of us has seen this coming for many years..

Even Limbaugh just said, this has nothing to do with Ron Paul.

No f'n way to I support these political insider frauds.

The Bush years cemented that in for me.

It is disturbing to see so many here who are just dieing to throw away their vote, and give Zero a chance to win. I just don't get the reason for doing that. Sure, make whatever “statement” you like, but please do not screw this up for those of us who want Zero out for good.

Ye-Gods people, haven't we suffered enough for the last four years? Ya really wanna keep it going for another four?

I don't recognize this place any more. It is overrun now with fake conservatives just wanting to monkey-wrench the process for their own ego trip.

rant/off

Curiously, the Romney operatives announced a “compromise” not to the scrambling delegates, but to the New York Times!

This, when Rule 12 was left hanging in the balance! The conservatives Tea Party are getting worked over and peeled off on the basis of their naievete and procedural ignorance I fear.

Moderates are lying, manipulative, bottom feeding scum who will happily lose an election just to say "we told you so".

Good post.

But next time don't be so reticent !!!

No.

Effing.

Way.

I.

Vote.

Romney.

F*** it. Burn the country to the ground, then. Obama for FOUR MORE YEARS. Let's just go full-on communist, rather than socialist by the teaspoon.

“Trouble at the convention” should be the name of the game! The candidates and the RNC should ALWAYS have a healthy respect for and fear of what delegates may do at the convention.

5Over the years, the convention has turned into an orchestrated event to confirm the party’s man instead of an event for delegates elected by the states/people to negotiate agreement and elect a candidate.

This has nothing to do with Paulbots - that’s their excuse

Even Limbaugh just said it has nothing to do with Paul.

The government insiders running the GOPe want you to supported another liberal like Romney...

Never again do I get suckered like I did with Bush.

The GOPe is one big con-job...

I'd rather juggle flaming chain saws than support another leftist liberal GOP candidate.

Hammer meet nail, to what you said!

I am thankful some of these posters are not delegates and remain plenty worried about the naievete of those who ARE delegates.

Can you imagine the compromising delegates placing 3/4 fractions on liberty?

I am alarmed!

Stealth assault and ambush in a quick surprise strike is has fewer risks of failing.

Exactly - their 'well-planned ambush' now manifests as an 'element of surprise' attack on for their enemy/us/conservatism/grass roots America.

Deception, the tool of satan.

So let me ask you this question -

Which will be worse for the country? Four years of Obama’s fast socialism opposed by a Republican House and hopefully Senate [who will repeatedly stall or stop his agenda] -or- Eight years of Romney’s slow socialism unopposed by anybody?

Seems like a wash to me. In fact, if Romney gets elected, we can already see that he will destroy the Republican party and turn it solidly into a Dem-lite party of moderates, compromising pols and RINOs.

So since I can’t prevent the next socialist president, I can and will do what I can to advance the cause of conservatives and capitalism by supporting a 3rd party. Perhaps the GOPe will learn their lesson - I doubt that.
