Romney says abortion legal for mother's health DONNA CASSATA August 27, 2012 6:43 PM EDT Copyright 2012 Lubbock Online. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Republican Mitt Romney says he is in favor of abortion in cases of rape, incest and thehealth and life of the mother.

The presidential candidate's addition of the health of the mother is certain to raise questions about Romney'sposition among conservatives. Health can be broadly defined and, in fact, running mate Paul Ryan has challenged the health exception as a major loophole.

Romney commented in an interview Monday with CBS News. The network released Romney's comments before its evening broadcast.

Romney's position on abortion rights has evolved. When he ran for the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts, he backed abortion rights. As a presidential candidate, he has opposed abortion rights and says the Supreme Court should reverse the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion.

It makes one wonder if Romney wants to win. Has he been threatened?

Why would he blow up his own convention?

Over 186 Paul delegates, out of a sea of Romney delegates?

Who buys that?

Does everyone on this thread understand that if the Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade TOMORROW that abortion would still be legal in New York and California and a score of other states if not nearly all now?

But we should focus on this and do Obama’s bidding and ignore all the economic news and failed policies, etc?

it doesn't matter wtf any Republican candidate is "for" or "against" because IT DOES NOT MATTER AS LONG AS ROE V. WADE IS IN EFFECT.

And no president will ever have any effect on whether Roe v Wade remains in effect?

If I have a baby, my hair will fall out.

If I have a baby, I will get depressed.

If I have a baby, I will gain weight.

If I have a baby, I might get a headache.

If I have a baby, I could get a hangnail.

The bottom line is that Romney is a Baby Killer.

But we should focus on this

Yes killing babies is such a bore. Come on. This is the most important social issue of our time. It needs to be completely abolished. We are murdering babies and you find that not important.

They don;t define “Health” if they mean “mental Health” in there, it could be used to justify EVERY single abortion that is done for Birth Control purposes...

I understand that if the Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade TOMORROW, abortion policy would be returned to voters who don't support abortion-on-demand-until-the-umbilical-cord-is-cut (except perhaps in a few fever swamps like New York and California).

Agree 100%.

In fact, my only exception for abortion is when the life of the mother is endangered.

Team Romney made a tough choice : hard work to appeal to the conservative voters, or easy work to appeal to the disaffected liberal voters. There appears to be sufficient volume of Obama buyer's remorse going around to think the easy path to victory will succeed. In the choice between what's right and what's easy, they went with "easy". It is insulting to our intelligence to imply Romney's feet can be held to a conservative fire. The liberals have a fire too, built on the backs of conservative stick gatherers and flint miners. And there's a big cushy chair pulled up to it with Romney's name on it if he pulls this election off.

Unfortunately, the millions of dead babies during a Romney presidency will not give a damn about Obama’s economic policies.

Why don’t Republicans quit even talking about abortion? It’s a no-win topic.

Possum, check your premise.

Suppose CBS/AP wanted Republicans to lose?

"Why don’t we try to keep Republicans talking about abortion? It’s a win-win topic for Democrats!"

xzins and napscoordinators are not likely outright collaborators, but certainly useful idiots for the Dems.

The health of the mother?

Mitt to Conservative Voters: "yeah, if the woman's life is in anger that's health."

Mitt to liberals: "if it can affect the woman's health (stress, increased common colds) abortion is legal for her."

Obviously he's taking Olympia Snowe's advice...

Sen. Olympia Snowe on how the GOP can mend its image among women

Indeed. Voters who say abortion is important to their vote are pro-life by a 2-to-1 margin.

Unfortunately, the 12 MILLION dead babies during THE REAGAN presidency DID not give a damn about REAGAN'S CITY ON THE HILL.

How many million partial birth abortions will your tax dollars pay for in an Obama second term?

OK, all right, calm down!

There is a gradation in health from something really mild, to something almost certainly deadly.

So, the statement is a bit ambiguous. Still, from the medical point of view, sometimes one must make a choice.

I would urge that we move off such debatable cases to clear ones, so that the enemy can be taken on under its true colors. The abortionists in Congress (almost to the last one) favor partial birth abortion. It is THIS, not dubious cases, which really shows that they (essentially) have the devil behind them.

It is sometimes very difficult to argue the abortion issue with someone who has been brainwashed by the media and by modern education. My way is to keep the thing very simple, and don’t demand that someone change all at once in the midst of an argument, which for most people becomes a personal contest.

Instead, I prefer to give people a thought which is bound to point them in the right direction. Recently, I like to tell people that different societies have different rules, and sometimes it is difficult to tell. (This is what they hear in school, anyway.) But, I continue, there is a little HINT for recognizing evil movements: if a movement advocates the mass killing of unarmed, innocent civilians, it is a subtle hint that it is evil. Bolshevism and Naziism are examples, as is Maoism (executing every farmer with more than one hectare of land). Look at the number of aborted unborn babies: it is killing on the same scale.

In the case of killer dictatorships, it would have been important to see what is coming, before you found yourself being loaded onto a boxcar for some destination to the east. It would also be important for you not to find yourself supporting such movements.

Abortion is different, or course: because the babies cannot escape or fight back. But an adult can certainly make sure not to be on the wrong side of this life-and-death issue, which is as important for you as not being a guard in a death camp.

But it’s just a hint. Think about it. (And I end the conversation without further disputation.) People must make up their own minds.

12 million! WOW!

Number of abortions per year: 1.37 Million (1996)

Looks like Reagan's pro-life message finally showed positive results actually saving more than 10 million babies per year!

Thank you, President Reagan!

So we have an AP story about a SeeBS interview that helps Obama's campaign steer the campaign toward the "war on women" and away from the economy, and Freepers gleefully bite.

We have Romney on tape stating that he is for all intents and purposes pro-choice. Sorry that you don't like that CBS was the one who recorded him. When we criticize Obama, we are also generally using recordings of him that were done by the MSM since we couldn't all be there in person. The AP is absolutely trying to stoke conservative opposition to Romney. But Romney made it easy for them by making it easy as directly quoting his anti-conservative views.
