Over 120 Pastors & Christian Leaders Stand with Todd

St. Louis, MO: Today the Akin campaign released a list of over 120 pastors and Christian leaders who are publicly standing with Todd Akin. Some had previously signed their name, but many are voicing their support for the first time. These religious figures from every region of the state have decided to place their personal and very public support behind Congressman Todd Akin in his race for the United States Senate seat this year. The endorsement statement released was as follows:

We the undersigned do hereby affirm/reaffirm our continued support of Congressman Todd Akin for the office of United States Senate. We know his character and his conservative convictions. Furthermore, we accept fully his apology and his request for forgiveness. As stated in our previous endorsement: “We greatly appreciate his long standing commitment to our God-given rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and his proven record of defending life, traditional marriage, religious liberty, the Second Amendment, free enterprise, limited government, fiscal responsibility and a strong national defense.”

It is for such reasons as these, that we the undersigned affirm/reaffirm our personal support and continue to encourage our fellow Missourians to support Congressman Todd Akin as our next United States Senator.

Chip, please let me know what your emphasis is, and I’ll address it. I’m not sure what specific thing you’re referencing that took place in Tampa.

“He is dying on a hill with zero strategic value just to watch the invading army rape and pillage the people while he gasps his last political breath.”

Graphic language, but damned if I can find anything I would disagree with.

Republicans PANICKED!, and that is why we are where we are.

No, we're where we are because Todd Akin wasn't intelligent to keep his mouth shut - instead, he deliberately chose to give a negative sound bite to the Democrats and their MSM buddies.

Stop blaming others. Todd Akin is in this mess completely because of himself.

What he pulled down there in Tampa today is more despicable and makes him worthy of the title.

This entire Akin flap would be a non-issue if it were not for all the gutless bastards lending support to the liberals screeching like their hair’s on fire.

Did the Sarah Palin tele-drama teach these idiots nothing?

It’s not Akin’s ego that’s going to lose this election: it’ “conservative” cowardice!

The “independents” would pay no more attention to this than they do any Democrat hypocrisy were it not for our side dancing to the liberal’s tune.

These people don’t *deserve* to win the seat from McCaskill.

No wonder that the RINO's hate him.

He has defied Karl Rove and refused to take a bribe. He is a leader and a fighter and he will win this race.

Obama can say his faith is real and legitimate, but Akin can’t make reference to legitimate rape.

Strange qualifiers in both cases unless illegitimate faith and illegitimate rape actually mean something.

There are some major Missouri names on this list of regional or local significance. Most are Baptists with a few Presbyterian, Lutheran, Assemblies of God, and other names, plus a number of people from Concerned Women for America and other conservative women's organizations. It looks like Akin is now totally invested in this and is not going to back down. After the RNC chairman's “not one penny” comment, it looks like we're going to have a fight between politically active social issues conservatives — sometimes called “Tea-vangelicals” — and the Republican leadership. I don't see any way to avoid this war now. And no, I'm not happy and I'm not looking forward to this fight.

Since I'm no prophet or seer, I have no clue how this is going to turn out. I will tell any and all that the prospect of having sly like a fox, commie Claire representing Missouri for 6 mores years leaves a bitter taste from my mouth to the pit of my stomach.

For those who think Baptists only vote Republican, forget who helped keep old Bill Clinton's approval numbers steady at around 66% all through his adulteries, were the Billy Graham democrats.

AND those that are surprised and angry at the RNC's reaction have not been paying attention to the RNC since Reagan. Remember how the Republican leadership gave cover to their little Foley, full well knowing what reaction those 'values' voters would have to his 'lifestyle'... AND when the perverted liberal media outed Foley, WHO got the blame.... why those values voters because they do not know how to win elections. Foley nor the Republican leadership ever apologized for their part, and to this day the 'values' voters still get the blame for losing the House in 2006.

Where are those 'pro-life' Catholic churches?

Akin needs money, lots and lots and lots of money to win against Claire...

The whole "fiscon" (fiscal conservative) versus the "socon" (social conservative) is a contrived distinction used by those who are neither fiscal or social conservatives to divide us for conquering. Performing an abortion offends social conservatives. Using tax payer dollars to fund abortions offends fiscal conservatives. When a progressive liberal like Romney or Obama sign a healthcare law that provides $50 dollar abortions with the balance "distributed" to the tax payers in socialistic fashion, it offends everyone. Real conservatives do not pick and choose what they are conservative about. The war that is being waged is not being waged against fiscons or socons, it is being waged against conservatives, period. Remember asking Washington if it can "hear us now?" Washington answered "no". It's time to get louder.

Its a fight the socons will lose. Or more accurately, already lost. The gop dislikes conservatives in general. But it reserves its real hatred for socons.

The only choice the socons really have is to either embrace a different party or do something other than politics.

I agree on the factor of destructive hysteria.

Akin’s remarks were ambiguous and definitely warranted clarification. The only reasonable conclusion that could be made from his controversial remarks is: abortion is not acceptable in the case where rape is not a factor.

Look at this. Look at it carefully.

This is what the Fuehrer did. To millions. Think of what this means to anyone on this site who had relatives massacred by the Fuehrer. Or by anyone who has any humanity. First, you referred to Fuehrer Romney and you were called on it. Instead of apologizing, you say "What he pulled down there in Tampa is more despicable and makes him worthy of the title." More despicable than Hitler? More despicable than Hitler? Yes, I will shout it ---

WHAT IN THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?

Uncle Chip, the party nominee generally makes changes he and his team desire. I’m not necessarily defending Romney here, and if you have a case to make, I might agree with your take on it. Explain to me what you are particularly offended by, and I’ll see if your take on it is something I agree with. I may.

There has been one big problem for me in the primary process. That problem is the issue of open primaries. The idea that winner takes all is the big problem escapes me, when Democrats are actually voting to give us folks like Romney and the RNC fails to address that.

Winner takes all has been the traditional way things were run for decades. It’s kind of a two edged sword though.

We had our guys winning states this time, and only getting one more electoral vote than folks who didn’t win. Santorum was the victim of that sort of thing several times.

That actually made it very hard for him to gain traction against Romney, because Romney could get half as many votes as Santorum, and not even show up in a state to robustly fight for it. That didn’t seem right to me.

Hope this helps.

BTW: I honestly still don’t understand what any of this has to do with my comment on the Akin thread.

It's funny - not really - that you should post that pic given that mitt makes money on shredded babies. How many shredded, burnt babies do you suppose mitt made money on? Hundreds? Thousands? Tens of thousands?

Oh, he's not evil in the sense that he personally killed them. He's more like the industrialists who provided the ovens for Auschwitz.
