Guess who's defending Akin now
Politico ^ | 8/31/12 | Alexander Burns

Newt Gingrich on Thursday came to Todd Akin’s defense, calling the embattled Missouri Senate candidate “honorable” and “sincere.”

Speaking to POLITICO’s Mike Allen at the Playbook Afternoon Snack event here, the former House speaker said the controversy surrounding Akin’s recent “legitimate rape” comments was a “good example of why the power structure in Washington sometimes ought to take a deep breath.”

“Todd Akin made a mistake. He’s an honorable guy, he’s a sincere guy. He said something stupid. There was a firestorm,” Gingrich said.

You are so demented. No Akin is going to win and then you are going to be in a corner crying your eyes out. You are part of the destroy Akin group. The GOPe picked Romney so he best do his work to get elected. I am one vote that is it.

I am a current Candidate for a House seat in MO as a Republican. I proudly support Todd and will continue to do so until Todd decides to withdraw (UNLIKELY). So let's get with the program and stay focused on the main goal, GETTING RID OF CLAIRE.
Withholding funds does not do our party and good and lessens our chance of doing so. Suck it up anti Toddsters and get behind the effort to oust Claire.
Todd made a misstatement and apologized over and over, he is the one we elected so quit trying to appoint someone else. If you want to win the Senate don't change horses in mid stream at this late date. Oh and yes, you better restore funding.

I hope you will forgive me if I don’t believe you

Whatever, you must be a democrat, since you think that a blue collar worker like myself has no political mind.

I really don't care if you have the same mindset of Nancy Pelosi.

I will be happy with joy when McCaskill is out, the thing I am concerned about are persons like you, who hate the GOP more than the democrats, and that if Todd Akin listens to you more.

Why should I forgive you, when you don't believe(forgive) me.

So then I guess Rove is a Democrat too or is this how the GOPe speak about one of their own:

“In a closed-door fundraiser at the Republican National Convention, Karl Rove reportedly joked about the murder of Missouri GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin.

“We should sink Todd Akin. If he’s found mysteriously murdered, don’t look for my whereabouts!” joked Rove, according to a Businessweek report of the fundraiser.”

Hey Dallas, Rove and his highhanded moderate cronies did what they could to put on the ballot a candidate of their choosing.... If you can, look at Akin’s voting record during the Bush years.... Akin was a conservative ‘spender’ not a moderate sending US into a debt crisis..

Yes Akin did give these little toadies the opportunity to shove him out, but, this was not the beginning, and his ‘pro-life’ stand is the least of what bugs and bothers these fiscal liberals.

Get over it, I guess you switched your vote to Dukakis in 88, when President Reagan made a joke about bombing the Soviet Union in 1985.

What Akin said was probably not the most articulate thing I have ever heard, but I have heard much worse from democRATS.

Why shouldn’t Akin not try to win this race?

So he should take responsibility and not have others on FR say he is not responsible for his words, as Uncle Chip.

You changed the subject rather quickly for a meek little blue collar worker. Is it acceptable in your book of ethics for someone to say this:

“We should sink Todd Akin. If he’s found mysteriously murdered, don’t look for my whereabouts!” joked Rove, according to a Businessweek report of the fundraiser.

Why aren’t you calling on Rove to resign???

See reply #29.

Now the question to you is why you hate Karl Rove more than Claire McCaskill.

What exactly Dallas do you mean 'take' responsibility. I do believe Akin spent a whole week apologizing for his words. Maybe you should practice what you preach. I can't wait for Rove to take responsibility for the havoc he has created across this nation. But what is he just one of those more special animals described in Animal Farm?

We in Missouri can vote in our own elections and if Akin can get his supporters to really support him with political life, cash, lots of it then Akin can really represent we citizens of Missouri. I think that is what the arrogant highhanded moderates fear more than anything else. An independent senator that cannot be bribed or bought that is an actual conservative....

No -- the question to you is why you and Karl Rove hate Akin more than you want to defeat Claire McCaskill???

Get over it, I guess you switched your vote to Dukakis in 88, when President Reagan made a joke about bombing the Soviet Union in 1985.

So this is your defense of Karl Rove's joke about Akin????

Not even a call for him to apologize???

You Rovists on this forum are too much.

Please, Akin took a day to half-heartedly to "apologize" for his remarks, and the he flew to Tampa to listen to his echo chamber.

BTW, have you noticed that since Todd Akin has kept his mouth shut, he is now equal in the polls.

All he has to do is keep his mouth shut, but his hubris won't let him.

Not even a call for him to apologize???

Who caused this firestorm, Todd Akin or Karl Rove.

Never mind, you will say something like that there was a gun behind the scene being held by Karl Rove towards Todd Akin, when Todd Akin made his stupid remarks.

"trouble"? Akin was troubling during that interview, especially about the question of rape and abortion, and everybody knows it.

So, I'm supposed to accept that a man of sterling character and rock-solid conservative principles is to be thrown under the bus, because he had a mild case of "foot in the mouth disease?"

Nobody on earth with the possible exception of that ninny, Barbara Boxer, would see in Akin's remarks any indication that he was trying to "legitimize" rape. Or to see that it is anything but a criminal act, a horrific crime perpetrated mainly against women.

But Akin's question — Who should pay the price for the crime? The perpetrator of it, or the innocent pre-born child? — is worth thinking about.

The GOP-E (whatever that is) wants him "dead" because Akin actually supports — passionately — the right to life; but it is inconvenient to their plans that a "social issue" like this should intrude on their carefully constructed plans for winning this election (including the Senate).

Whatta bunch of wussies!

I mean, I know they like to do things "by the numbers" (read: polls). But what about defending the principles which are clearly stated in the GOP platform, and the people who advance them — like Akin?

My sense is Akin is taking the fight to McCaskill, not wasting time defending himself against the GOP establishment. He may be short on bucks, but I believe he will win this fight.

It seems to me the people of Missouri aren't a bunch of dithering morons who run for the hills anytime there is a fabricated "problem" like this.

The choice between Akin and McCaskill is certainly clear enough. She is nothing but a mouthpiece for the political Left trying to keep her job and her party in power. Akin is a man of substance and principle who clearly believes that the right to life is a gift of God, which is protected by our Constitution.

JMHO FWIW

It was an apology that played on TV for two weeks paid for by his own campaign funds. He put his money where his mouth is -- which is more than can be said for Rove and the GOPe.

BTW we would accept a "half-hearted" apology from Karl for his mouthy hubris about Akin. Are we going to get one???

Turn around and ask him.
