He could have benefited from Moochelle's new Supermarket Shopping 101 course.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I’ll second that bet.

Marines, contrary to popular moron belief, get rid of psychos as fast as they find them.

And they can usually spot a misfit from at least 1,000 yards.

Christine Lo Brutto, 18, and Bryan Breen, 24, were killed, officials said.

Terrible that he killed these two young people (and he obviously wanted to kill others).

It does say in the article that he "may have had a history of mental illness or depression," so I think that answers the question of why he was only in the Marines for 2 years.

***The emphasis was placed on “ex-Marine” as some sort of barometer by the writers. ***

Reminds me of an old Bill Mauldin cartoon of post war Willie and Joe.

Joe is home reading a newspaper whose headline screams..”SOLDIER SLAPS AUNT!”

Joe says to his wife...”Here is an article about a triple ax murder on page six. No GIs involved.”

Technically, the NDSM is given for serving in the military during a time of national emergency, and isn’t related to boot camp. We’ve been in a declared national emergency since 9/11, so everyone has it. In the Marine Corps, we call it the “Firewatch Medal”.

LOL,

I think somewhere in my pile of stuff, I have that cartoon. Someone sent it to me after I was rejected for a job in the 70’s.

It cheered me up a lot.

I look back on it now and have to laugh. Some things never change.

In the Navy we got them for guarding dumpsters and never losing one while in boot camp.

Yeah, is that one of those handguns where you just pull the trigger once and it automatically empties the magazine for you?

<clueless reporter mode>

From your comment, one can certainly tell that you're not a professional journalist. It automatically empties the entire clip!

Tyler was discharged from the Marines in 2010 after just under two years in the service in Twentynine Palms, Calif., the Marines said. The infantryman from New York City never served overseas, said Marine spokeswoman Capt. Kendra Motz. She wouldn't comment on the circumstances of his discharge.

His uncle, Christopher Dyson, said he left after suffering from depression, and a cousin said he had been hospitalized and was never happy with the Marines. Tyler, who also lived in San Diego, left California in June to move to New Jersey, where he lived with his sister and uncle.

"He was a quiet cat, you know?" Dyson said. "We don't know anything that would compel him to do this."

His cousin, Shanteya Dyson said Tyler had not been the same since his mother died of cancer. His father died when he was young.

"That was his best friend. He was always a quiet guy. But he got more quiet. He really didn't speak at all. He was just blank," said Dyson.

Tyler spent the July 4 weekend drinking at Jersey shore bars with Manase Acheantong, who said Tyler was his friend's cousin.

"We went out. We had drinks. He was a normal kid. He didn't start no fights. He didn't seem crazy," said Acheantong, 25, of Old Bridge.

===================

... He was planning on going back to school and becoming a brain surgeon, no doubt.

The girl was 18 and the boy was 24?

Too bad the girl’s father didn’t get a chance at him for about an hour. Anything less than that wouldn’t have been enough.

The NDSM is given for active duty service during time of war.

If you graduate boot during time of war, yes, you get one. In peace time, no.

Serving two years is not at all odd. It’s what I was looking for: some kind of lead to say what the news poopy-heads won’t tell us, as in one of the recent “shootings by a former soldier.

The guy might have been dishonorably discharged.

this is going to get worse begore it gets better, but these people and their overlord will do anything to mess with the military.

Watch for it.

Everyone gets the NSDM which means you served. It also serves as place marker; medals for merit to left and above; medals for areas and campaigns to the right and below.

Not quite. The NDSM is only authorized during time of war. It is only for service, not service in theater.

My ex Navy brother served 14 years and never was awarded one he went in after Nam and got out before the next one got fired up.
