US 'hushed up' Soviet guilt over Katyn

New evidence appears to back the idea that the Roosevelt administration helped cover up Soviet guilt for the 1940 Katyn massacre of Polish soldiers.

Historians said documents, released by the US National Archives, supported the suspicion that the US did not want to anger its wartime ally, Joseph Stalin.

They showed the US was sent coded messages suggesting the Soviets, not the Nazis, carried out the massacre.

More than 22,000 Poles were killed by the Soviets on Stalin's orders.

Soviet Russia only admitted to the atrocity in 1990 after blaming the Nazis for five decades.

According to a review of the documents by the Associated Press, they show that American prisoners of war sent coded messages to Washington in 1943 saying they had been taken to see corpses in an advanced state of decay in the Katyn forest near Smolensk, in western Russia.

And it was the Soviets who started, and perpetuated, the rumor that Pope Pius XII was a Nazi sympathizer. The Poles, probably more than any other people, suffered during WWII and its aftermath. They were brutally invaded and occupied by the Germans in 1939 and brutally “liberated” and occupied by the Soviets from 1945 to 1990.The struggle between the Nazis and the Soviets, like so many other struggles, was one that you’d wish *both* sides could have lost.

Sort of like this November.

agreed. our first socialist president.
(and before the war, he publicly admired Hitler!)
he laid the groundwork, for the mess today,
especially social security.
and like Obama, he turned a typical business cycle recession, into a years long depression.

.They were brutally invaded and occupied by the Germans in 1939 ...

Don't forget Poland was invaded from the east by the Soviets 16 days after the Germans invaded from the west.

This incident was a primary theme in the WEB Griffin book The Lieutenants and the rest of the series. So far as a coverup, the reports were not especially important when compared to the business of the day, killing Germans.

Dead Polish officers lose importance when you are up to your ass in refugees.

That the Democrats still worship FDR tells us a lot. He was such a low-life that his mother kept the family finances, which were considerable, until she died in her nineties. She did not trust him with the family checkbook, but the Democrats put him in charge of the US government for four terms, even when he was all but dead and his Communist wife was running the country.

Looking at the nation’s history for the past 80 years, it’s a shame that all lDemocrats can’t be tried for treason. They have done more to destroy American than any foreign enemies.

Both parties are accomplices. Granted the Democrats do the actual armed robberies, but the Republicans then drive the getaway car. That is the pattern. The Republicans’ job is to make the disruption smooth again, and sooth the ruffled feathers. That is about to happen again. We’ll be put back to sleep, as the distortions of the past three years and ten months are quietly integrated into the ‘norm’. The two parties are not adversaries, they are a Mutt and Jeff team.

The GOP is now telling us how they can manage socialism better than the DEMS. The real problem is you can’t manage socialism.

Lots of things were overlooked after the USSR became an ally against Nazi Germany during WWII. They also forgot about the Soviet-Nazi Pact that existed until the Nazis invaded the USSR.

The pact between Hitler and Stalin gave Stalin the green light. The German Army found only honor in Blitzkrieg on phony reasons to kill the Polish people. There is blood on both hands.
