EXCLUSIVE: Long-awaited 'Furious' report places blame on ATF, Justice
FoxNews ^ | 9/11/12 | William La Jeunesse

Dozens of senior-level U.S. government officials turned a blind eye to public safety as they pursued an ill-conceived and poorly managed investigation into gun trafficking in Mexico, according to a long-awaited inspector general's report on Operation Fast and Furious.

Portions of the Justice Department IG report, which has not been made public, were obtained exclusively by Fox News Channel.

The report and accompanying accounts cite a failure in leadership and a lack of accountability and oversight up and down the chain of command at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Justice Department itself and other offices. It says many senior executives knew the U.S. was helping traffic guns to Mexico that killed people but did nothing to stop it.

"We found no evidence in Operation Fast and Furious that the ATF or the (U.S. attorney's office) attempted at any point during the investigation to balance the risks to the public safety against the long-term benefits of identifying trafficking networks and participants," the draft report says.

Fast and Furious was the anti-gunrunning sting that helped send some 2,000 assault weapons to Mexico under the guise of stopping illegal trafficking. The operation ended only after the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry -- two of the weapons associated with the investigation were found at his murder scene.

Okay. Fine, but who signed off, who authorized the operation?

Executive Privilege.

Michigan Bowhunter said it back in March of ‘09; but I’m sure it can be attributed to a southern comedian the likes of Foxworthy, Envall, or Grizzard prior to that.

Excuse me, that was an “...iron river of guns”, not a “river of iron” that the ATF claimed in March 2009. This was only days before Hillary made her claim.

“Sounds more like a convenience store than a government agency.”

There used to be a little store outside Sandusky called “Ice Cream And Guns.”

“Sounds more like a convenience store than a government agency.”

I wonder if any of the stuff Fox got was going to be, or already is, redacted from the official report?

IIRC, that ATF news release linked in post#24 was the start of the 90% Myth.

Maybe one of the scapegoats will rat on the big boys. The Fast and Furious plan DID NOT come from mid level agents.

The operation ended only after the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry -- two of the weapons associated with the investigation were found at his murder scene.

No, more than two were found...

FBI Criminal Informant Complicit in Brian Terry’s Death (PJM Exclusive)

The rip crew was in Peck Canyon that evening with the intention of stealing money and drugs from a specific shipment of which they had prior knowledge.

(snip)

The rip crew knew to be in Peck Canyon that December evening because a CI working for the FBI found out about a smuggling run — from the FBI.

(snip)

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) — through its own CIs and communications intercepts — was also aware of the planned assault.

Neither the DEA nor FBI warned Border Patrol about the expected criminal activity.

(snip)

The federal government will still not reveal if one of the two WASR-10 AK-pattern semi-automatic rifles located near the scene — provided to the Sinaloa cartel via Operation Fast and Furious — was the weapon that put a bullet through Brian Terry’s heart. The existence of a third recovered gun, an SKS carbine, has been disputed by the FBI despite the fact it had been talked about openly in the beginning of the investigation among federal agents.

Multiple sources tell PJM that this third weapon “disappeared” because it was the weapon carried by the FBI CI who ran the rip crew. When it was recovered near the scene of the murder and subsequently traced by the ATF, it traced back to the FBI CI via the gun shop in Texas where it was purchased.

Brian Terry’s murder was entirely preventable. The incompetence of the DEA and FBI let his Border Patrol unit walk into an ambush. After the ambush, it appears the FBI tampered with evidence to cover up that one of their informants was involved with the murder of a federal agent.

Translation: We're so Anti-Gun, we don't care if our Operations kill Americans.

This whitewash report is another reason for Romney to nominate a junkyard dog conservative as our next Attorney General. Want to clean house at DOJ? Want to lift wet rocks and see what scurries out? Want to expose and neuter the Marxist radicals who infest our nation’s top law enforcement agency and work against America?

Newt for Attorney General!

They were just carrying out Obama’s orders to get gun control enacted “under the radar”.

Sounds more like a convenience store than a government agency.

I was not the first to say this, but I do not know to whom I should attribute it.

In the movie Deja Vu, Denzel Washington plays an AFT agent investigating the bombing of a ferry in New Orleans. He is interviewing the bad guy, James Caviezel, and identifies himself as being with the ATF. Caviezel says, "A man can always use more alcohol, firearms and tobacco." Denzel replies, "I can think of one more thing." Great lines!

It is very simple to vote in dozens of states

Vote using an absentee ballot

In my state if you register in person - they demand valid ID

If you register and vote by mail

(Motor Votor included)

No ID is involved

Illegal aliens use counsins and uncles names - they also swap their first name and their surnames

Drug dealers get multiple IDs and Driver’s Licenses that way

If caught by LEOs - they relocate and use their next alias

It also is used to get huge multiple Earned Income Credits and huge income tax refunds and Food Stamps and subsidized housing - which they often sublet for cash

It says many senior executives knew the U.S. was helping traffic guns to Mexico that killed people but did nothing to stop it.

If we had an honest government, public officials would be held accountable in the same way that private citizens would be had they committed the very same acts.

Hearings will be held. Reports will be written. And that will be the end of that.

Whenever the feds want a dirty job done, they call in the ATF.

The ATF is the federal goon squad which is why they have never been held accountable and why they never will.
