‘Is This an Act of War?’ Obama Turns His Back on Question about Libyan Attack
CNS ^ | September 12, 2012 | Melanie Hunter

Posted on 09/12/2012 9:54:13 AM PDT by Hunton Peck

President Barack Obama took no questions at the White House Rose Garden press conference on the attacks in Libya, turning his back and walking away as a reporter asked, “Is this an act of war?”

“The United States condemns in the strongest terms this outrageous and shocking attack. We’re working with the government of Libya to secure our diplomats. I’ve also directed my administration to increase our security at diplomatic posts around the world,” Obama said, flanked by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“And make no mistake – we will work with the Libyan government to bring to justice the killers who attacked our people,” he said.

U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens, and three other Americans were killed in attacks Tuesday in Benghazi.

“Since our founding, the United States has been a nation that accepts all faiths. We reject all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. But there is absolutely no justification to this type of senseless violence – none,” the president said. “The world must stand together to unequivocally reject these brutal acts.

“Many Libyans have joined us in doing so,” Obama said, adding that “this attack will not break the bonds between the United States and Libya.”

“Libyan security personnel fought back against the attackers alongside Americans. Libyans helped some of our diplomats find safety, and they carried Ambassador Stevens’ body to the hospital, where we tragically learned that he had died,” he said.

“It’s especially tragic that Stevens died in Benghazi, because it is a city that he helped to save. At the height of the Libyan revolution, Chris led our diplomatic post in Benghazi. With characteristic skill, courage, and resolve, he built partnerships with Libyan revolutionaries and helped them as they planned to build a new Libya,” Obama said.

“Of course yesterday was already a painful day for our nation as we marked the solemn memory of the 9/11 attacks. We mourned with the families who were lost on that day,” the president added. “And then last night we learned the news of this attack in Benghazi.

“As Americans, let us never ever forget that our freedom is only sustained because of people who are willing to fight for it, to stand up for it, and in some cases, lay down their lives for it. The country is only as strong as the character of our people and the service of those both civilian and military who represent us around the globe,” he said.

“No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for,” the president said.

“Today we mourn four more American who represent the very best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act, and make no mistake – justice will be done. But we also know that the lives these Americans led stand in stark contrast with those of their attackers,” he said.

“These four Americans stood up for freedom and human dignity. They should give every American great pride in the country that they served and the hope that the flag represents to people around the globe who also yearn to live in freedom and with dignity,” Obama added.

At the end of the press conference, Obama and Clinton turned to leave as reporters yelled out questions. “Is this an act of war?” one reporter asked.

For all those here who say there is no difference between Obama and Romney - you are simply wrong. This country and this world cannot afford four more years of this disaster.

“The United States condemns in the strongest terms...”

What does that even mean? What are these “strongest terms”?
That formulation can be used to describe specific things someone else said. When used as a primary message, it is a way of avoiding saying anything. Four murdered Americans deserve better from Mr. Articulate.

“Turn up the heat on this.”

Hey, at least some are noticing this murder. When our embassy people are targeted and murdered in Mexico no one seems to care. Why is this any different....except that it was on the other side of the world instead of our back door.

We'll have to disagree then FRiend, however Carter did not just 'stand by' as the Shah's government fell apart, he cut off U.S. aid, did everything possible to isolate Iran as the terrorists consolidated their control, and the historical record establishes that when Carter took office in January '77, Iran was a strong and reliable U.S. ally, a force for peace in that region, had cordial, even friendly relations with Israel (and a major trading partner with Israel), and that when Carter left office, Iran had been transformed into a terrorist state, a threat to the region, and as we can see now, an existential threat to Israel.

Believe me, Carter knew exactly what he was doing, and he did it behind the fig leaf of 'human rights', and we're seeing the rotten fruit of his actions today.

Thank you for setting the record straight.

Carter did much more also to displace the Shah. Carter was a disaster.

RE :”in reality we shouldve been flyin and strafin the crowds before they left the area, making the ole iraqi ‘highway of death’ seem mild in comparison

LOL, Holy cow, You are a bloodthirsty bastard aren't you? You sound like Gen Patton.

Look, it took four years but the world finally loves us thanks to Obama,
Obama is still making payments on the peace prize he got, That is why he is apologizing to the Libyian Muslims for the USA First Amendment allowing hate speech like that youtube video that caused these needless deaths.

Maybe it's time to amend the 1st amendment to allow laws against hate speech, for the children.

Speaking of Patton : Imagine if in the movie Patton 1972 a gay soldier had a pinup of a half naked guy hanging on his locker and patton saw it during inspection, DADT

This is worse. Carter had hostages to be concerned about and, whether or not we agreed, chose not to put them at risk. Here there was a murder.,br>
Also, at least President Carter tried to get them out. The mission failed but at least he gave it a try. The Bamster makes the Carter Administration look like a bastion of success in comparison. Carter may be a moonbat now but I think deep down inside when he sits in his chair at night fires up the old Zenith, he says, "thank God the heat is off of me for having the worse Administration in the last 60 years."

However much you may not have liked Herself, the Cold and Joyless, Herself had it right on one thing - whom do you trust to answer the phone at 3 AM?

WTF, you think Hillary is just carrying out Obama's orders?! Obama is nominally the president, but in fact he doesn't do jack sh*t. Hillary was denied the presidency. Hillary became the Secretary of State. The Middle East is now exploding in flames. If you can't conect those dots, you're not in the conversation. You want to know how to know Hillary is about to do something? When she flies somewhere, turn the globe around to the exact opposite place, and that's where she's left her stinkbomb. Indonesia? China? And then the US Ambassador to Libya is murdered. She's got all the subtlety of a brick through a plate glass window - and every piece of broken glass has her fat fingerprints on it.

I admit Carter screwed up with the Shah but at least he tried to rescue the hostages, if I had to grade, that one small point would put him ahead of Obama. I often wonder as an alternate history buff, what if the Ayatolla “had a cap busted in him” by somebody prior to 1978, how different the world would be.

Well considering that there are more than a few anecdotal reports out there that prior to 1978, that Carter and then-President Giscard d’Estaing of France discussed doing away with the Shah and replacing him WITH Khomeini (who was in exile in France at the time), I kinda doubt anyone was going to pump some lead into the Assahollah, not that he didn’t richly deserve it.

Had the Shah NOT been stabbed in the back by Carter, it is reasonable to assume that the Shah’s son (Reza Pahlavi) would have assumed the Peacock Throne after the death of his father from that cancer, although his youth (he was 18 years old in 1978) would most likely have resulted in some sort of Regent position to assist and guide Reza II, just some speculation on my part.

The fact is, the Shah fell out of favor with Islam primarily due to his recognition of the state of Israel and the fact that he established friendly diplomatic and commercial trading relations.

Naturally if Iran had remained a U.S. ally, the history of that region would be radically different, as the Iranian military was not only trained almost exclusively by their U.S. counterparts, they were armed to the teeth with U.S. weapon systems, which would have meant that Saddam would never dared invade Kuwait (IMHO), and had he pursued his nuclear ambitions I would be willing to bet that it would not have been just Israel bombing the bejesus out of Osirak in ‘81, it might well have been a joint mission of the Israeli AND Iranian air forces.

Pretty accurate speculation.

” Carter put those hostages at risk when he stabbed the Shah of Iran in the back and called the Assahollah Khomeini ‘a godly man’, precipitating the seizure of Iran by Islamic terrorists.”

It hurts to recall how dangerously STUPID Carter was. Carter was stopped by Reagan, and our people were released. Now we must stop Obama, who is far worse.
