If you read the Chinese newspapers they all basically blame Japan for fueling the flames of nationalism and that if Japan wants to end the dispute they need to do the sensible thing and give the islands to China. China is just the “innocent” party here.

I doubt either country really cares about the islands. It’s the resources underneath that they are most likely interested in.
