Zogby: Romney Running Worse Than McCain in ‘08 Thursday, 13 Sep 2012 06:05 PM

President Barack Obama received a surprisingly strong bounce after the Democratic National Convention, and now leads GOP challenger Mitt Romney by nearly 6 points according to a new JZ Analytics poll.

The national poll of likely voters shows Obama leading 47.7 percent to 42 percent, and indicates that Romney is not polling well enough among some conservative demographic groups: NASCAR fans, evangelicals, and the so-called “Walmart voters.”

According to JZ Analytics pollster John Zogby, Romney is in a somewhat worse position than GOP nominee Sen. John McCain was at this point in the 2008 campaign...

In a possible indication that Romney has yet to seal the deal with the GOP base, Zogby reports lackluster poll numbers among NASCAR voters, evangelicals, and frequent Walmart patrons -- groups that tend to be reliably conservative.

Romney leads Obama 48.4 to 44.6 percent among voters who shop weekly at Walmart. He [Romney] narrowly trails Obama among self-identified NASCAR fans, 44 percent to 43 percent.

“That’s a number you would never expect to see,” comments Zogby.

Among “born again” voters, Romney leads Obama by 57 percent to 32 percent. That compares to the 73 percent of evangelical/”born again” voters McCain carried in 2008, according to the Pew Center on Religion and Public Life...

Zogby also describes Obama’s numbers as “anemic” among 18 to 29 year-olds. Only 53 percent of those younger voters said they would vote for Obama over Romney -- some 13 points less than Obama’s advantage among that demographic in 2008 against GOP standard bearer Sen. John McCain...

I don't know what gives pollsters the idea that “Walmart voters” are, or should be expected to be, conservative voters. Many, but not all of course, are non-white, young, low income, food-stamp-recipient types. Not a typical reservoir of conservative strength.

Romney has not sold himself to those people and he has got to do so very soon. These words sound like they are straight out of the MSM storyline. Do not fall into the trap.

I see things going Obama's way. Again.

You sound like a whiner. Stop it.

Wasn’t this posted yesterday or the day before and pretty much laughed off the forum?

Obama beating Romney among Nascar fans, LOL? So now they are specifically polling Nascar folks? Well, when are they going to poll Carolina Panthers fans? I want my chance!

Moochelle was booed at Nascar. Think about it.

I have to say that this makes me nervous. Romney better crush the Kenyan during the debates or the election is over.

One positive for me is that I was able to convince my m-in-law to see 2016 lst night. She voted for the Kenyan in 08 and was on the fence for this election. She was blown away, she said the guilt was over whelmng. She said her vote was based solely on the hype of making history. She was caught up in the idea that the One was going to end racism. She won’t make that mistake again.

The effect of the "2016" movie, related by anecdotes here, is that it is causing people to harbor a desire to vote against or not for BO.

This is good, but it isn't enough.

Romney has to give Americans a reason to vote FOR him.

They already have a reason - it's called Obama.

Zogby also had the worst prediction results of the 2008 election. Dead last.

You and those just like you are whistling past the grave yard. Zogby is showing what every other poll is showing. Romney should be crushing Obama and he’s not. Bottom line. You can bitch and moan about “special sauce” or weekend polls all you want but we all know it is BS. Romney’s behind right now. Even Rasmussen polls show Romney and several GOP Senate candidates in bad shape.

When even Rush is talking about voting just to vote against Obama, even he knows something’s amiss. He sees the reality that far too many on FR refuse to see until the morning after when you’re all crying and wondering how it happened.

I was on Zogby’s polling list for a few years, until my address changed. His questions got worse and worse until there was no way I could possibly answer truthfully, since all questions were completely rigged for a pre-determined leftistcrap outcome.

For that reason alone (what to speak of skewed demographics maybe), his polls are worse than goat dung.

Zogby tried to throw the 2004 election to Kerry by
falsely stating his exit polls showed a Kerry landslide on election day !

He should have been arrested !

***Romney has not sold himself to those people and he has got to do so very soon.***

I’m in a Blue State (and in a blue state) - so there are no Romney ads. Clearly, Romney is not a narcissist; he seems to be camera shy - or else he is working hard in the back room. I figure that is how he operates. Once he is given the authority to make decisions and lead a company - that is when he asserts himself and goes to work.
