Carter disagreed with delegates to his Democratic Party’s national convention who restored a platform position that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, saying the same thing happened when he was running for president in the 1970s and he made a public announcement in opposition to it. He said the best hope for peace in the Middle East is a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine with Jerusalem as a shared capital, adding “I personally think that’s a mistake for the Democratic and Republican parties to call for Jerusalem to be the capital just for the Jews.”
Carter did not discuss the heightened security at American embassies and consulates around the world following an attack this week that killed the U.S. ambassador in Libya, but he parted ways with President Obama on the question of whether Egypt is an American ally after Obama told an interviewer that “I don’t think that we would consider them an ally, but we don’t consider them an enemy” after protesters attacked the U.S. embassy in Cairo this week.

No one says Jerusalem should be the capital just for the Jews. Jerusalem should be the capital for anyone living in Israel, which includes what some call Palestine; regardless of their religion.

It means as much as Vinnie Antonelli saying in “My Blue Heaven” about his mobster friend’s mother’s eggplant parmesan: She puts capers in which I personally think is a mistake, and then they shot him with a .22. Richie loved to use 22s because the bullets are small and they don’t come out the other end like a 45, see, a 45 will blow a barn door out the back of your head and there’s a lot of dry cleaning involved, but a 22 will just rattle around like Pac-Man until you’re dead”.
And in that morbid way it’s amusing because Steve Martin impersonates a Long Island mobster better than any non New Yorker ever, better than some New Yorkers, though Michelle Pfeiffer does a great job in “Married to the Mob”.

They are not human rights violations; if anything, without approval of the country they fly in or through, they are a violation of international law (given Pakistan has allegedly and repeatedly stated that they have not given the US permission to use drones in Pakistan).
