Working from a beige house at the end of a dirt road, Jeff Bardin switches on a laptop, boots up a program that obscures his location, and pecks in a passkey to an Internet forum run by an Iraqi branch of al-Qaida.
Soon the screen displays battle flags and AK-47 rifles, plus palm-lined beaches to conjure up a martyr's paradise. "I do believe we are in," says Bardin, a stout, 54-year-old computer security consultant.
Barefoot in his bedroom, Bardin pretends to be a 20-something Canadian who wants to train in a militant camp in Pakistan. With a few keystrokes, he begins uploading an Arabic-language manual for hand-to-hand combat to the site.
"You have to look and smell like them," he explains. "You have to contribute to the cause so there's trust built."
Bardin, a former Air Force linguist who is fluent in Arabic, is part of a loose network of citizen "hacktivists" who secretly spy on al-Qaida and its allies. Using two dozen aliases, he has penetrated chat rooms, social networking accounts and other sites where extremists seek recruits and discuss sowing mayhem.

God Bless 'em....while our government searches and sniffs our stuff and pats down our junk at the airport.
Folks like thtt guy are the unsung heros in the terror fight.
Opps, mispell the word “that”.
Then again, the PSYOPS value of letting the recruiters out there know that they're being hunted has to throw them off their game a little.
And in a special way, when they vacation, do retreat, etc, that they really, really, keep a very low profile.
I wish I was smart enough to do something like this.

Not really a bad idea. For instance, if you want to use the Net to get a 13 year old girl in your house, I can tell you there is about a 75% chance you are emailing, conversing with a 36 year old cop. If you want to talk about killing your next door neighbor, the hit man you found on line is most definitely a Fed. This throws the Jihadis into turmoil so much that when recruiting members they always wonder. The reckless figure they can outsmart the authorities and then get easily caught. The cautious are slowed down. They spend time, money and effort verifying everyone they contact thus slowing down progress until another circumstance gets them caught.
BTTT !
Good morning Squantos.
Morning Everyone and All. May yesterday be the beginning of a stand which has to be made. Be Ready for Anything and Everything. Stay Safe. I’ll be willing to take the walk.
I get your point - but it still bothers me that;
“... in May, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton disclosed that an obscure State Department office called the Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications had hacked a Yemen-based website and replaced pro-al-Qaida graphics with banners showing scenes of Yemeni civilians who were killed in al-Qaida attacks.”
also - it is imho stupid and dangerous to give out where the guys works!
On balance, assuming AQ knows this is likely going on, I still wish they’d shut their mouths about it.
Understood. With this administration and the Global Government crowd, no good deed goes unpunished.
Thanks!
:)
Thank you, I’ll be here in Vegas all week. Try the roast beef.

The feds painted him as an religious fanatic who admired Osama Bin Laden and believed hed kill dozens of Chicagoans when he allegedly pressed a bomb detonator outside a downtown bar Friday night.
One small problem: What if the big boys think he’s for real and do a roundup? Proxy server redirects don’t fool them.
Second: What’s he going to do with that information he is collecting?
