Evolution of administration statements on Libya attack

The Obama administration's account of what may have happened in the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi last week has evolved by the day.

At first, officials were reluctant to say whether the strike that killed four Americans including the U.S. ambassador to Libya was premeditated. Top-ranking officials ranging from White House Press Secretary Jay Carney to U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice subsequently gave briefings and went on television to claim they had no evidence the strike was pre-planned. Carney and others then began to open the door to other possibilities, as accounts emerged that there could be an Al Qaeda connection.

After more than a week, Carney said Thursday it was "self evident" the strike was terrorism. He and others continue to stick by claims, though, that there's no evidence the attack was pre-planned.

The following is a look back at administration statements over the course of the past two weeks.

Sept. 12

Carney, at White House press briefing, asked whether the attack was premeditated: "It's too early for us to make that judgment. I think -- I know that this is being investigated, and we're working with the Libyan government to investigate the incident. So I would not want to speculate on that at this time."

Sept. 13

State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland, at briefing: "We are very cautious about drawing any conclusions with regard to who the perpetrators were, what their motivations were, whether it was premeditated, whether they had any external contacts, whether there was any link, until we have a chance to investigate along with the Libyans. So I know that's going to be frustrating for you, but we really want to make sure that we do this right and we don't jump to conclusions. That said, obviously, there are plenty...

The move is on to consolidate the Muslim world under the Muslim Brotherhood.

People still believe 0bama's foreign policy is simply bumbling and incompetence.

0bama has set Israel up the bomb...

Sept. 11, 2012

Netanyahu gets the cold shoulder.

U.S. has no right to block Israel on Iran: Netanyahu

The embassy in Cairo puts out an apology for a movie most of the rioters know nothing about.

0bama sends a letter to Tehran assuring them that the U.S. will do nothing to help Israel taking that off of the table removing a big worry for them that might have made them think twice. Iran is good to go now with 0bama's blessing.

The "movie" turns out to be a red herring excuse to cover for the rioters.

CNN: Protests against film a ‘diversion. Attack was planned’

Quite a day of unfortunate coincidences. Israel was rebuffed and there were signals being sent to the MB and Iran. 0bama is giving the "go ahead" to the Muslim world to take out Israel.

The spin doctors in this administration no longer have any credibility.

Whitewash!

fight the smears

Typical of this administration... three days warning ignored.
Weeks of briefings missed...

After the fact, manipulate the media and whitewash.

Now that is some good work....pulling those links together ....I think we have nearly all of the facts on what happened here on Free Republic....

But it is very scattered....

I get worn out from looking around and trying to get a keyword list going....

Lots of posters don't bother to add a keyword to what they post.

Thank you. I have tried to get people to use keywords but it seems to be wasted effort. There is a huge potential in FR software for archiving and networking through the keyword function but it is mostly ignored.

I spent an hour or two every morning for over a year putting a list of relevant keywords on the F&F threads. I quit doing it in July to tend to my garden and house.

This subject is a tough one to pick a keyword for. It ranges over a number of topics, events and locations. 'islam' seems to be being used fairly regularly. 'blindsheik' works for that aspect of it. Lots of threads go MIA for lack of any relevant keyword.

What keywords are you using for this subject? I’ve been using “embassyattack”. Is “benghazi” yours?

I haven't been entering any. Your choices sound good. There was also the riot in Cairo and at every other embassy in the world too which complicates things. I admit that I have gotten tired of spending time putting keywords in when it's obvious that so few do.

EatB is right, the OPs should be putting keywords in. Their threads will get more hits if they do.

I almost always add keywords to threads that I post, but I don’t know how to figure out which ones people who are actually keeping track of subjects would be looking for, except in the case of a few frequently-recurring topics.

I didn't even realize you were the OP for this thread. I wasn't directing my comments to you FWIW. Depending on the subject keywords tend to evolve in popularity. F&F began with 'gunwalker.' It was then known as 'gunrunner.' It took two or three months to become commonly known as 'fastandfurious.' 'banglist' was by far the most common keyword and alerted everyone interested in the 2nd Amend.

I added all those plus 'doj,' 'dea,' 'dhs,' 'obama,' 'holder,' 'fbi,' and 'atf' because they were all relevant. A little overkill but anyone checking those KWs would see those thread titles. I also added 'zapata,' 'jaimezapata,' 'terry' and 'brianterry' to any thread that mentioned either of them by name or by reference to fed agents being killed.

That subject was an exception in my mind that I thought needed maximum attention. Basically I try to think of a few words that others might use if they were trying to find an old article and could only remember something basic yet specific about it.
