Your analysis on this catch on the last play.
9-23-1979: Seattle@Denver, Denver won 37-34
This game was the fourth meeting of the Broncos and the Seahawks. Seattle had entered the league in 1976, but were placed in the NFC West Division. They moved to the AFC West in 1977, swapping places with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who had been placed in the AFC West in 1976. Denver had never lost to the Seahawks.
Seattle startled Denver by being quick out of the gates and building a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. A 27-yard Jim Turner field goal trimmed the deficit to 7, but the Seahawks answered with a touchdown to make it 17-3. Denver responded with a touchdown of their own, on a 2-yard run by Otis Armstrong. Seattle added a field goal before the half to make the score 20-10 going into the locker room. The Seahawks started the second half with the hot hand, adding two more touchdowns in the third quarter for a 34-17 lead. Then Denver’s Craig Morton went to work, throwing three third quarter touchdown passes — 2 yards to Dave Studdard on a tackle eligible play, 11 yards to Haven Moses, 35 yards to Rick Upchurch. This narrowed the Seattle lead to 34-31. The Broncos then scored on their first possession in the fourth quarter (a 1 yard run by Rob Lytle) to take a 37-34 lead. Denver fended off the Seahawks for the rest of the quarter to preserve the victory.

The play is never over if player is inbounds and not on the ground.You are thinking of plays when the player with ball goes out of bounds standing up. End zone is not out of bounds.
Since Jennings was not on the ground, play was alive. Jennings could have run all the way to Seattle’s end zone with the receiver in tow, and it would have been a GB touchdown.
Since the receiver (Tate) had his hand(s) on the ball when both players hit the ground, the receiver wins the call.

Thats the hard thing for people to understand. All that can be true and it still doesn’t matter as long as the receiver established even partial control prior to both of the defenders feet coming down. It doesn’t matter the defender got it first-It doesn’t matter the defender kept it in his hands all the way down-It doesn’t matter that he still was holding it after the play is dead-IF IF IF the receiver in any way got his hands on the ball before BOTH the defenders feet came down.

At :47 Tate clearly has his hands on the ball while both defenders feet are way up in the air. At :48 Tate can be seen pulling at the ball as the first foot of the defender lands. At :49 Tate can be seen arching his back trying to pull the ball out of the hands of the defender who’s other foot then finally lands. At THAT point it is IMHO a simultaneous catch and by rule the catch goes to the passing team.

You may be falsely assuming that possession requires both hands on the ball. Seattle receiver clearly has his hand on the ball which is enough to be called another possession.
If a receiver catches ball entirely with just one hand is brought down to the ground by the defender, does that mean the receiver had no possession? So long as the ball does not touch the ground, it is a possession, one handed or two handed.
All pass interference calls are subjective and the referee rules, not the fans.
One of the announcers said that the possession of the catch call on the field had to stand. It's not reviewable.
And it's possible the ref wasn't in position see the push in the back, or as others have said, they tend not to call interference on hail marys. Anyway, football is full of crybabies, no game is called perfectly, and it's all too easy to blame the refs during the lockout.
Look I understand you are a Steelers fan trying to work out frustrations from Super Bowl 45, but look at that photo. I’m not sure Tate’s “hand” is even on the ball. Looks like it is wrapped around Jennings neck.
No person in their right mind calls that a TD or thinks Tate had “possession” for the “tie to the offense” rule to come into play. Maybe Politifact rules it a TD, but that’s it.
NEWSFLASH. NFL has been a sham for years. Little to no effort by players to stay in bounds and big money bankrolling it. Fans get what they deserve. If you pay to go to these games then you’re getting ripped off. Gimme college ball anyday.
Oh Ya? Then why is it that the ref who came over and bent down called it a touchback? Then the other ref who was away from the play comes in and calls it a touchdown?
Then the question comes, Pete Carroll is down the field lobbying the refs for a touchdown. Those coaches are not allowed beyond a specific point on the field.
If the NFL had any amount of honor, they would come out tomorrow and call the game for Green Bay. Three infractions. The push off, the interception and the coach down the field lobbying the refs.

Unfortunately Football is being devolved into basketball. Hands on this, hands on that, he wasn’t really pushing off, yes he did touch him but he wasn’t elevated, his finger in his face didn’t really deflect the ball, etc. etc. etc.
Sadness for the game. And I am not a bitter loser/whiner. I’m a TEXANS fan, not for either team in this latest joke of a game.
I’m not giving up the game of Football, but the NFL sure has.

Both the receivers feet are down and he is grabbing at ball. We can argue many things but anyone who thinks at THIS moment in time (when both the defenders feet are in the air) that this is an interception..they are incorrect.
It’s not the league’s fault that the real ref’s refuse a pay raise and inferior replacement refs - who are hired BECAUSE of the real refs - make mistakes. If the refs had accepted the offer from the ONLY entity willing to pay them that amount of money for their services then we wouldn’t have threads like this one.
If you support the refs in this lockout then you need to check yourself. Honest compensation from owners to labor, at the market rate(!), is more important than the outcome of a football game.
If the employees of ANY other entity went on strike, and I had to pay a price in order to support management, I would; gladly. If football gets screwed up in order to put the refs in their place, so be it. The culture of thinking you run the show when you have no equity, or sweat equity, in the game needs to end.
Goodell needs to go air traffic controllers on them and say see ya later; enjoy ref-ing high school games.

Watch the video I linked above. The ref that bent down was the one who was away from the play. You can see him running all the way in from the other side of the end zone and his view was clearly blocked by the other Green Bay defender. The ref that made the correct touchdown call had a clear view of the catch.
First, in the end zone there was offense interference.
Green Bay wins.
Second, Jennings did intercept.
Green Bay wins.
Now, regarless of the above, if Jennings had of done his job and bat the ball away...Green Bay wins.
The same thing happend to my Titans when Ayers tried to basketball the hail mary instead of letting the secondary take care of it. He said he wanted to stop a touchdown but actually caused it. They gut lucky in OT.
Yes, the refs suck, but A LOT of this would be moot if the players were doing their jobs instead of trying to make Sports Centers highlight reel.
Rule 8 - Section 3 - Article 1 - Item 5: Simultaneous Catch. If a pass is caught simultaneously by two eligible opponents, and both players retain it, the ball belongs to the passers. It is not a simultaneous catch if a player gains control first and an opponent subsequently gains joint control. If the ball is muffed after simultaneous touching by two such players, all the players of the passing team become eligible to catch the loose ball.
I understand your argument about 'both feet down' on the defensive interceptor and one-hand catches.
However, that was not in any way joint control on the part of the intended receiver because Golden Tate did not A) simultaneously catch the ball regardless of Jennings being in mid-air and B) he did not retain it whereas Jennings retained the ball from the air to the ground, and finally, C) If Jennings hadn't have been present, Tate wouldn't have been credited with a touchdown by his own action alone. It would have been ruled incomplete.
In short, you can't merely touch the ball in the end zone as it's being picked off by a defender, then lose whatever slim retention you have with the ball and have it be ruled a touchdown. The ball is not like the magic imaginary plane of the end zone for rushers where any microscopic contact with it is ruled a scoring goal. The ball must remain controlled. Tate didn't accomplish that. That's the reason that sports professionals all over the nation are uniformly calling bullshit on this awful ruling.
However, your opinion is the one that ended up making the sports history books nevertheless. I will say that.
OH, BTW: I’m starting to think the coaches and players are doing stupid stuff to make the refs look bad.
They are professionals and know the game and the rules. How could Green Bay AND Seattle both think the game was over when a TOUCHDOWN, regardless of the clock, was called which means you HAVE to have a PAT.
You never know at that point, GB could have blocked it, picked it up and ran it back to win.
It’s all starting to smell.
Take a good long gander at post number 82 and tell me again who had the ball.
