A challenge to Barack Obamas eligibility to be president is forming within the Electoral College process, WND has confirmed.
James Grinols, one of 10 presidential electors chosen by the Republican Party of Minnesota, is asking GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan to provide Grinols legal counsel, Mario Apuzzo, with their paper, full form official certificate of birth with raised seal from the place of your birth.
[snip]
Grinols goal is to establish a standard in the Electoral College that each candidate for the presidency and vice presidency present to duly nominated electors of their parties an official long-form birth certificate to demonstrate that the candidates are qualified as natural born citizens, according to Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution.

Novel is right.
Standing? He’s not an elector unless his slate gets elected in November.
It's the electoral college that has the final determination as to whether or not a candidate meets the qualifications for office, and the reason individual people have no 'standing' in the courts to challenge the outcome.
How is it novel? These are documents that an overwhelming majority of people can provide upon request. Is it novel in the approach to validate the nominee?
If Romney wins Minnesota, then Obama will be lucky to win about eight other states.
It is novel in that this is the first time that we have seen this activity coming from an elector.
Most electors do not realize that, for a short time, they become an independent fourth branch of government - one that was purposely designed to keep elected officials from forming closed clubs that shut out voters. Usually an elector just assumes that his role is ceremonial and does nothing but cast a vote for his party’s candidate.
Grinols is showing that the electors have teeth and his approach is designed to show other electors how to use them.
In my opinion, that is novel.
Illegal, unjustified, chep political move, Birther nonsense and none of this matters anyway because just being an Elector doesn’t give a person “Standing”.
For over 200 years The Electoral College has been merely ceremonial, but I can’t help but believe that The Founding Fathers had more in mind. I sincerely believe it is the responsibility of The Electoral College to ensure that the candidates meet the qualifications set forth in The Constitution.
Yup, MN is a back breaker for Republicans ~ so this is the right place for an elector to challenge Obama on the credentials.
Hmm ~ an elector is the one who casts the ballot, so he’s got a right to be sure it’s for the right person. Seems to me every elector has “standing” ~ and there’s nothing anybody else can do about it.
We don't have many such offices, but by golly that's what these are.
Unless otherwise directed in the Constitution these guys don't even have to recognize the Judiciary or the Executive branches of government in exercising their office.
it’s the states that control who is on the ballot
yet they aren’t even requiring proof of US citizenship.
the states are committing election fraud if they aren’t checking
"Illegal, unjustified, chep [sic] political move, Birther nonsense and none of this matters anyway"...
???
Sorry, I forgot my sarcasm tag. I was channeling the NYT just for laughs. Of course an elector has standing by definition.
If the treatment of convention delegates by both parties is any indication, they’ll just ignore anything they don’t wamt to hear.
Time is shorter than we think.
With only few exceptions, where an elector voted for someone other than who he was pledged to, they have been no more than rubber stamps. I pray it doesn’t have to come to that, but there are far too many people who question Baraq 0bama’s aka Barry Soetoro’s eligibility. Heck, there is not even definitive proof he is even a citizen! The affects a lot of things, among them his standing as Commander in Chief. Since the congress, SCOTUS, various State Secretaries of State have failed to do their duty, I would really like to see The Electoral College examine the candidates before voting. This is one thing I fault Dick Cheney on when he presided.
Thanks! I was hoping that someone who has been active on FR for a couple of months longer than I have could not really be so far off the rails....
