China's First Carrier Pointed At Japan Over Senkakus
IBD EDITORIALS ^ | September 27, 2012

Far East: Wars have started over less weighty issues than the sovereignty of islands in the East China Sea called Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China.

They are barely rocks above water, but they sit atop valuable resources and are rapidly becoming a flash point as a rising power confronts one whose sun has set.

These islands have become involved in a three-way tug of war between China, Taiwan and Japan with each sending fishing boats, even armed vessels, to the area. Private boats from Japan recently journeyed to the Senkakus to plant the Japanese flag one more time.

The Senkaku Islands are not only rich fishing areas. They also have significant oil deposits vital to a China scouring the world for energy for its growing economy.

Possession of these uninhabited rocks would be the basis for declaring an exclusive economic zone around the islands.

I certainly hope the Chi-coms have perfected the carrier battle group, otherwise their brand spankin new carrier will be tilting toward the sky as she sinks to the bottom of the ocean.

What are they threatening to do, run it aground? Unless its being manned by Russians, it takes decades to master carrier operations from what understand.

If Chinese plastic is an indicator, I wouldn’t put too much faith in that Carrier, every glass or item in my home with Chinese plastic is fractured with hairline cracks, our politicians have replaced American and Japanese products with inferior junk, thanks Washington!

The issue of the Senkaku Islands has been bubbling away for 30 years but ONLY NOW does it bubble up fiercely.

It’s clearly designed to distract from some huge other (still) secret thing, which is probably a Mount Everest of DEBT.

It might make a great fish reef too. ;-)

"That aircarft carrier is a threat to no one but her crew."

An ex-navy relative of mine messaged me that his still active Navy Buddies wish to thank the Chi-coms for making a nice juicy live-fire target. They feel there is not much to shoot at now Russia's Military has been so decimated. (He tells me Russia is scuttling more ships then they are building these days.)

And apparently there are no aircraft capable of landing on a carrier. Not to mention pilots able to do so once there are. It’s for prestige, mostly.

Are these the same islands that Japan just bought back from private owners? That might have been the reason.

it is a navy cross waiting to happen.

also, I think they pulled the SSMs off it so it is not enen a really big cruiser right now.

“They also have significant oil deposits vital to a China scouring the world for energy for its growing economy.”

I say, it looks like Red China is acting the way Imperial Japan did in the years leading up to Pearl Harbor.

The new Chinese Carrier will not figure into this dispute at all for at least two, and probably closr to four years. They do not have the aircraft ready for it yet and will not have a full squadron ready for anouer 18-24 months...then they have to train.

So, right now, she will not come near such a disputed, potential combat area. she would be nothing but a big fat target.
