IMHO, early voting has gotten WAAAAAY out of hand.
Being given a month to vote is overkill - if something should happen to change your mind in the interim, TOO BAD. The deed is done.
I think that a voting weekend might be appropriate, plenty of time - and if you want to vote early for any reason, you have to vote absentee.
Either that, or having the option to change your early vote right up to Election Day ...
Any thoughts?
Only if it’s allowing fraud votes easier to be cast...........
It is not you. Early voting for convenience defeats the purpose of having an election day.
..it gives them a perfect excuse to discover 2 million “lost” votes for Odungo
We don’t need a while weekend. One day is enough. Unless you are legally forbidden from travelling back to your polling place, you should be on your honor to get back in time. Otherwise it doesn’t mean enough to you. If you are crippled by age or otherwise, get someone to help you. If you don’t, it doesn’t mean enough to you.
Absolutely...it’s a crock!
A voting weekend in the middle of football season? Which party do you think would be hurt by that?
boy, i’ll say. Just got back from voting in the 2016 election.
Could be worse. Could be Christmas music.
I like it, the sooner I get my absentee ballot the sooner I’m done. The election process is mostly annoying these days. Also when I like being able to vote at home, I can do my web research and put the results right on the ballot, no more “cribbing” my list to the polling place. I always hated having to figure out where they put my polling place this year, now it’s always my desk.
I see no real problem. I always vote early. Not a month but a week at least.
There is however a problem with absentee voting by mail. It should be abolished. There is way too much opportunity for fraud. The only exception should be the military or State Department types permanently out of the country.
It is totally wrong, and it is the window for fraud. That is why we have it. So the democrats can cheat.
As I remember it was not too long ago that there was no early voting other than absentee. And you used to have had a very good reason to do that. You had to be able to prove that you were not just using it as a substitute for going to the polls.
But now the American people are so dumbed down that they think it has always been the way it was. What have is a system that has been corrupted so that cheating can make a real difference.
We need to go back to the way it was. It was that way for good reason.
My own view is that we in the United States greatly over-emphasize the right of voting, and do absolutely nothing to promote the responsibility of voting.
We plan to vote early and often. :)
Early voting allows the count of Republican votes which is the ‘baseline’ for the ‘voters’ in Cook County to do their thing. ;)
Yes, the length of time is too long.
Some states are working on these things but if I could wave my magic wand...
* Purge the rolls of "Dead" voters.
* Purge the rolls of Felons.
* Purge the rolls of Snow-Birder's voting in 2 places.
* Purge the rolls of College Kids from trying to do the same as the snowbirds, they are easier to catch.
* Uniform, simple and fair system for our troops overseas, this has to come from the President down, Team Romney are you lurking?
* Check to make sure the Dem's are not abusing voting in nursing homes and care facilites of the mentally challenged, I hear they been doing this for years.
* Vote on one day, you have to show your ID and a statewide system lets everyone else in the state know you have voted and can't do it again.
The purpose of “Early voting” is to allow people to vote multiple fraudulently-registered identities over the course of the early-voting period without cutting into meth-cooking, midnight basketball or siesta.
I think it’s nuts. We haven’t even had the debates yet!
That said, people who are voting now are probably people whose votes are etched in concrete and would not change no matter what. Undecides are going to wait until all the information is in.
I know who I’m voting for and nothing either candidate says between now and November will change my mind, so I’d love to vote now and be done with it. Especially if it would magically stop the political phone calls that are coming in nonstop.
Voting hours to be the same for continental U.S. East votes early, west votes later by the clock, but all polls open & close at the same time.
You have to show up in person at the polls with photo ID. Accommodations made for infirmed, military, etc.
No sale of alcohol while polls are open. No reporting of votes or trends while polls are open. No exit polling.
Increase the number of polling places. This should be a “neighborhood” event. The poll workers at my voting place KNOW ME. Some of the people in line KNOW ME and I know them.
Increase the number of poll workers and watchers and PAY THEM (adequately not minimum wage).
Don't talk to me about cost! What is more important than credible fair elections?
Pass a Constitutional amendment if necessary. We MUST clean up our election process. We must eliminate fraud.
If you are in jail, you won't be able to show up at the polling place, EXACTLY! But they MIGHT be innocent. TS.
Hey Juan, what are you doing here, you're not a citizen!
This election day holiday sucks, I had to spend the whole day with my family discussing our political issues.
Hey Bill, my wife said she saw you here voting earlier when she voted. Why are you in line again?
Hey Sally, you don't live in this area, you're at the wrong polling place.
