The Washington Post's Hatchet Job on Paul Ryan
Real Clear Politics ^ | October 1, 2012 | Keith Hennessey

Today’s Washington Post contains an election-season hatchet job on Paul Ryan by reporter Lori Montgomery, “Amid debt crisis, Paul Ryan sat on the sidelines.” I would expect a story like this on the Newsweek or Huffington Postsites, but the Post purports to be nonpartisan and balanced.

Ms. Montgomery’s story offers two premises:

1. Mr. Ryan “sat on the sidelines” rather than act, and in doing so he failed to behave as a responsible legislator;

2. He would rather espouse conservative principles than engage in the messy business of bipartisan compromise.

Here is Ms. Montgomery’s core assertion:

But knowledge is not action. Over the past two years, as others labored to bring Democrats and Republicans together to tackle the nation’s $16 trillion debt, Ryan sat on the sidelines, glumly predicting their efforts were doomed to fail because they strayed too far from his own low-tax, small-government vision.

Vice President Ryan will take great pleasure in blackballing the Washington Post reporters for any questions for the next four years.

If it were me I’d revoke their damned White House credentials, period...them and a a whole cadre of others...

Bipartisan 'compromise' by the Pubbies has played a HUGE role in getting us in the financial mess we're in today. To liberals, "bipartisan" is doublespeak for "give me everything I want".

Ryan was too busy drawing up bipartisan support for his budget, his Medicare plan and his Medicaid plan to be bothered with that circus.

Frankly, I’d rather he had run that whole negotiation instead of Boehner, but in retrospect, I am glad he doesn’t have his finger prints on it. That was a terrible bill and total negotiation failure on our side. Yes, we stuck to our guns on taxes, etc, and I commend them for that, but they completely failed at communicating the right alternative vision, and signed on to that stupid super committee and ultimate defense cuts.

Ryan was clearly left out for a reason, and it was probably at the discretion of his Speaker, who he serves at the pleasure of as Budget Chair.

I know that I will get flamed for this but I don’t see how anyone but libs takes fishwraps like the WaPo, NYT, SanFranChronicle, etc., etc., seriously. All these rags do is underscore the political divide that the left has driven into this country.

Gone is the America that was the “world’s melting pot”. Gone is the America that stood strong and tall after 9/11. Gone is the America that defeated nazism, fascism, communism and oppression. What remains is an America divided against itself, an America that routinely snatches defeat from the jaws of victory by fighting politically correct wars - NOT WARS!!!

As much as I detest him, all of this can’t be laid at the feet of Obama. It belongs to the Congress, the WH and the SCOTUS. It belongs to crappy state legislatures, crappy governors, crappy mayors, crappy city managers, crappy city councils and so on. Parasites who cling to their elected or appointed positions do so because they can’t get a REAL job and are terrified of having to live in the mess they have made of Ametrica.

In about a month, we will go to the polls and re-elect ~90% or more of these people back to the same positions they have now - screwing America and Americans! And we will all look at each other and say that OUR guy isn’t the problem, YOUR guy is!! We’ll never be able to comprehend that ALL of the guys are the problem!!

And, thus, we will NEVER get the problem resolved. After all, football is back in season, the X-factor and Survivor are back on TV and the new season of American Idol is coming; there’s just too much for us to do to pay attention to what the people we hired to do our bidding and run our country are up to!

That’s what elections are - we HIRE employees to represent our wishes to the government; be it federal, state or local!! We OWN the government lock, stock and barrel. Every federal building, military base, car, tank, bullet, pencil and pen used by the government was purchased by us. The debt the fools in Congress, the state legislature or city council rack up is OUR debt!! And we OWE a boatload of money - primarily to China.

If this is the America you want, them keep on doing what you are doing. If you want to change the status quo, it begins with each of us changing what WE do!!

/rant
