Dem Heitkamp Pulls Even In North Dakota Senate Poll
By Sean Lengell - October 8, 2012
Democratic Heidi Heitkamp, once considered a long shot to win North Dakota's open Senate seat, is locked in a dead heat with GOP candidate Rep. Rick Berg, a new poll says.
The results of a Mason-Dixon survey released Monday afternoon show both candidates with 47 percent of the vote, with 6 percent undecided.
But Mrs. Heitkamp is "recognized favorably" by 46 percent of the respondents, compared with 42 percent for Mr. Berg. The Democrat's "unfavorable" rating of 35 percent is two percentage-points lower than her opponent.
A similar percent of voters have "neutral" opinions of the candidates; 20 percent for Mr. Berg and 18 percent for Mrs. Heitkamp.
The telephone survey of 625 likely voters has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 4 percent.

MY GUESS is a Democrat skew.
and berg isn't?
But FREEPERS have been so excited about all the Romney polls the whole weekend and today. Why are you spoiling the goodness. Are you saying all polls stink or just ones that don’t go our way?
Adults... it is less than worthless.

Any local commentary on this?
Take a look at the political history of North Dakota. They’ve flirted with socialism.
Correct, they’ve long elected Dem senators..who toe the liberal line once in DC..However, if these polls are toi be believed, given Obama’s unpopularity in ND, some 40% of voters would have to split their tickets..
Yes and as one who spent most of his life in North Dakota, the voters do in fact split their tickets. In 1984 Reagan
carried the state with something like 60-65% of the vote, but almost the entire ticket of state-wide Republican officeholders lost.
Regarding some of the comments such as ND’ers splitting their vote, toying with socialism, etc. All correct.
Socialism: My recollection of our history is that the Farmers Union got this going in the early 1900’s, there is even remnants of a commune in Minot. Farmers Union is now called CENEX (acronym for Central Exchange). Outright open socialism is gone today.
ND voting: The state held for many years with all democrat governor and Washington delegation. It’s slowly turning around with a change in demography. The state’s economy was primarily agriculture related, with many small farms that depended on subsidies doled out by rats. Farms are much larger now which means fewer farmers that are now better educated and business oriented. The oil boom is bringing into the state many people just happy to have a good paying job, and I really doubt if they will vote for obaminomics.
Hietkamp has openly lied in her campaign. She has a huge anchor tied to her neck called obama, so she has to pretend to be something she is not. She is advertising herself as an independent, when her adds plainly state they are paid for by the democrats. She’s a fraud, one of the key elements necessary in being a good democrat.
She’s an Ed Schultz grade democrat. Ed used to have a talk show here in ND and when he went national her brother Joel took the show over.
Berg adds say Heitkamp supports obamacare. I have never seen one of her adds where she refutes it.
ND voting GOP at the federal level has been only a recent event. Prior to 2010, the last time they voted for 2 out of 3 GOP officials was in 1978. Before that, not since the 1950s did they have the entire delegation (and those Republicans were NOT Conservatives).
I was just joking with you and being general in the post. Just fun time Tuesday.
