The media is trying to figure out how this happened.
How could Mitt Romney be blasting his way to the top of the polls after just one debate?
Would you like a very simple answer? Here it is: The media tried to tell America that Romney was one thing, while the debate showed them he was another. The difference between the two are seen in the poll numbers. It really is that simple.
For the last year or so the media created a template that reflected their opinion, not reality. Mitt Romney was a gaffe machine who didn't care about people and wasn't intelligent enough to reside within the blinding light of their Dear Leader.
The media has spent this time being dishonest to Americans about Mitt Romney.
I know Mitt Romney and have spent plenty of one-on-one time with him. As a sports reporter I covered the 2002 Olympics and saw first hand his ability to fix things. I had many friends who worked with him and they all came back with the same story. They were amazed at his ability to lead and succeed.
During my times with Romney I have seen him as very personable, approachable, and caring. Yes, caring. Everything the media has told us he is not.
I arrived late to a meeting a couple years ago with a handful of people in the room (yes, I arrived late for a meeting with Romney,) not to worry, with no chairs in the room, Romney quickly stood up and offered me his. A little thing---a personal thing---but it told me a lot about the man.

Romney has been appearing more and more Reagan-like, although it remains to be seen if he’ll govern that way. My personal opinion is he’ll be too busy in his first term, digging out from Obama’s mess, to spend much time on issues that may make conservatives uneasy. If he’s successful on the economic front, he’ll be unbeatable in 2016. That may be the worry point, but I’m not going to fret about things that haven’t even happened yet.
One thing is for sure: Romney is NOT Obama-lite.
The media is totally irresponsible. They deliberately held back the fact that their candidate had sympathies for the anti-Christian and anti-Jewish ideology from the middle east, that he said that he was born in Kenya, that he is an avid marxist.
I believe it is less about “America seeing the real Mitt Romney” and more about “America seeing the real Barack Hussein Obama”. For the first time since Obama appeared, the lapdog media, Obamunist handlers, and the entertainment industry cannot hide his incompetence, failures and stupidity. America is finding out that the Tea Party has been right after all. Obama IS an empty suit.
Yes, Romney did well in the debates. But that is not his big win.
His big win was the fact that for the first time the public got to see him unmediated. No middle men, no talking heads telling you what you are seeing and hearing.
That is the challenge every Repub faces, trying to get his message out through a hostile media that is an integral part of the opposing party. You spend millions on speaking tours that get reported in a 10 second video clip with the station doing a voice-over, telling the public in 10 words what you said “candidate Romney was in Buffalo today to talk about the economy...”... and thats it.
I actually think Obama’s debate performance was pretty good, all things considered. He has an indefensible record, he didn’t have his teleprompter, but he did pretty well. That wasn’t the nature of his loss. He didn’t lose because he did badly, the loss is simply the fact that Romney got to talk unmediated.
You know the press monkeys are scheming to make sure that doesn’t happen again.
Not to mention that they're also totally responsible.
We need to start kicking up a constant roar, blaming them for saddling us with Obama and everything he has done.
I was highly, highly skeptical of Mitt’s strategy of “Sit back, smile, don’t say anything stupid, and just wait for Obama to implode”.
But damn if it’s not working out for him.
I liken what we have been seeing here to a classic WW1 scenario where the trench of one side is shelled so completely for days, tearing up the ground until it looked like a moonscape. It was assumed that the destruction was so terrible that all you would have to do was simply walk across the field and take the trenches with ease.
What then happened was that the attacking troops found all of the barbwire was still intact and that the enemy was hidden safely underground along with their machine guns and at the proper moment were out mowing them down by the tens of thousands.
That’s what happened over the past few weeks. The Obama people, and the press bombarded Romney mercilessly for weeks in the hope that he would be so damaged that all Obama had to do was walk to reelection.
What Obama found instead was barbwire (the debate) and a machine gun (Romney).
First, Romney and campaign intentionally held on to their cash until voters were listening. They are getting more bang for their buck this way. I never second-guessed that strategic decision.
Second, there is a GREAT lawn sign here in Central NYState ...
2012: Obama vs. America
It captures the whole enchilada - supports conservative candidates up and down the ticket without mentioning a single one of them.
I'm wondering if that sign is anywhere else?
I personally believe it is a healthy dose of both. Romney is a lot stronger than most of us knew, obama is no more than most of us suspected.
Well, he can buy a lot of time by, for example (if he has a Senate majority) bringing up the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) and the ICC Treaty for ratification, recommending rejection, and getting a final rejection by the Senate just in time to start dealing with e.g. China's claims of ownership of territorial seas, meaning, including the water columns and seabeds both, something that might require a general fleet action to resolve permanently between China and her neighbors.
