VP Debate: Body Language Expert Sees Big Contrast
ABC News ^ | October 12, 2012 | By ABBY D. PHILLIP

If Vice President Joe Biden channeled his inner pit bull, Rep. Paul Ryan brought his inner puppy to the debate stage, according to facial expression expert Chris Kowal.

Kowal, an assistant professor at Purdue University, used computer software to analyze the facial expressions produced by the nearly 400 muscles in the human face during Biden and Ryan's face-off.

As Biden's big laughter took Twitter by storm, the computer model lit up with readings of frustration and discomfort—the emotions you might experience laughing at a funeral, Kowal said.

"It's not an uncommon reaction when people see something that really makes them uncomfortable, and frustrated… they might laugh at inappropriate moments," Kowal said. "It was that."

"When I watched him laugh, it was a clear sign that he was frustrated," Kowal added.

When Biden rejected Ryan's arguments as "a bunch of stuff" and "malarkey," the emotional ratings went off the charts.

"When he said malarkey—the passion leading up the comment, the passion and the intensity of emotion was really strong," Kowal said. "He was very angry, very disgusted…sad and all of these three emotions were all in the 'high intense' level."

I don’t normally watch O’Reilly, but maybe he’ll have his body language lady on tonight.

They had to pay an expert to figure that out? What a waste of money.

Biden looked like a smart aleck kid who thinks he has all the answers. However, what we really saw was the utter disdain all liberals have for conservatives. They regard all conservatives and average Americans as idiots, bumpkins clinging to their guns and religion and being unable to make the “right” decisions in their lives without liberal elites making those decisions for them. Biden obviously thought Ryan as a conservative couldn’t possibly know anything compared to the knowledge and sophistication he (Biden) has amassed by being in Congress for decades. To Biden anything Ryan said was a joke and couldn’t be taken seriously. However to many people Biden made an ass of himself.

Bullcrap. I’d wager all of Biden’s histrionics were affectations, not a response to being frustrated.

Yes he did...but MSNBC is not giving the orders. They are simply following them.

Biden got orders from the Head (as C.S. Lewis would say).

Biden is old enough to remember the old saying: It is better to keep your mouth shut and let the world think you are a fool then to open your mouth and prove you are one. He obviously does not believe it.

He was angry, disgusted and sad that his lies were being exposed for all to see.

I believe that when I see a Obama/Biden sign in a yard or bumpersticker on a car I read it as saying “Yes, I’m that damn stupid”.

Nah. He believes it. He just cannot imagine it applies to him.

Biden was trying to make up for the empty chair. But Biden could not get past his lies and covetous self. I was most appalled by his green eyed envy over productive people who create jobs. Isn't covetousness a bad sin in his religion?

This is what their base wanted.... I do think Biden over did it though - as expected.

I also believe Romney / Ryan knew he’d do it - in fact they said so. But really Ryan would have look like a young fool if he acted the way Biden did... so Ryan was great.

Conservatives aren’t smug and obnoxious - Libtards are. Joe played to his leftwing base and Ryan played to everyone else.... perfect.

Joe was a picture perfect example of why the democratic party can’t be expected to govern in today’s world. I hope the Romney continues to talk about bringing people together to govern - independents love that.

About all I saw was a young man prepared to engage, and an old man freaked out that he might have to.

Biden’s complete debate training consisted of three things.

1. Making absurd expressions on his face non stop for 90 minutes
2. Interrupting Ryan so he couldn’t get a complete string of two or more sentences out.
3. Saying over and over again, “That’s not true, when it was.”

The Obama team is desperate. Their whole political world is coming crashing down, and neither of them can take a chance on addressing factual comments from the other team.

They have to dismiss Romney and Ryan’s comments, because they can’t counter them on point.

We can expect the “That’s not true!” pattern to continue on Tuesday. I hope Romney cuts him off at the shoe laces.

O’Reilly’s body language expert (Tonya) was on WLSam this morning. Here are her main points: Biden had no gaffes. He was himself. The way he acted is his baseline..his normal behavior. He was dominant, powerful, and very passionate. He was able to get his points across. He may have seemed been rude to some people, but he got his message out. When he was smirking and smiling, he was acting as a father to the younger Ryan as if to say “come on you can’t really mean that.” Biden really believes in his stances.
To me she doesn’t sound very smart!

Congratulations to Paul Ryan for keeping his cool.

He took the advice of Napoleon Bonaparte: “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.”

Biden “really believes” that Palin brought up death panels in 2008 2 years BEFORE the Health Care bill was written?

If true, Biden is mentally unfit to be VP.

That the problem with the Leftists. Once they start recklessly lying, they have to keep lying to avoid the truth.

Really pathetic BOR buys this clown’s act.
