Erin DiMeglio, 17, made history as Florida's first female high school quarterback
A teenager who made history as Florida's first female, high school quarterback has been crowned Homecoming Queen. Erin DiMeglio, 17, received the honour last night at the Paladin Stadium in South Plantation, as her soccer team, the Paladins, secured a 18-0 victory over the Hollywood Hills. Instead of a dress, the sports enthusiast opted to wear her number 20 football kit for the halftime ceremony.
Talking about the accolade, Miss DiMeglio told the Sun Sentinel: 'It's really cool to be noticed as the homecoming queen and be a football player. I never thought I was going to win. This is crazy.' Her Paladins teammate, wide receiver Hordley Seide, was announced as Homecoming King.
After accepting a sash and tiara Miss DiMeglio added: 'To be with my teammate, I don't think it's ever happened before, a guy and a girl from the football team being king.'

Many boys could be in the same position. Hopefully the coach uses common sense in deciding where to put players, based on their size, strength, and skill.
Doesn’t the quarterback usually date the Homecoming Queen? This is confusing.
I don’t know in high school I could out play any of the guys on our high school team. But in those days no one would have voted for me to be homecoming anything.
I think college and pros would be too much mainly because the skill levels and speed is so great. But at the high school level ion some places a girl player doesn’t seem out of the question
When I lived in Georgia the local high school had a girl kick extra points. I suspect it was just a gimmick but she could kick extra points about as well as anyone.
She played soccer and was a striking beauty. I mean Miss America type beauty.
Hopefully she makes it through the rest of the season without injury
Jeeze,18-0 soccer score..that was a real cupcake game
The teen is a backup quarterback for the South Plantation High School Paladins, in Sunrise, Florida, near Ft. Lauderdale. She has been practicing with the team since May and was able to hold her own during the fourth quarter of the Paladins game on August 24, calling plays and completing two passes.
Now that I think about it, I think this girl’s Mother was a former Miss Georgia.
She didn’t play for the Armadillos tho.
I once saw a a list of the comparative strengths of grown girls and boys of the same weight.
Girls typically have less than 50% of the upper body strength, around 70% of the mid body strength, but surprisingly, around 90% of the lower body and leg strength.
Mmmmmm....Kathy Ireland, my favorite out of all the “super” models.
I can’t imagine those arms launching the ball 55 yards in the air.
She is the third string QB.
The legs don’t surprise me. I’ve worked in a gym and have seen some chicks push some weight. I almost never see a chick do a single pull up though.
Yep...thats pretty accurate of how I look when I think about Kathy Ireland.
She could kick Obama’s ass.... and she throws better.
Didn’t MST3K rip one of her movies? I think it was Aliens from LA or something like that.
honestly, she does not look like she could take a full-blown tackle. whoever’d do it would be looked at as the d1ck who crushed the girl qb.
utter pc ridiculousness.
Wow! You gotta get out more. Female athletes (gymnasts, pole vaulters) do pull-ups all the time.
Pound for pound, female gymnasts are some of the strongest people on the planet.
i’d doubt the 90% for most as f = ma, and their legs don’t weigh nearly what a guys’ legs weigh. they put too much “a” on it and they’ll be sporting broken bones.
What percentage of females at a gym are competitive gymnasts?
Rodney Dangerfield quip:
My High School? A tough place. Why the Homecoming King and Queen was the same guy.....
If you think female gymnasts are some of the strongest people on earth, for their weight, you need to do a little research.
I hate to crush all those girls ideas who think watching TV and movies is a good way to view the relative athletic abilities of men and women, but just compare World records for men and women in track and field.
Note you can’t compare them except in the same events where the distances and weights are the same. For example, men run the 110 meter high hurdles, while women run the 100 meter medium hurdles tho they still call them high.
Men throw a heavier shot and discus so those can’t be directly compared, but compare say the women’s world record in the 100 meters with the girls, then compare the typical state high school boys 100 meter times with women’s world record times.
I used to think girls did’nt have a lot of strength
For a short while I went with a hundred pound alcholic girl that
got mad at me and pushed me so hard I was thrown into the
wall in her apt. I got up and limped out the door never to return
When does the Sodomy start?..
The FUBARites are running the High School..
I used to manage Mitchell Hall at Lackland AFB.
One night an airman from Somoa, I want give his name, just all of a sudden punched a hole in the wall. After that he was calm, just said he was frustrated.
We had him arrested but I really sort of felt sorry for him. The APs carried him off but if he had wanted to he could have caused a lot of harm.
She was the quarterback?
Another empty kitchen...
You haven't heard about Crossfit women, haven't you. Crossfit women can do pullups, handstand pushups, bench press, and other upper body exercises, putting many, if not most, men to shame.
Annie Thorisdottir won the two last years. They are not remotely average.
She’s a basketball player that went out for the FLAG football team. The varsity coach watched her and ASKED her to play for the team. She didn’t sue, beg, cajole, or do anything other than show herself to be a good athlete.
Kudos to her.
At the “Y” gym this year I watched in utter awe as an attractive young lady went over to the pull-up bar and proceeded to do a dozen quick pull-ups.
Stood there with my jaw open for some time....found another guy and said, “DID YOU SEE THAT!?!? I’VE NEVER SEEN A FEMALE DO PULL-UPS IN MY LIFE - AND SHE DID A DOZEN!”
I suppose it could be true that you could out play the boys in your high school if they were carefully selected to be small, slow, and weak.
Let’s not get too far into fembot fantasy. The offensive line at the high school nearest us averages 290. I workout with the tight end, who is 280, 6’7”, and runs a 4.5 40. Ours is far from the best team in the district, and our district is nothing special. The only way that girl could avoid serious injury is if she isn’t played (which is essentially what happened) or if the boys still felt inhibitions about putting a hit on a girl
This was a PC gimmick.
You do realize that your response to the comment about pullups is irrelevant, don’t you? If you don’t, you might consider what a normal distribution is and how someone several standard deviations from the mean tells you nearly nothing that would allow you to compare the distributions o female and female upper body strength. And, in case you are wondering, male gymnasts are generally far stronger in the upper body than their female counterparts, even pound for pound. You don’t, for example, see the females doing iron crosses.
I just looked up the world record for the pole vault men’s and women’s. I guess you think the girls are just as good or maybe just a few inches less.
Well the actual difference is nearly 4 feet!
I bet if you asked 100 girls how close the men and women are in the pole vault, most would say about the same.
They have been told over and over again that girls can do anything men can do.
A saw, on Youtube, a 40+ year old female do 43 pullups. This is of course freakish. She was tiny with Olive Oil legs, and no T&A. Still extremely impressive.
When were you at Lackland AFB?
73 and part of 74. I was a civilian.
I was there a little bit later...2001.
I was looking for something in the attic of Mitchell Hall one day and noticed one of the silliest things I have ever seen.
Someone had spent some money at one time making a statue of Billy Mitchell except the artist made him look like and angel complete with the wings. I bet it is still up there.
Interesting. I’ll have to see if any of my buddies who are still in every TDY there. If they do I’ll make them check.
You win! What, I don’t know, but you win!
Nope that wasnit it at all. I grew up with brothers. I played as soon as I could walk....until the coach told my mom I was wearing out his team before the game.
I played a decent qb and was more than respectable at free safety....That said those were the days when girls didn’t play football, period.
I wasn’t referring to those kinds of schools who have lots and lots to select from. Not every town is large. Not every football team is comprised of behemoths.
The guys you sight I wouldn’t have wanted to play against.
I am long past my prime but I do think if someone wants to try out and get the job done ( no cheats by changing the requirements and no putting them on the team for curiosity) then go ahead. My guess is there are very few gals who would want to go out for the football team.
Absolutely true. Her story was initially written up about a month ago. According to her teammates, she can only play in circumstances that are safe for her, so she won't get hurt. So, in other words, they're going to extra trouble to humor this girl's whims. The game might suffer, but who cares---it's all about what she wants, right?
My advice to her would be stop fighting nature, and take off the helmet and put on the tiara.
And seriously, we don’t even have to go that far.
She could do plenty of things that both can do - archery, shooting, rock climbing. Stuff predominately that men do, but without having to invade an all-male team that is all-male for very good reason.
I agree. Unfortunately, some females are compelled to break into male-dominated areas so they can feel “equal.” Frankly, I’ve never understood it. “Different” does not mean “unequal.”
You have an excellent point. A woman that trains for years and reaches the pinnacle of human physical development has about the same strength as an average male with no training.
In over 20 years of taking the Army Physical Training test, I've never seen a female do more than about 20 pushups, (the average is around 10 I'd say, and they absolutely struggle just to do that.) Not once, in 20 years.
Your claim that there are women out there that put men to shame on the benchpress? Suuuuure.
From my 20+ years of experience watching males and females exercise and take physical fitness tests, women aren't just a little bit weaker than men, but dramatically so.
