Many TV commentators say you can judge the way the nation is feeling about itself and its times by looking at the sort of shows that are playing on television. They say our mood and outlook about both the present and the future can be understood through the collective programming on the TV. Well, a look at some of the popular shows now playing, or those about to debut on the boob tube, might make you wonder if TV has noticed that the country ain't feeling so great? In fact, its downright post-apocalyptic.

I haven’t watched a TV show since Home Improvement with Tim the Toolman. It seems everything in the 15 years is pure drek, ever since the low-brow, low-budget “reality” TV concept was invented.
I’ve had the Walking Dead on most of the day till the Tiger/Yankee game started.
Since TV became a mainstream form of entertainment, post-apocalyptic programs have been a money maker regardless the political atmosphere.
The earlier thread you posted was pulled by Admin-Mod as author, and content not wanted at Free Republic.
The author had a bit of a clash with the proprietor of this site awhile back, and was banned, and then wrote a really nasty column about the proprietor, and the site.
This one will probably get pulled as well.
Only one problem...if Obama meets his objective of a post-marginalized America, all other nations will militarily jockey for position and supremacy. If you remove the US and stability then we will see loads of wars and increased probability of nuclear exchanges thereby taking entertainment into reality.

Ow, my balls

Walking Dead Season Premiere tomorrow night! AMC please don’t disappoint me! (Don’t kill Lori!) <~ Me hoping for this will probably mean she’ll be the first to go. :(
And the Yankees are playing like The Walking Dead. They loaded the bases three times and then the virus hit! :( <~ (Me, you maybe not so much!)
Ping.
Thanks, I was unaware Breitbart was not welcome on FR
The stadium is awfully quiet for a post season game.
NO, NO, NO, NO, Warner Todd Huston is not welcome at FR. Breitbart is just fine.
I see. Well thanks again I was unaware of of any problem. I will try to refrain from posting his article in the future.

Breitbart or the author of the article Warner Todd Huston?
I said “author”. Warner Todd Huston. See my post #12.

Well, there’s still Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!
(although the latter has been leanin’ a little left lately...)
But then Vanna looks good no matter which way she leans!
Okay, thanks.

These shows are not new. I remember a made-for-TV movie WHERE HAVE ALL THE PEOPLE GONE? years ago about a man who took his kids camping. Then a sun flares hit and wiped out most people who turned to dust and washed away in the rains.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072400/
The father and teens are left to meet others who survived and learn to live together. The Moms are killed by the flare so they won’t get in the way of being a good story.
Another one was about a comet that does the same thing to most people leaving a few to survive, fight zombies and find a way to survive while the dead turn into dust and wash away in the rain again.
NIGHT OF THE COMET is such a film.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087799/
This film is remembered for the two girls killing zombies with mac-11 submachine pistols when the younger girl makes the mention that ..”Daddy would have given us UZIs!”
Go to “Uncommon Knowledge” and download the podcast of Pat Sajak’s interview. It is great!
Examples:
Day of The Triffids:
I Am Legend (the early one with Vincent Price killing the zombies)
The Omega Man (A take off of the I Am Legend story):
And there are more.
