Massive study finds only 3.4% of American adults identify as LGBT
Investor's Business Daily ^ | October 18, 2012 | ANDREW MALCOLM

A massive new survey published this morning reveals that only 3.4% of American adults publicly identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, with the highest percentage coming among the younger, less-educated non-whites.

The new Gallup Poll of more than 121,000 adults, the largest of its kind on record, wass conducted during the past four months. It finds the percentage of self-reported LGBT Americans to be much smaller than a general impression derived from their presence in popular culture and their perceived influence in liberal American politics.

The special report found 3.4% of adult Americans publicly reporting themselves as personally identifying with those categories, 92.2% saying they do not and 4.4% refusing to say or claiming not to know.

Given the stigma often attached by some to those categories, some unknown portion of the Didn't Say's and No's presumably are choosing to remain in the closet, holding down the LGBT number somewhat.

"This initial analysis," Gallup reports, "reveals new insights into the composition of the LGBT community in the U.S. In particular, the findings challenge both media and cultural stereotypes to reveal that the LGBT population is in a number of ways not that different from the broader U.S. population."

Gallup also found the social characteristics of those self-reporting themselves as LGBT is dramatically different from their portrayal in the media as largely white, well-educated and well-to-do.

The largest percentage (4.6%) came among blacks, followed by Asians (4.3%), Hispanics (4%) and non-Hispanic whites (3.2%).

Results showed that a larger percentage of women, especially younger women, reported themselves as LGBT (3.6%) compared to men (3.3%).

And Gallup reports those publicly asserting to be LGBT tend to be younger, less-educated and less wealthy than the rest of the population...

I suspect this number is still about two times too large. I wonder how many of these were teenage girls who have fallen for the Hollywood idea that it’s “cool” to be lesbian but who will end up following Mother Nature in the long run.

3.4% is an overstatement, 2% seems more accurate

The LGBT crowd is, by definition, confused to begin with so my guess is that some of the respondents who claimed to be perverts are not actually sexual perverts, but are... confused and uncertain. Plus, I bet that some of the respondents who claimed to be sexual perverts are merely confused sympathizers and/or Democrat activists.

I suspect the true percentage of sexual perverts is lower than 3.4%, and maybe considerably lower.

And they used it. One grooming technique used on hundreds of thousands of HS sophomores over decades by a “leadership training” seminar has been to ask the children to think of a number from one to ten. The speaker pauses and then states: “One in ten of you picked a number that number means you’re homosexual because one in ten of us is a homosexual.”

The kids go nuts and for the rest of the day ask, “What number is the gay number?”, frightened that thinking a number means they’re gay. This organization is riddled with Leftists and aggressive homosexuals. It targets leaders and the elite students who will become future leaders in America.

Actually, it is a description of our most vulnerable - cause and effect? We know that these are the people targeted in the sex trades.

From the article:

"As courts, legislatures, and voters continue to debate issues like marriage for same-sex couples, child-rearing rights for LGBT people, and bans on workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, these data provide new and detailed information about the lives of LGBT Americans and their families. They offer an unprecedented resource for informing those debates with facts rather than stereotype or anecdote."

NB: child-rearing rights - isn't that a right that derives solely from heterosexual relationships?

The poofs I know are “married”.

It's too bad, because outside of the whole “love dong” aspect, their pretty much moderate...big time 2A, for lower taxes, small business owners and usually for less government.

Drudge has a link to a report that has a link to the Gallup report. Maximum sampling error is < +/- 1%.

Two guys.

Were “married” in MA, but now live in a state that voted gay “marriage” down, so I don’t know what their status is (not that I care).

That 10% was a “jamming” initiative on the part of the left.
It was really hilarious that my libinlaw inserted it into a conversation as a complete non-sequitur to what we were talking about and everyone looked at her like she had 3 heads - “what the heck does that have to do with what we were talking about”.

I think there was a “directive” that went out from Sheeperal Central that you were to inject that into conversation whenever possible.

Everyone must always keep this in mind when discussing this topic -

To be absolutely blunt, “gay rights” is simply a cover for the left’s agenda of criminalizing Christianity.
The goal is to use the force of government to punish anyone for living/expressing Christian beliefs.

“younger, less-educated...” — they may be trying to say they are gay to “be cool”

I believe you, except a poll of two isnt very useful and as I admitted I know no-one personally who admits they are gay. Hell, its only 3.4% No wonder.
I cant conclude anything at this point.

They should be discouraged.

I do know blacks here in Maryland overwhelming favor O, but Maryland economy depends on Federal spending so O is generally popular here anyway especially with those with college education(>>50%)

I doubt 3% is the same % of those who volunteer for the military...

The study also shows that “LGBT Americans Tend to Have Lower Levels of Education AND Income.”

This explodes the myth put out by the gay community that they generally have better educations and high discretionary incomes.

RE :”Most of them don’t want to get married or join the army anyway right?”

They know what a great weapon it is to use. If you criticize or make jokes of gays then they will accuse you of attacking the troops and being against marriage.

I wouldn't be surprised if Obama is gay (bi) like that Newsweek cover said.
