Virginia Early Voting Tallies Show Trouble for Obama (Cook Political Report data)
Dave Wasserman of Cook Political Report | 10/24/12 | TonyInOhio

Posted on 10/24/2012 1:05:44 PM PDT by TonyInOhio

This is techinically a vanity post, but newsworthy, all the same. Dave Wasserman is one of the head number crunchers at Cook Political Report, and he has been tweeting results from Virigina's early voting period. The numbers look good for Romney and very, very bad for Obama. Here are a several of his tweets with the raw data:

VIRGINIA EARLY VOTE: Up 18.8% in the 86 localities McCain won in '08, but up ONLY 4.4% in the 48 Obama won: http://www.sbe.virginia.gov/sbe_csv/STATS/

Overall, early vote up 9.4% across the board in VA vs this point in '08, but this 14% disparity very troubling #s for @BarackObama

3 of 4 top DECREASES in VA early voting vs '08: 1) Richmond City (-16.8%) 3) Arlington County (-14.0%) 4) Charlottesville City (-10.5%)

In VA's McCain localities, early vote = 95,744 (vs 80,881 at this pt in '08). VA's Obama localities = 152,084 (vs 145,673 in '08)

Huge drop-offs in Richmond, Arlington & C'ville indicative of understandable (yet troubling for Ds) decline in Af-Am, yuppie & college vote

Do whatever your conscience dictates. In 2008 18% of the vote in VA was by absentee ballot, most of it in person. This year it will be much higher because Reps want to win and they are voting early absentee in person voting. The stakes are very high. The Constitution will become a meaningless scrap of paper if we have four more years of Obama and two or more new SCOTUS justices. We are in a vicious street fight with the fate of the nation in the balance. I want my vote to count even if I should die between now and election day. And I have not committed fraud.

And don't tell me or anyone reading this thread that there is no early in-person absentee balloting in VA. That is a bald faced lie and only helps the other side. Get informed and engaged.

I think Rs should take advantage of OFA’s offer of a ride to the polls, then go in and vote for Romey.

If you have a relative with dementia you need to see if they are registered. If that “nice nurse” or whatever is “helping them vote” you need to file charges.

I’m seeing this with some co-workers who were all excited about voting for Zero in 2008. They’re saying that they and their liberal friends are sitting this one out. Works for me. I’m guessing that they can’t bring themselves to vote for Romney, so they’re going to do it in their own way.

I was told by some that they cannot vote for Romney but won’t vote for Obama hence the third party votes.

Or sitting this one out, which is essentially a vote for Romney.

I can also attest that early voting is underway in Virginia. We have been scheduling poll watchers at the local Government Center, where the machines are in use.

It might be a bit confusing, because it is technically absentee voting in person (i.e. only supposed to be for folks who can’t make it on election day - travelling, working, etc,)

As a practical matter, even though you have to give a reason, it it easy to do, there are many reasons to choose from on the form, and nobody challenges any claim given.

In the past, I have made honest mistakes on this forum, and got called a liar, which really offended me. This is an area which is confusing enough to lead honest people to misunderstand or disagree unwittingly with those whom they agree with fundamentally.

So let’s share a little love, and get that vote out.

Obama Must Be Defeated!

Dear Wolfman,

I took the poll watcher training in Fairfax County, and one of the ladies attending had experience locally in supervising elections over several years. Her opinion was that it was more reliable to vote early on the machine as opposed to the paper ballot, because they can invalidate or “lose” the paper ballots.

The machines that they use in Fairfax (I don’t know if it is statewide) can print out a paper record of each vote, and the software coding is done locally, and verified by the Government (Virginia is an IT hotbed). She took part in verifying the machines prior to voting, and seemed very confident of their procedures and safeguards.

I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I feel something in the air. Its just too danged quiet out there. I know the rabble-rousing Democrats are making a lot of noise, but there’s just something in the atmosphere bubbling beneath the surface. Maybe its the Tea Party just walking softly and carrying a ballot????

There are many RR signs here in my area, but we are typically a red area anyway, but very few OB signs. Its just so eerie.

The leftmedia never explains itself or apologizes. It just changes the subject.

I’m sure by early voting they are talking about absentee ballots.

ow be aware, we are going to vote Romney but where is the GOTV for the R's?

Waiting anxiously for committed volunteers like you to show the F up in the local campaign office to go knock on doors, probably.

The good news is that the Obama campaign is so disorganized and chaotic there that they're doing the same job in the same Republican neighborhood at least twice. And remember, just because an Obama volunteer gives you a ride the the polls doesn't mean you have to vote for Obama.

My wife and I voted in Alexandria last night. We qualified for in-person absentee voting because both of us will be out of the state on 11/6/12. We filled out our ballots and actually fed them into the ballot box/scanning machine.

There are probably 15 different categories of excuses that will qualify one as eligible to do in person absentee voting.

It isn’t pure “early voting”, but many people are taking advantage of this system.
