Some District of Columbia leaders are disappointed that President Barack Obama hasn't been more of an advocate for local autonomy.

Obama carried Washington in 2008 with 92 percent of the vote, a high percentage even in the overwhelmingly Democratic city.

But four years later, the district's 618,000 residents still lack representation in Congress. And the city's budget and laws remain subject to congressional review.

The truth is....they were told four years ago that some position would occur with the administration siding over statehood. It was a backroom comment, but they all expected the President to eventually at least say he was for it. He never did.

The thing is....most states would agree to any status they wanted....except full-state status with two senators. They deserve the one representative...without any argument. They get tons of federal tax revenue for roads and bridges.....without any argument. The US government funds the local METRO without much argument. You just can’t give them two senators without having Texas come up and demand to split into sixteen states and each have their own two senators.

A Republican Congress is never to create three free seats for the Democratic Party.

That has about as much chance of ever happening as snow falling in Hawaii.

This is like Carter all over again.

I remember how Carter isolated himself from congress, and garnered no support. He got killed by Reagan.

Seems like history is repeating itself. That's ok with me!
