Petraeus Throws Obama Under the Bus
Weekly Standard ^ | 6:05 PM, OCT 26, 2012 | WILLIAM KRISTOL

Breaking news on Benghazi: the CIA spokesman, presumably at the direction of CIA director David Petraeus, has put out this statement: "No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate. ”

So who in the government did tell “anybody” not to help those in need? Someone decided not to send in military assets to help those Agency operators. Would the secretary of defense make such a decision on his own? No.

It would have been a presidential decision. There was presumably a rationale for such a decision. What was it? When and why—and based on whose counsel obtained in what meetings or conversations—did President Obama decide against sending in military assets to help the Americans in need?

No, they did not. It was a bloodless coupe.

However, I was speaking merely about the wave of outrage that is sweeping the nation. It will grow daily.

Watergate had a six month hiatus before anything started happening so this incident is more immediate.

It is also being propelled by strategic and timely leaks of intelligence so there are still some patriotic elements within the bureaucracies.

"COLIN POWELL: ... Not only am I not comfortable with what Governor Romney is proposing for his economic plan, I have concerns about...his views on foreign policy..."

I'm reading Colin Powell's autobiography "My American Journey" and a lot of his narrative is about being black. But, I still can't believe Powell's beliefs align with ObaMao in any fundamental way.

By his own account, Powell was inconvenienced by segregation in the south, but he is also a political animal who benefited from his color - being talented and in the right place at the right time. Powell networked with other blacks in order to promote based on the color of their skin (P.160 he joined a group called "the Rocks" - "A group of black officers in the Washington area had taken a leaf from the white power structure; with Bob Burk as their leader, they formed an old-boys network.").

Yes, Powell looked for competent, talented, patriotic people and he hated mediocrity - kudos for that! ObaMao does not fit that description.

The aircraft carrier task force commander in the Mediterranean was just fired, some Admiral whose name I didn't catch.

Is this another shoe dropping from the millipede?

“Yes, Powell looked for competent, talented, patriotic people and he hated mediocrity.”
Isn’t Colin Powell a poster boy for mediocrity?

I think those are reasoned points. The one touching on Republicans not refuting the claim is a good one. Of course these days, our Republicans aren’t exactly sharp as a tack either.

Your extrapolation at this point seems reasoned. I don’t think there’s much more to say at this time. You could be right on point.

I don’t have a particular interest in defending Petraeus beyond what is reasoned. On the other hand, I don’t want us eating our own because we’re rightfully angry at what is taking place related to the White House.

All I would say is, make sure what your source is. If it’s someone coming out from behind closed doors, be careful. If it’s direct testimony, he’s fair game.

My intention is to seek to prevent us from eating our own. If he is their own, go for it.

"There isn’t time for impeachment."

Is there time for indictment or grand jury?

Maybe you can't do that to a president but he seems to want to read Mirandas to the terrorists and to try them in regular courts rather than military tribunals.

Why should he hold himself to a difference.

Oh, that's right - he's Barack Hussein Obama - the stealth terrorist.

"Petraeus could have walked out the next day and told the world what happened."

He should have walked out that day and told the world what was happening - in real time!

He had 4 - 6 hours to become loud and public and he did not.

I am disappointed with and angry at Petraus.

He left people behind. How can anyone in the military not think he would do the same to them?

"Paging Buckhead!"

Yes, he did bring Dan Rather and his October surprise down.

Obama and his administration need to be brought down - on election day and beyond, until this debacle is completely aired out and Obama is brought to Justice.

Re your #319; Please be careful; this forum is almost certainly monitored by “IVAN”, who includes the Secret Service.

Although they obviously ignore all the thousands of tweets threatening to assassinate Gov. Romney, don’t count on them being quite so casual or having a sense of humor when it comes to us even joking about this stuff.

We don’t want you to wake up tomorrow morning and find yourself gone.

"People who are and have stepped forward are at risk of their lives."

On thread about Harry Reid accident, someone posted that the accident came at an interesting time and someone posted a picture of Vince Foster.

I don't know about all that, but a president and administration who would abandon the personnel at the consulate IN REAL TIME could do just about anything, I guess.

Thanks for your take on my comments. I appreciate it.

That previous post should have been more definitive. I didn’t read your CinC as CIC until after I responded. For some reason I read it as Cin C, and for some reason thought you were referencing someone other than the CIC. And BTW, that’s not to say CinC isn’t the best way to reference him.

I fully agree that the CIC made the call.

As to Petraeus, there’s no doubt in my mind that he would serve Romney well from the CIA. His rules of engagement in Afghanistan may have been dictated in part by the CIC or other military leaders at his direction. I do not agree with them.

I appreciate your comments. I agree with them as they relate to the subject at hand.

Voting this guy out is imperative.

I think you’re on target. I do have a bit of a problem with when things will be revealed. I expect them to be after Romney is elected. And that will reveal that the U. S. is ‘not expendable’ in the eyes of the electorate.

If your model plays out, the ‘expendable’ will definitely be on the table.

Here’s to hoping you’re wrong about that.

RE: “He had 4 - 6 hours to become loud and public and he did not.”

From what I just read on another topic, General Hamm only had about 30 seconds after he started to deploy his forces in defiance of the REMFs orders to stand down before he was “apprehended” and relieved of duty by his 2nd in Command. I don’t know if the flunkie (likely the assigned Political Officer) actually pulled a weapon on him but he might as well have.
Had the General tried to continue to command at that point, I have little doubt that he would have taken a bullet in the head for his trouble, and I’m sure he knew it.

Petraius knew what to expect had he stepped out of line, too. I suspect that all major officers have an Obama loyal trigger man beside or behind them at all times. I wonder if “our” officers are even allowed to load their sidearms (not that they wear them very often nowadays)?

Re #335; I know that, Mate; but I’d hate to have you having to explain it to the two buzz cut linebackers in black suits and dark glasses who might come to visit in their big black SUV early some morning.

They are not known for their sense of humor, and don’t forget who they currently work for.

This gives me chills, George Varnum; I had no heard or read this. This is America?

Obama and his administration are evil and incompetent. People have died "under their watch".

If he is not voted out of office, I will again ask - This is America?

"Isn’t Colin Powell a poster boy for mediocrity?"

Consider this is from his autobiography - his childhood and undergraduate (non-ROTC) accomplishments are admittedly mediocre, but he was tops in everything military - top or 2nd in almost every class / evaluation, with consistently higher opportunities that he demonstrated superior results.

He seems like a very solid, honorable guy, which is really hard to square with his support for ObaMao, unlike Allan West who has a very different view of what's best for American politics.
