Lynchburg, Virginia (CNN) — It was a simple swap of an "i" with an "o." And yet, a fresh gaffe from Vice President Joe Biden on Saturday caused the Romney campaign to essentially accuse him of being absent-minded and invited snickers from the Twitter-sphere. t happened at a campaign rally in Lynchburg.
The vice president opened his remarks to 1,500 people packed into an armory by praising Virginia's Democratic Senate nominee Tim Kaine.
"I want to tell you, it's good to be in a state that's going to be represented by Tim Kaine," Biden said. "What a guy! There is a decent honorable man. That man has more integrity in his little finger than most people have in their whole body."
Yet in the next breath, Tim Kaine became someone else.
"I'm a big Tom Kaine fan. A big Tom Kaine fan," Biden said.
Moments after the speech, the Romney campaign pounced.
"Vice President Biden forgot the name of his own Virginia Democratic Senate nominee and he wants voters to forget about President Obama's failed economic policies and lack of a real agenda for a second term," Romney spokesman Ryan Williams said in a statement to reporters.
"Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are offering real change for a real recovery, with 12 million new jobs, rising incomes and a stronger middle class," Williams added.

Probably a stray memory bit from the 1980s when Tom Kean (pronounced “cane”) was governor of NJ. Not that Biden would have been a big fan.

I live ten minutes outside Lynchburg; I watched coverage of this farce on my local news last night. Biden waved a binder around and yelled about “Romnesia.” That’s all they have at this point, and it’s pathetic.
I found it interesting that the news said there were no traffic snarl-ups to the point you’d hardly know the VP was visiting. Small attendance, perhaps? I saw a crowd estimate of 1500, and the news showed a long line, but it didn’t seem like all that many to me. Paul Ryan visited the area a couple of weeks ago, and his crowd was estimated as high as 3000.
What made me sick to the point of physical nausea was some of the people who went to see Biden. Of course there was a large number of blacks; that’s to be expected. But there were quite a few older and elderly whites.....folks who looked otherwise normal, nice middle-class people you would expect to have better sense. I can’t fathom what is WRONG with them. One old lady was breathless with excitement; she said she would walk miles to see Biden. GAH!
On a closing note, my left-leaning local paper, the News & Advance, endorsed Romney today. That is VERY surprising.
Biden’s dad did the same thing when he nicknamed him “Champ.” I or U....you decide.
Yep. Total setup. As I remember; the “mispelling” was actually listed the way Quayle said it somewhere in the room.
Quayle was actually trying to be polite and not make the student or teacher look bad.

Now now, Slow Joe is doing the best that he cane with pickled little grey cells. Alcohol has been more important to Joe than even his oath of office, for decades it would appear judging by the extent of the damamge his alcoholism has done.
Actually, he meant to say “Tim Kaine” in the first place. He corrected himself. ;-)
