McCain: Libya worst cover-up I've seen in my life

By SCOTT WONG | 10/28/12 11:19 AM EDT

Sen. John McCain said Sunday he was sure President Barack Obama would show leadership “in fine fashion” in response to Hurricane Sandy, but said his handling of the deadly Libya consulate attack was the worst “cover-up or incompetence” he had ever seen.

“This tragedy turned into a debacle and massive cover-up or massive incompetence is having an impact on the voters because of their view of commander in chief,” the Arizona Republican said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

“It is still the worst cover-up or incompetence I have ever observed in my life. ...” McCain added. "Somebody the other day said to me, 'Well, this is as bad as Watergate.' Nobody died in Watergate."

McCain and other Republicans, including GOP National Chairman Reince Priebus and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, pounced on the Obama administration during the Sunday talk shows after news reports came out over the weekend showing discrepancies between the White House and Defense Department over why reinforcements weren't sent to Libya after the attack on the U.S. consulate in Beghazi.

The attack killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said last week it was too dangerous to send troops into Libya after the U.S. compound came under attack. But White House officials said they had not denied requests from Americans in Benghazi for backup.

"Why after a cry for help to Leon Panetta and after the president gave a directive to protect those people … Panetta now claims he told the person to stand down," Priebus said on CNN's "State of the Union."

"Either the president didn’t give the directive or the president isn’t being truthful or perhaps Leon Panetta acted as commander in chief."

But McCain, you said we had nothing to fear from an Obama presidency -did you not?

He’s hitting Obama harder now than when he ran 4 years ago.

Actually I think the near-total media and political system complicity in suppressing Hussein’s eligibility issue led to Benghazi atrocity.

So they're saying there were no requests for help? Don't reporters know how to ask questions any more?

Yes, if McCain had been covering this up, nobody would suspect a thing.

McPain...You are still very naive. No it was NOT incompetent, it was a very well planned gun-running operation to Syrian much larger than Holder’s F & F, but two Navy Seals and other unexpectedly crossed their wicket ways!!!

He’ll find a way to protect his “friend”, Hillary, though.

“Hey, John, what was that about Obama being a good man and a good President again? Severe Fail on both observations. You should have put up a fight.”

Not to mention he has the utmost respect for Hillary Clinton.

No big mystery to me as to why Condi Rice gave very obvious cover to Obama and Hillary with her explanation of message traffic and all kinds of things going on, etc.

Obama is going to have a hard time explaining the 7 hours of his INACTION! The attack goes on and Obama goes to sleep and then goes to Las Vegas, while Bengazi burns.

American citizens should demand that the guy they arrested should be let out on bail before the election and testify.
Why should he be stuck in jail if someone were to post his bail ?

I disagree, because the media will go to McCain, when they won’t go to anyone else, and this scandal MUST be exposed to the American people!

I do believe at that point with Obama's inaction the Joint Chiefs of Staff was calling all the orders to " Stand Down " ... that's the guy now that needs to be asked some serious questions.
Gen. Dempsey ? what did you know and when did you know it ?

Who gave Skeletor permission to speak much less crawl out
of his rat hole? Who cares what his opinion is? The little
rat RINO needs to STFU and just go away. Being force fed
Romney is bad enough without having Mr.”I’m entitled to run
for president” McCain opening his yap.

Watergate seems to us a real big deal 40 years later but actually at the height of it, only about 50% of the voting public was following closely. When it became apparent that Nixon was going to be forced to resign, then everyone knew.

Maybe an email/mail/phone campaign to advertisers on the MSM for participating in a cover up. If the MSM aren’t giving the FULL report, their advertisers are in agreement with them with supporting them - thus a part of the cover up. This event took place 6+ weeks ago - is their job to report the news or sit on it to deny the public what is their business to know?

McCain’s 2008 campaign is historically significant, if for no other reason than being the first time in US history that a presidential candidate endorsed his opponent.
