Over the last six months or so, the Catholic Church in the United States has found itself in some tension with the executive branch of the federal government over a very grave issue: religious freedom. Can a government bureau, in this case the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), define for us or any faith community what is ministry and how it can be exercised? Can government also coerce the church to violate its conscience?
Obama had personally assured me that he would do nothing to impede the good work of the Church in health care, education, and charity, and that he considered the protection of conscience a sacred duty This has not been a fight of our choosing. We’d rather not be in it. We’d prefer to concentrate on the noble tasks of healing the sick, teaching our youth, and helping the poor, all now in jeopardy due to this bureaucratic intrusion into the internal life of the church. And we were doing all of those noble works rather well, I dare say, without these radical new mandates from the government. The Catholic Church in America has a long tradition of partnership with government and the wider community in the service of the sick, our children, our elders, and the poor at home and abroad. We’d sure rather be partnering than punching.

Obama didn't lie to Dolan at all. He simply told Dolan what he wanted to hear, and Dolan was content to use this "cover" to rationalize a cozy -- and unhealthy -- business relationship between Catholic organizations and government agencies that provides these organizations billions of dollars in financial support.
This is why so many faithful Catholics have walked away from their modernist hierarchy.
Obama tells you what you want to hear and then does what he wants to do.
Many people are not able to recognize such weasels. You would think after watching obama in action for four years, the Cardinal and his people would know you have to pin obama down, get it in writing, have the attorneys go over it, send out a press release, make him read a statement on TV, etc.
And, even then, he’ll find a loophole that he carefully installed and no one caught. He’s a professional agitator and he knows his work.
The way to deal with this problem is the ballot. Then, clean house. Get ALL of his people out. Clean out every remnant. Get rid of the Clinton people Bush let hang around. Fumigate. Start fresh. Get people working on all the zillions of obama regulations. Remove the ability of Departments to legislate. Start with the EPA.
Use education. Clearly tell the people what the constitutional problems are, tell them how they can be remedied, then do it. Fast and Furious. Use the “overload the system” tactics they used on the Constitution and the economy, but use it on the MSM so there are so many stories going on they can’t cover them all. Shock and awe.

You said it so well, it is worth repeating. Religious charity programs are competitors to the government programs which in turn, make for more Democrat voters.
Americans should know better than to trust “the government” with total power over their bodies via health care. The government is a machine; it has lacks brain, soul and heart needed to comprehend love, justice, wisdom and to keep promises.
That is why our founders gave us a weak central government that lacks the structural and legal ability to take such total power over our minds and bodies.
Disrespect for that wisdom of the founding ideals and constitutional construction of our country, in the name of wealth transfer for “social justice”, has ruined this country and it’s people. The downfall of religious freedom is tied directly to the church’s disrespect for the founding ideology of this nation in exchange for the “equal” poverty and oppression of socialism.
Couldn’t have the church bought a clue when they saw what the government did in taking over University education via student, grant and contract funding? All the Catholic universities have been culturally cleansed and brain washed by the socialists who control of the money.
Not even in 1973 after Roe v. Wade?
