MSNBC Ridicules Romney for Collecting Food and Supplies for Sandy Victims

This one is really hard to believe, even for the most biased so-called "news network" in the nation.

MSNBC on Tuesday totally trashed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney for collecting food and supplies at a storm rally event in Ohio to be sent to victims of Hurricane Sandy (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Link to Video at Source

After introducing his Obama-supporting guests Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Lehigh professor James Peterson, host Martin Bashir played a clip of the President speaking at the Red Cross headquarters in Washington Tuesday.

When the clip concluded, Bashir said, “Mayor Reed, so the Red Cross knows what it’s doing. Did he, did you detect perhaps a subtle dig there on Mr. Romney who spent today going against the guidelines established by the Red Cross and holding a campaign rally in Ohio that was dressed up like a charity drive collecting food and other supplies when the Red Cross expressly asked people not to do that?”

Imagine that. A presidential candidate who gives millions of dollars a year to charity does a storm relief event in Ohio, and an MSNBC anchor is disgusted by it because the Red Cross would prefer people donating cash.

Yet according to the Washington Post:

The stop was billed as a “storm relief” event, and attendees were asked to bring non-perishable foods and other items for those affected by the storm. Long white tables to one side of the cavernous James S. Trent Arena were piled high with flashlights, batteries, diapers, toothbrushes, mini-deodorants, fleece blankets, cereal, toilet paper and canned goods.

Two large TV screens at the front of the venue bore the logo of the American Red Cross and the message: “Sandy: Support the Relief Effort.

“The Red Cross prefers cash; yeah, we’ve all seen how much cash actually gets to those in need and how excruciatingly slow it is in getting there as well as the bureaucracy involved.”

I was thinking the same thing. Hard to skim cans of Pork&Beans...

The Red Cross is a pathetic organization, in my eyes. I have never donated to them, nor will I ever. I’ll never forgive them for the stories my grandfather told me about being in Europe during WWII and the Red Cross would come out with hot coffee and fresh donuts for the troops - they charged the troops for them. My grandfather would watch them, frozen from the cold, and couldn’t buy a hot coffee as his priorities were elsewhere, financially. Screw the Red Cross.

Yes, you know it is wrong of me to insult life forms on this planet that have actual functions, both worms and maggots have such.

These “human beings” who behaved in this manner today are without a doubt the lowest life form on this planet.

I am very glad that they are no where around me and that there is significant distance between us, because anything other than that may lead me to do something that I would most certainly not regret.

The left had a Hail Mary Pass Play pulled on them by Romney and MSNBC has its panties in a twist. What a laugh.

Romney scored BIG with Americans for what he did.

There are now very few doubts in Ohio about who should be the next president.

My mother hates them. When she was a child, her family was flooded out, and the Red Cross was there to help - and they passed out bills for everything they "gave" people.

Yes, the Salvation Army, I too was going to recommend giving to them.

My dad told me when he came back from the Korean War be was dropped off in a hanger. All he wanted was a cup of hot coffee.
In the hanger the Red Cross set up a welcome table. He went to get a cup of coffee that was set out in pots on the table. He was told it was for Officers only unless he paid for it.
A young woman who was sitting behind the Salvation Army’s table called over to him and said he was more then welcome to have their coffee and doughnuts. It was for everyone.

My father never forgot this and always donated to the Salvation Army when he could.

Screw the Red Cross.

Funny. I just posted a similar story my father told me about the Korean War. So it wasn’t just a fluke. The Red Cross did treat our troops like crap.

I worked with WWII vets in the VA system back in the seventies. I heard these accusations against the Red Cross back then. I was skeptical at first but eventually you get to the "where there's smoke there's fire" stage of acceptance.

I'm a "Sallie"(salvation army) man myself. I know they are the most efficient charity around, in cost to service ratio.

If Romney did absolutely nothing, just said a few words and kept on campaigning like it was business as usual, he would have been crucified for not showing that he cared. You just can’t win either way.

Same thing happened to my uncle who was in Korea as a paratrooper of the 101st. The Red Cross did the same thing to him. Because of that, him and my aunt were always angry at the Red Cross.

Here is the issue with the Red Cross you can't P!$$ canned goods away on salaries and pet projects. You actually have to give them away.

During the Korean war the Red Cross made soldiers sign IOU's for coffee and donuts. The Salvation army gave them away for free.

You can guess which charity my father always gave to and which one he never gave to.

This shameful ridicule of Romney’s gesture began
last night on MSNBC. While channel surfing, I had
the misfortune of bumping into Lawrence O’Donnell and his
3 panel members guffawing and smirking and deriding the
fact that Mitt was announcing this action for today in
Ohio. Could not change the channel fast enough!

And I echo those who support donating to the Salvation
Army over the Red Cross.
