Richard Mourdock--the Indiana Republican Senate candidate who sparked a controversy during a debate last month when he said he opposes abortion even in the case of rape because "it is something that God intended to happen"--is now trailing Democrat Joe Donnelly by 11 points, a new state poll shows. According to the Howey/DePauw Indiana Battleground Poll released on Friday, Donnelly leads Mourdock 47 percent to 36 percent among likely voters.

This is the state of this country now, election by soundbite. They lay in wait for some soundbite that can be echoed 1,000 times a day then they run with it.

And America pays the price.

Mourdock and Akin, two dumb sh!ts who don’t know what not to say. I hope they both win, because we dearly need those seats. But if they loose, it’s on them for stupid statements that I am at a loss as to know why they were spoken in the first place. Are these two religious nuts?

I’m very dubious on this poll. Indiana is going R bigtime this election. The energy here is excellent. Not pro-Romney energy but anti-Democrat energy.

The leftwingtard interviewers ~ Priebus should have been making sure advisors were available to these guy's campaign staff to instruct them how to deal with leftwingtards.

He didn't.

We'll need to get rid of him before he strikes again.

Not pro-Romney energy but anti-Democrat energy.

I think that's the way it is around most of the country. I'm not seeing much in the way of Romney/Ryan signs but I am seeing a lot of pro republican downticket signs.

unweighted polling data ~ if it was a random sample poll there was no need to weight it.

I'm surprised the pollster admits jiggering the data, but there you have it.

You are right. When the interviewer asks anything about rape, pregnancy, birth control, fallopian tubes, etc; the correct response is “The national debt is bad for women. The budget deficit is cruel punishment for children.”

“There you go again”, “Wheres the beef?” and “I won’t use my opponents youth and inexperience against him” were all soundbytes that helped influence elections some 30 years ago.

So this is nothing new to American politics.

The great man, and exceptional President who uttered those lines was blessed with the lack of complete poligical tone deafness being exhibited by the likes of Akin and Mourdock. I think Akin has, miraculously, recovered to the point of actually being able to pull off a win. Mourdock I dont know about. But the fact is that even if they win their paths to victory were needlessly difficult, resulting from self inflicted wounds.

Anyone else notice how Yahoo will almost always have at least 2-3 pro 0bama stories and 1-2 anti Romney stories on its front page? When you click the stories to read the comments, the comments are usually anti 0bama and pro Romney.

From the Washington Times:

-snip-

"Mr. Mourdock's campaign countered Friday morning by releasing its own internal numbers from pollster John McLaughlin showing him ahead by 2 points, 46 percent to 44 percent.

"The Democrats have nothing else to point to but smears and distortions, because they certainly can't tout their own record," said Mourdock campaign spokesman Christopher Conner.

That poll of 600 likely voters, conducted from Oct. 31-Nov. 1, has a margin of error of 4 percentage points. The party breakdown is 41 percent Republican, 34 percent Democrat and 21 percent independent."

-end snip-

He brought it on himself. It’s a shame the GOP will lose a seat they could have easily won, but no sympathy for him.

Whoa there, Sport! You can’t blame Mourdock and Akin.

Don’t you know that conservatives never screw up?

You have to blame the media and the RINOs for this! /sarc
