The news is not being reported becuase of the election and the possibiklty of another storm.
News Blackout on what really happened on Staten Island.

The media has already feted Obama and Chris Christie, with Obama in command of the situation. Now the media has moved on. They do not want to subject Obama to the same standards to which they held Bush during Katrina. That much is obvious.

It would be more to the point to say:

The media is so used to their over-hyped pre-news being wrong that they think nothing really happened.
It’s not news because NYC and NYState are fullycapable of handling the situation.
Bodies of the deceased have been found every few hours, and have been reported by local NYC media almost instantly, they are tagged and bagged and brought to properly functioning morgues for proper post mortems.
So unlike prior similar mass casualty events elsewhere,
there has been no delay long enough to get the media howling in getting search and rescue teams from outside jurisdictions into the area,
NYC already has more media people on the ground than any other location in N. America and possibly the world.
Names of the deceased are not mentioned in the media until next of kin are notified in NYC,
Street beat reporters do not usually put out more than a blurb until the next of kin are notified or police/coroner office ask for publicity to find known relations for identification.
Plenty of people die in NYC without making the news, from all types of reasons, every hour of every day.
I’ll give my opinion as to why there is not the type of coverage there was during Katrina.
Have you compared the racial demographics between New Orleans prior to Katrina versus Staten Islands demographics? I’ll give you a hint....they are polar opposite of each other.
Probably wrong....just a hunch.
It’s worse. Most of the dead are middle class whites in the only two Republican congressional districts in the city. You do the math.
