There are two tracks here. Patraeus was told to follow the tape story. Good soldiers follow orders. Meanwhile, he was the one who said, quite clearly, the CIA did not tell anyone to stand down. That is one side.
The FBI had been investigating who was leaking to the press, probably at the direct orders of his excellency and if not by Jarrett. Note, the FBI was conducting a review of the origin of info Broadwell had, so, the question was where did it come from. It did not take those gumshoes long to put two and two together and know it came from Patraeus BUT originally they thought it was her stealing them from him. The only thing I don’t know or cannot piece together was how the FBI knew the info went from Broadwell to Fox. All they knew was it got to Fox and had to come from someone high up. Perhaps they had taps through the secret court in DC or used the NSA to monitor internet traffic. Who knows. But know that the trail went from Broadwell to Patraeus, not visa versa.

It doesn’t.
It merely means that Petreus will not be testifying as CIA chief next week, as was originally planned. The interim director will do that in his place.
There is nothing, as far as I know, to keep Petreus from testifying as a private citizen with knowledge of the issue. Or Congress could subpoena him.

Where to channel all this !@#$%^&; rage?
Living well is the best revenge! That and never giving up. They want us to be crying in a corner somewhere as long as we stay out of their way. We have 2014 to work on and then 2016 - excellent places to channel rage!

Haven’t read all the posts so perhaps this has been answered. Generally its the enlisted guys that get hammered for adultery, but could Patraeus be recalled to active duty and court martialed if the adultery occurred while he was on active duty?

Or the complete neglect of the attack on the base in afghanistan that was carried out by terrorists in US uniform and wiped out several aircraft and US personnel.

Am still thinking threats are coming from somewhere. Blackmail, cover story. Affair, cover story. Blue Dress (different time), cover story. Of course there have never been threats issued by powerful people while a cover up was used to cover up. D.C. powerful people wouldn’t dare utilize layers to cover up a cover up nor threaten anyone. It wouldn’t be civil.

I think so, wasn’t there a recent demonstration of that where some other General got nailed for molestation and or other inappropriate behavior with women?

So, giving information to our press is treasonous? What are you saying about our press? Receiving classified information and publishing it seems to be allowed under the first amendment.
But yes, most would consider it treasonous in spirit if not legally.

{פ} 27 And when the mourning was past, David sent and took her home to his house, and she became his wife, and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD. {P} We cannot wish such men to be. They are either are, or not. Such was a man in George Washington. Temptation is ever present . Those that are able to resist are forever loved and revered by those that are unable to be. We need to find such men or women to lead our country, and they are out there.

"I am a bit surprised this didnt get picked up on his vetting for the CIA position. I thought all senior government officials got vetted by the FBI. ... It either means they didnt vet him, or he mislead them during the vetting process." You can bet dollars to donuts it was in his vet report. And that it was in a report by other intel groups.
Info dumping to the public is all about timing.
The dump is designed for maximum effectiveness.
This info has been setting and gaining heat.
This is a definite hit on Petraeus and his probable future...which is next to the round file now.

oldbrowser: "I think Paula was leaking info to the newspapers regarding the Benghazi fiasco and Obama had the FBI backtrack the leaker and that's how they found out about her. Patraeus was then offered a choice between being arrested for treason or copping to the phony affair and retiring."
Thats the best explanation I have heard so far!

Man my Hebrew is rusty, but I think that last says something more literally like “it was a bad word, what David did, in the eyes of the LORD.” (LORD is the tetragrammaton, the special covenant name of God to the Hebrews.)
