States petition to secede from union

They don't want to take their country back. They just want to leave it behind.

As the dust settles in the wake of President Obama's decisive reelection last Tuesday, the White House petition website has been flooded by a series of secession requests, with malcontents from New Jersey to North Dakota submitting petitions to allow their states to withdraw from the union.

Most of the petitions submitted thus far have come from solidly conservative states, including most of the Deep South and reliably separatist Texas. But a handful come from the heart of blue America - relatively progressive enclaves like Oregon and New York.

All told, petitions have been filed on behalf of 20 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

Many of the petitions invoke the Declaration of Independence's dramatic assertion that "Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government."

I wonder if my county can secede from the rest of Florida? That alone would work.

I agree with a lot of things that Ron Paul spoke of during the campaign. There are like 15 states (organisations) that are petitioning for secession from the union but not the states themselves. I’m waiting for the state legislatures to band together with like states to leave the union.

I like that word better than the anarchists do. Or Occupy Wall St for that matter. Are they still alive? Oh, that's right, they and the muslim brotherhood are in the White House with Trumpka and Hoffa.

Unless the State Legislatures do something, and this condition is something everyone calling themselves a Conservative should know, this means nothing and makes Conservatives look like the loons the media portrays them to be....

This is just stupid!

If a state wants to succeed, they just do it! They don’t go on to a website and do a silly petition.

IF... A petition is to be directed anywhere, it needs to be to state legislators and governors!!

This is NOT states petitioning. The White House has a site where anyone at all can start a petition, and Obama has pledged to look at the ones that get a certain number of signatures.

So I could put up a petition to require that all White House meals be vegan, and if lots and lots of people sign on, Obama looks at it.

These are citizens starting their own petitions and they are not binding on the states.

Exactly.
Just do something rebellious like raise your Speed Limit to 95 and wait for the Fed to say you can’t or they will withhold your funds.
Say OK, and withhold the states funds to the Fed, recall your National Guard, Senators, Congressman (though a lot of states might want to leave the bloodsuckers and leeches where they are).

Then see who blinks first...when one appears to be ‘ahead’, others will follow so you can expect the Fed to act swiftly.

Thank you. Seems as if these petitioners don’t care at all about the bloody or final sacrifices of our U.S. military Veterans, to protect our American freedoms and way of life, our unity, and our willingness to stand against the tyrants who threaten them. So says the Declaration of Independence, so is denied by these petitioners.
