Maybe these people are convinced the larger GOP project can be saved simply by caving on just this one issue. That seems cracked. The bulk of the Hispanic electorate appears to instinctively vote Democratic, and not just because of immigration. (“[T]his is just a fairly liberal voting block.”) Maybe they can be wooed over to the Republican side over the course of decades. But by then there will be another wave of new, instinctively Democratic illegal immigrants (lured by the Boehner Amnesty) for Dems to appeal to. And the idea that the GOPs don’t have to change any of their other ideas if only they appease this one ethnic group (making up 10% of the electorate) is highly questionable, as David Frum has argued. … There were plenty of other reasons why Romney lost. (If he’d gotten McCain’s share of the Latino vote … he still would have lost.)
The larger point is that “Comprehensive Immigration Reform”–which is supposed to be a simultaneous combination of an amnesty plus enforcement measures–is a terrible idea. It’s a terrible idea if it helps the Republican Party win national elections or if it hurts them..** As with the 1986 “comprehensive” reform, we will get the amnesty but not the enforcement–after the ACLU and Chamber of Commerce are through undermining it in the courts, and the Obama Justice Department is through undermining it in practice. The result will be (as in 1986) a new wave of illegal immigrants, largely unskilled, who will bid down the wages of the Americans and legal immigrants at the bottom of the labor market.

Arthurio, all of those conditions will be challenged in the NInth Circuit and struck down. You do realize this? Then we’re stuck with the immigrants and none of the conditions. The courts won’t let us revoke amnesty, and neither would the Democrats.

Because countries like Mexico have governments that don’t even provide basic security to their people, making the prospect of cradle-to-grave care in the USA even more attractive. Illegals do not need to be “won over”. They need to be DEPORTED. If they want a better life, here’s an idea. Get into Mexican politics, begin a populist movement, and try and clean up your crappy country so that people WANT to live there. Instead of breaking the law to achieve the ‘American dream’, why not try to build the ‘Mexican dream’?

Seriously, you either are not being serious or you have been brainwashed a bit somewhere along the line. Do you really see Republicans as looking for cheap labor but not the same for Democrats or Democratic businessmen? Are you really sure about that? Do you not think that folks running a business do not look for labor expenses as a major part of their job? Don’t you actually think that politics has very little to do with it?
Let me tell you a secret..heh. All businesses try to reduce labor costs and moving overseas is a tried and true remedy. Why - well, just look around at the labor union costs. Could that be a problem?
Actually, you are one of the few that at least come out and identify yourself without understanding the problem (yes, that means you are a bit uneducated - certainly in the field of finance). Not a great thing but at least you had the courage to state your case. It was certainly not presented with any authority but you did at least have the conviction to put it in the public arena. Now you have to live with it!

They would take that and then once they’re all in, they would find a judge to opine that it is an unconstitutional violation of their civil rights to deny them the franchise, and Chief Justice Roberts will agree!

All employers must pay illegal workers the going union pay scales and provide all benefits and health insurance.

Well, Add another condition, if for any reason any section of this law is stuck down, all illegal immigrants citizenship and work visas are revoked.
