What business is it of any of us or his supervisors in Congress that David Petraeus had an affair?
The former general was forced to resign as director of the CIA after the FBI discovered that he had been romantically involved with his biographer Paula Broadwell for four years. Adultery may not be agreeable to many in our increasingly moralising climate, but we should leave judgment and punishment to those on whom his acts directly impact: his wife of 38 years and his family. His personal dalliances (or as he diplomatically called them in his apology, his "mistakes") are not a matter for public concern. His position was not to serve as a role model. His role as director of the CIA was to provide direction for collecting, evaluating and correlating national intelligence for the US. There is no prerequisite for a squeaky-clean lifestyle behind the public scenes.
Yes, he occupied a public post. But he has a right to a private life, private interests and private judgment calls. Yes, the affair came to light during an investigation by the FBI into a potential security breach, but the investigation concluded there was no breach and the "classified information" that Broadwell allegedly came into contact with is not thought to have come from Petraeus.
Sure, it wasn't wise of him to grant his paramour access to his personal Gmail account (apparently so they could send messages to each other). But this should be of no concern to us other than amusement at the results of his naive trust in his mistress. She went on to use it to send catty "back off" messages to another woman she suspected was a love rival. She should have known better. Drama is the last thing any high-profile married lover wants in his mistress.

Wasnt Clinton being questioned about Chinese money donations, or something like that, when the Lewinsky scandal came out? The British paper responded with the same silly Americans attitude as well. This is a ruse, they know Americans will forgive an affair. You have to admit nobody is talking about the Americans who were tortured and killed in another 9/11 terrorist attack. Obama is touting his glorious foreign policy achievement again. They are very good at propaganda and deceit.
the author is completely and totally wrong.
If the Secret Service and Chiefs of intelligence can be made to break their vows to their spouses, their oaths to their service and their moral obligations in the service, then they are subject to and risk being subverted by spies and blackmail.
It’s sad but, that’s the reality of it.
It would be fine if it never came out but, this administration was looking for a distraction and Patraeus’ dalliance provided it, making him a scapegoat for something he had nothing to do with.
What we’re all overlooking is that Petraeus’ affair is symbolic of a long-term decline in the moral character of leadership in America. 50 years ago, a four-star caught up in such a tawdry affair would be unthinkable. Maybe a civlian politician like JFK, but not a leader of men, a field-grade officer in charge of the nation’s most vital secrets.
And then there’s the image of America he gives to the Muslim world, if that matters.
He didn’t have a concubine for a mistress - he had someone else’s wife.
American wives are whores, and American men have no honor.
“What business is it of any of us or his supervisors in Congress that David Petraeus had an affair?”
That’s right...it is just a “bump” in the road. Let’s all move on until the next terrorist attack. (Or some hot Russian spy chick checks in at the Kremlin.)
What could possibly go wrong? bwahahahahaha!!
Immediately the story of David, Bathsheba and Uriah the Hittite, a valiant man of the army and her husband came to mind. David tried to cover up for committing adultery and conceiving a child with Bathsheba by calling Uriah her husband home from battle so that he would sleep with his wife, and then the child born would be thought to be his. The only problem with this plan was that Uriah wouldn't go along with going in unto his wife and sleeping with her while The ark, Israel and Judah abided in tents and his commander Joab and the other soldiers of Israel slept on the open ground. He is a striking contrast to the thinking of these leaders.
2Samuel 11:8 And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess [of meat] from the king.
11:9 But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.
11:10 And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Camest thou not from [thy] journey? why [then] didst thou not go down unto thine house?
11:11 And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? [as] thou livest, and [as] thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.
absurd
Or murdered by the mob. Case in point: JFK nailing Marilyn Monroe and any other woman walking within 25 feet of him. How about blackmail opportunities by Monica against Clinton or Ike by his driver?
Get serious. Most men are involved in affairs (not me - ever - though) but only Republicans get into trouble.
His first mistake was to work for the Comrade in Chief.
“And then theres the image of America he gives to the Muslim world, if that matters.

BINGO! You win the door prize. And I’m equally, if not more concerned, about the image that the spread same-sex “marriage” within the Fruited Plain has on our image in the Muslim world. If that doesn’t paint a giant bulls-eye on our back, I don’t know what does.
With apologies to the few good Brits still on the old sod, whenever I read amoral bs like this from the pos Brits, a couple of thoughts run through my mind.
1. My ancestors didn’t kill enough redcoats in our Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.
2. Maybe we rescued the gene pool of these ungrateful Brits too early in WWII.
Oh what a tangled web we weave, when once we practice to deceive. - King David committed adultery, then felt he had figured out the perfect plan to cover him for the pregnancy of his mistress; when his “plan” didn’t work, he felt he had to concoct a worse plan (the murder of an honorable man) to “fix” it. - I fear another David of our time is caught in a similar vise.
