I believe he was the voice-over. I do not know who the puppeteer(s) was or were.

One could wish that this would be the end of the Children’s Television Workshop, but that cannot be allowed to happen.

So, instead, we will just normalize the predatory practices of Chickenhawks, and accept them as part of life’s rich pageant.

You’d think this would have gotten the church authorities’ attention, if the Roman Catholic church, as they would still consider this living in sin.

Ya got it, and to think that Mitt Romney wanted to throw him, with Big Bird, out in the private cold!

No joke...You can probably google it....The proposal was within the last couple of years...and probably also before that. One of those you just keep trying until you win....like gay marriage.

Yes, that is their goal. And they are well on their well.

You have to give the perverts credit for their advertising prowess. Here in Maryland, homosexual “marriage” was just approved by the electorate. Now, most of them are not perverts, but they just wanted to be “fair”, which is the argument that the sodomist lobby used.

Unfortunately, included in the legions of “decent” people who just wanted to be “fair” to the perverts are my children, the parents of my 3 grandsons. They are clueless about the ultimate goal of the depraved, and they just don’t see the agenda of pansexualism that will come to fruition after all of this incrementalism. God help us all...

You’d think this would have gotten the church authorities’ attention, if the Roman Catholic church, as they would still consider this living in sin.

Most of the boys over the years kept the secret, confused with guilt on their own part.

There were a couple of accusations, but those were a case of "he said/he said" with (barely) adults. He was transferred between parishes and started up all over again. Eventually, he was made a monseigneur.

Then a group of his victims came forward with a lawsuit charging him with a pattern of grooming his victims over decades. Finally, everybody saw exactly what he was up to. He lost the lawsuit but was never charged criminally. He was prohibited from all priestly activities and farmed out to some old priest home somewhere away from the faithful.

His name is Peter Cheplic. I know all three of the victims mentioned in the article. I went to Catholic school in his parish for nine years.

Cheplic and I were sort of open enemies. He didn't like me and I didn't like him. He (somewhat correctly) thought I was a troublemaker and a wiseass. He targeted quieter kids who were easily manipulated. I remember really thinking him to be a total surly arrogant asshole, and felt a little guilty for holding a priest in such contempt when I was a kid. I now know he was even worse than I thought.

Kevin Clash is both the puppeteer and voice of Elmo. He also created Elmo’s personality, developing him as a innocent young child.

This is indeed disgusting to the max. I don’t think it’s any secret that the Catholic hierarchy is slow and overcautious to a huge fault — even devout Catholics have told me so. (I do not hide my bias as a fundie, not a Catholic.) And when the hierarchy hears about this sort of thing it hems and haws for a long time before lumbering into action. I wonder how the Pope puts up with it, sometimes, after hearing of something where it would be so fitting if the Pope himself paid a visit and personally kicked so-and-so, like the priest you are talking about, out of the church that he is wreaking havoc in. Yet tradition uber alles would of course forbid that. I know it must make God very angry that this is going on in His name.

Good summary in your post.

Let me just add some random thoughts:

1. This Clash guy is a very talented puppeteer and he fulfilled a lifelong dream through hard work and God given talent. This is not about him personally.
2. Sesame Street jumped the shark with Elmo. Even the guys who wrote the “Jump the Shark” book agree with me. Until Elmo the Sesame Street characters when I was growing up had an edge. Oscar was mean and territorial, Cookie Monster was glutinous, Bert and Ernie were adversarial, the Count was semi scary. Elmo was gay before we even knew who had his hand up his ass. Come on.

Which goes right into your point about the risk of gubmint funding public broadcasting. It becomes a means to indoctrination. They turned the Cookie Monster into the asparagus eating cookie is a sometime food monster. The STATE needs to fight the scourge of “childhood obesity”.

3. If it were disclosed that the voice of Elmo donated money to conservative causes and candidates, smoked cigarettes and owned a gun, PBS would have fired him on the spot.
