Time to Let the Country Crash?
American Thinker ^ | 11/14/12 | Ebben Raves

"Let it crash!" "Give them what they want and they'll see what happens!" "Surely, once the left's programs are implemented and the economy crashes, people will come to their senses."

Since the election, many on the right have echoed this meme. They are convinced that widespread poverty and lack of opportunity will bring a resurgence of the America many of them knew growing up. Grandma and Grandpa's America.

Perhaps these people forget that Roosevelt was re-elected three times during a depression that he helped prolong -- a depression that featured soup lines and starvation in a population that actually wanted to work for a living and went on relief only as a last resort, and then with a sense of shame.

Thanks to food stamps, EBT cards, and other entitlements, Barack Obama actually had an easier time. He just had to threaten that the evil rich would take away flat-screens and "crazy money" to get enough votes. Imagine if people were really hungry.

Roosevelt and the Great Depression is only a mild example of what happens during severe economic stress. Think about Germany during the Weimar Republic hyperinflation. What did that give the world? Look at Argentina, at one time in the twentieth century more prosperous than the United States. Cristina Fernandez easily won re-election after she nationalized retirement accounts. Do you really think that no one views your 401(k) as unfair? What could be fairer than making sure it is kept protected from the greedy Wall Street bankers? Look at what is happening in Greece, with a quazi-Nazi party gaining ground. Look at France, who elected a socialist government to solve problems caused by socialism.

He will. People, generally, won’t. What goes around usually comes around, and people know where the buck stops.

No. I'm a let it burn guy not out of hope for restoration. I'm a let it burn guy because their will be no restoration. Leave these people to their own devices. Besides, why would I care? I have nothing in common with them.

I agree with you, but the question is, then, what do we do?

I hear keep fighting (really? with amnesty coming and all the third-worlders brought into the country?), secede (cannot happen due to so many dependent on a check from Uncle Sam in every state), so is the answer leaving? Yes, I know, some people think that is cutting and running, but was it running when people left Europe many years ago to come to America for a chance at freedom? If leaving the US is the only realistic option, then where to go?

I’m just throwing these options out there, because I am as perplexed and dismayed as everyone else. I would like to hear all suggestions for what to do next, but please keep them grounded in what is realistically possible.

yep, maybe they can all vote “present” or “abstain” instead of yes/no. Just like obummer did when he briefly served in the senate...

"Surely, once the left's programs are implemented and the economy crashes, people will come to their senses."

“oh, shiite, we OWN it now!”

The sad part is that the MACHINE that will soon be created by Obama and Company WANT to own it. When the private sector steps out of the job creation business, that vacuum will be filled.

In the words of a great American hero, "LET'S ROLL"!

I despise communists, they should be wiped out where ever they are found.

“...Let the arguing begin!...”
Well, there’s really no argument at this point because it’s coming and there is nothing any of us can do to stop it. So when (not if) it collapses, the whole gut-wrenching debacle needs to be hung around the neck of the RAT party for next hundred years. It will be much worse than Greece when it hits here. IF you haven’t already, prepare yourselves accordingly.

Without an obstructionist GOP bogeyman to point to, Obama would have real serious problems.

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was from a former boss:

“Sometimes you have to get out of the way and just let the sh*t hit the fan. And make sure you don't help clean up.”

I've done that on a micro-scale to weed cretins out of my life; I suspect it works well on a macro-scale as well.

At some point an "accelerant" to the crash will be introduced, either voluntarily from Mordor or involuntarily from outside the US.

No need for the GOP to participate in any way, shape, or form. If Soetoro wants it, simply vote "NO!"

"Surely, once the left's programs are implemented and the economy crashes, people will come to their senses."

I seriously doubt that people would come to their senses, even if the economy crashed. The lady with the Obamaphone (and millions like her) would blame the greedy rich, or anybody but the current Administration.

Sometimes a strategic withdrawal is the more prudent idea than continuing direct contact with no plan, that does nothing more than waste lives and materiel.

The only issue we should fight to the death for is repudiation of any amnesty for illegal immigrants. Anything else can be rectified in the future.

Anyone who thinks we can system restore back to some past version of America is smoking crack. The only reasonable course of action is to prepare for post-crash America.

Until conservatives by the millions take their children from public schools NOW, no matter how wonderful THEIR kid's school is, nothing will ever change.

Grandma and Grandpa who went through the depression knew how to take care of themselves. My father had a near-”Grapes of Wrath” upbringing, except his family didn’t move to California. My grandfather, who is a hero of mine, tried every which way to earn a living and support his family. He worked various jobs. He ran a small coal mine. He bought a truck and delivered livestock to the East St. Louis stockyards. He hunted and fished. He rented farmland and sold whatever foodstuffs the family didn’t need. Grandma knew how to can fruits and vegetables and smoke or salt meat. Finally, in about 1948, Grandpa was able to buy a farm and give the family some security. The farm remained in the family for 40 years. Grandma and Grandpa never once cast a vote for FDR.
