Alan Parsons Project: “Don’t Answer Me”

Parsons did every disk with a different set of sidemen, and this disk was done in the style of Phil Spector. The video is pure comic book pop-art.

Must retire – an early call awaits me in the morning! No weekends at Castle MacNessa! We are at 100%, 24/7!

The Bugler, his grim visage replete with an evil sneer, already mounts the parapet.

Do poor Tom some charity, whom the foul fiend vexes!

Good night, God bless you, and God bless the United States of America!

Godspeed our Troops around the Globe – especially those in harm’s way – by virtue of their service and sacrifice we continue to live in Freedom!

Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

Billy Joel: “Uptown Girl”

I never thought I’d live long enough to see the music of the Four Seasons treated as satire. This song is far more sophisticated than anything the Seasons ever did. Watch the key changes: E to C to A, then back to E.

Parsons pretty much used the same people: Ian Bairnson on guitar (one of the most critically underrated guitarists IMHO), David Paton on bass, and Andrew Powell was the main orchestral arranger, and of course the late, great Eric Woolfson. He would rotate in different singers on the albums, but the core musicians were there pretty much throughout.

I’m partial to videos with some imagination. These ladies are easy on the eyes.

Actually the core of the APP was from the band “Pilot” most famous for their 70’s hit, “It’s Magic”, which I believe Parsons produced.

Foreigner: “I Want to Know What Love Is”

It was the top selling single of 1985, and the video is anything but simple and straightforward. The moment where the gospel choir takes over is sheer bliss.
