I don't know if he will cave. We'll see. But I do know he didn't cave last time:
I wish someone could find and post the vid of Boner standing behind the speakers during the Tea Party rally on the Cap Steps during the Health Care debate. I watched him and was utterly disgusted. He kept looking from side-to-side...licked his lips....and acted as though he had a plane to catch (as if mocking what was being said at the podium). I will NEVER forget it. Made my blood boil.
So why is trying to unite for a fight a stupid thing?
It is not even remotely possible to win against the even stronger forces who will push a bad bill with the same notion as TARP: pass this or the economy gets killed. For those who say we need a R leader who will scream and fight, consider what Obama's media will say about the R party voting to crash the economy.
But there is the possibility of a negotiating strategy that would cause the D senate to cave when we get to the cliff. They are much more beholden to their corporate sponsors who lose large bonuses if we go over. Ideally, we want to go over the cliff and make them come crawling to us for a deal. One way to do that is to carefully consider all concrete legislation but hold the line on spending cuts and reform. I would not be pontificating about taxes when the media juggernaut will plainly win on that issue. Pick one or two winning issues and try to win the vote to kill the bad bill. Then maybe we'll get a better bill.
Just sounds to me like Boehner is working more closely with conservatives.
Which makes sense since there are more of them than before.
well the first question is: “Which side of the fight is he going to fight for?”
If he is going to fight for conservative principles....why are conservative members being pushed to the back of the bus?
As a fellow 98er can you say with a straight face that you believe, in light of Bohner and the GOP’s history of running in circles with their hair on fire, while simultaneously blaming conservatives for the blaze, that he/they will unite behind anything you or I want?
Half the GOP ‘stalwart’ govs are already making capitualtion noises on Obamacare, Boh himself already threw the towel in.
Congress holds the purse. Period. Bohner could have defunded Obama’s insanity at any time. Period.
He has not. Period.
But for every thing he stands tall on, he gives twice as much away. Now tell me how that is either leadership or a winning strategy. Tell me if thats what you want in a ‘Republican’. Because if after all these years you do, you are in the wrong place.
Well it's not war. These guys like to dramatize routine crap like this. Boehner is just doing what all House leaders do. Nothing new. Nothing radical. If conservative House members can not stand up to Boehner and replace him then they sure as hell can't stand up to democrats.
Look at the states represented by the House leadership - Ohio, VA, WA. Did any of those states vote for Romney? Hell no. Romney was from MA FCOL! Nothing against those blue & purple States specifically but why aren't House members in the Red States revolting against these assholes? It is easy to just make scapegoats out of idiots like Boehner but the problem is much wider and deeper.
Cantor last week delivered the speech nominating Boehner to be Speaker while Boehner nominated the Virginia Republican for majority leader.

Boehner's bringing Ryan on to the negotiating team. Ryan now serves as budget Chair and will continue in that vital role.
How is this pushing conservatives to the back of the bus?
The upcoming fight (taxes, spending, continued government expansion) will be very difficult but we have a chance with a strategy that, in part, plays to the media. There is no question the media will side with Obama, but we should not make it easy for them by making it a personal vendetta against the election results. An angry bitter sounding leader (like some here seem to want) would be rather useless against Obama who will try to look the opposite with help from the media.
Boehner has no challenge as Speaker.
The truth is, he is widely respected among House members. Although the MSM will never tell you that.

[Boehner] moved to crush any organized conservative opposition through the Republican Study Committee by helping install Steve Scalise as chairman. Scalise has committed to working closely with leadership at a time when leadership has committed to banishing conservatives from all levers of power.
When you step back and reflect on these hardball tactics of the Speaker, it is tough to overlook the irony behind his ultimate motivation. Boehner is employing scorch-the-earth tactics against conservatives……so he can have free rein in capitulating to Democrats on a laundry list of policy items.
Boehner and the GOP are as much, if not a more pressing danger to Conservatives and Conservatism than anything Obama and the Marxist Democrats pose to us.
If Conservatives do not divorce themselves from the GOP, this Ruling Class cabal in league with Obama and the Marxists will render Conservatism extinct. THAT is their apparent goal. Boehner and Obama share a common enemy: Conservatives.
So they are waging political war to marginalize, punish and otherwise make it impossible for Conservatives to have a voice in what goes in in D.C.
Last time we didn't get tax hikes. I think that is what you and I want.
We may not get it all. But we will get some of what we want.
I still don't know why you think trying to get unity for negotiations is a stupid thing.

I note you ignored the fact that he has not exercized his authority to shut Obama down.
I also note you ignore everything he gave away. And we are about to lose that temp reprive on taxes. In case you haven’t noticed.

How do you explain the breathtaking stupidity of the “debt deal” Boner DID go along with?
I can't follow that logic, but let me ask you this: what is your plan? A third party for conservatives? If so, then oppose Boehner and split the conservatives away from the RINO party. We won't have enough power now to win anything, but it won't matter when the economy finally succumbs to the massive federal debt, tax increases, Obamacare, etc. At that point we will win elections with conservatives only nominally part of the R party if at all.
Another possibility is that you want to conservatize the R party but basically keep it. We will lose to the Obama media juggernaut now, and uncertain what would happen in the long run.
I can't I have any better plan, I would like to keep the R/RINO party as unified as possible while swapping out RINOs in the primaries as much as possible. I also want to try to keep the worst of Obama's legislation from passing and I can't think of any other way than relying on RINOs.
This remains to be seen. If all taxes go up because the Speaker refuses to raise them on the rich (we go over the cliff), many conservatives would view this as not compromising and a good thing.
