As Barack Obama and many others never tire of telling us, part of the American Dream is that anyone can grow up to be president.
That's not exactly true, of course. It takes smarts and charisma, ambition and ego, money and key allies, and quite a bit of luck to get anywhere close to the White House.
Still, we're not supposed to have political royalty in our democracy, born of a revolution against the British king.
So it made me cringe to see the story on the front page of Friday's New York Times, also published in The Bee, about supporters already talking up Jeb Bush as a potential presidential contender in 2016. That would be the former Florida governor who is the son of George H.W. Bush, our 41st president, and brother of George W. Bush, our 43rd.

Let the votes of the republic decide. I couldn’t care less if it was relatives of the same family or not. I care what they stand for. For me the first two Bushes were problematic, big-government types. For THAT reason, I wouldn’t want to see another.
His son, George P. is photogenic and thinking about political office.
I'd vote for him.
These same people who claim to oppose nepotism, if some cases push Hillary Clinton for president. Hillary’s only qualification is being married to Bill. For that, we are supposed to make her president, but we’re never supposed to consider any other political family relatives???
And what about the numerous Kennedys who have been in political office? Because they are liberal, that’s okay???
It isn’t? What about the First Ladies offices, expenses and salaries?
Foon Rhee? That first name didn’t accidentally substitute the letter “n” for “l” by any chance . . . ?
looks like this post has drawn the BushBots out tonight

you ought to read the article all the way through. he goes on to oppose Hillary too
I don’t care anymore.
I am so sick and tired of being sick and tired.
Whatever.....
I posted the Newsmax article about the possibility of Jeb Bush in 2016 and got 99 percent responses rejecting the notion. Guess when a liberal attacks the democratic process and falsely calls it monarchical dynasties, the perspective alters somewhat.

Yep! And for that very reason......I WILL NOT vote for another Bush. They are poison. If that is what is planned for the next election......count me out.
If Mitt can get the grudging votes of most Freepers, Jeb Bush would be a cake walk.
The Schiavo scandal, however, bids fair to attack Jeb from both sides. Those who felt he went too far, and those who felt he did not go far enough. This could make his base suffer badly.
Foon is a fool and needs to look up in the dictionary the word ‘nepotism’. No, we won’t go into Bushes any more, but if elected it wouldn’t be a case of nepotism.
Am I a bush bot for saying this viewpoint is fundamentally wrong? If the people vote for another Bush.. Clinton or whomever its in their power to do so. The author obviously forgets about the Adams and Roosevelt etc.
Look for the Dems to be all in favor - if a Bush were elected they’d have someone to blame stuff on for another 20 years...
I’m pretty sure the Kenyan piggy is in there for good. Remember 50% of the people living in this country are going to want their messiah to have a third term. It will be “historical” and those morons love making “history”.
There’s plenty of time to talk about this. We can hash out completely the history of the bank Grandpa Bush ran for the Nazis. During the primary battle in 2015. In excruciating detail. Every day. For a year.
In case the GOPe is so stupid they think they can cram another Bush down our throats without any fuss.
Now that you mention it, it WAS Bush’s fault.
